May I request ardent Mysoreans to please bring back the tradition of singing Kayove Shree Gowri in at least the Government schools, as my mother used to say that this was her school prayer. Its an excellent prayer and the Mysore tradition brings back the old glory. Also may I request the concerned to rebuild the Samadhi of Vidwan Basappa Shastrigalu which is in Eeranagere in Mysore, visible for any visitor.

Sometimes I wish we could go back to the Monarchy: The Maharajah and the palaces, the elegance and simpler times, when the rulers were truly responsible to the people. Chiram Abhivardhatham Yadu-kula Santana Shri: (Long live the progeny and prosperity of the Maharaja!)

Thanks a lot for uploading the video, was looking for the full Mysore State anthem, I had the audio of the first two paragraphs from the movie Mysoora Mallige. My Grandmother was very happy to hear the song after nearly 7 decades, she used to sing it every day while in school.

Many think that this was composed by Vid Dr Muttaiah Bhagawathar. But this was composed by Nataka Pitamaha Shree Basappa Shastrigalu. What a great composition it is. AIR used to broadcast earlier sung by Vid RK Srikantan. But AIR has also forgotten about this hymn which was school prayer during pre Independence and immediate Post Independence Mysore. I wish this is being considered for school prayer from now on again, a great nostalgia.

ORIGINAL TEXT OF THE ANTHEM -Contd
    Meaning:
Great Gowri, thou lotus eyed Goddess benign,
Pour forth on our Raja thy blessings divine.
Thou lady celestial, of the loveliest grace,
Upholding all being unbounded as space.
As Indra to the demons- Agasthya to the sea-
Thou makest all powers of evil to flee.
All good that men seek is by thy hand outpoured,
The consort co-equal of Sambhu, thy Lord.
O Chamundi, dark visaged lady divine,
Watch over Thy namesake of chamendra’s line.

    Contd:
No one can dare say Mummadi did not know kannada or was not aware of the phonetic difference between Odeyar/Wodeyar or Wadiyar ! Probably He was the first among the Mysore Kings to read & speak English and was the first sign in English, we do not know why he chose to do that way. His successors seems to have just followed on his footsteps.

  • @mgchandrakanth
    @mgchandrakanth 13 лет назад +3

God bless you immensely infinitely. You know why. I was longing to have the lyrics of Kayov Shree Gowri and my beloved mother used to sing the first stanza and perhaps forgot the rest. I hail from Mysore and I was curious to sing the remaining part of Kayov shree gowri karunalahari. I did not know that it was Shri Basappa shastry who composed this. His samadhi is near Eeranagere, which unfortunately is now not in proper shape.

I am aware of the sad state of Vid. Basavappa Shatry's samadhi. It exemplifies the apathy an ignorance of kannidaga's. Whereas there was a much hoopla about demolition of a House once lived by RK Narayan ! He lived and died in Chennai and was an English writer albeit his acknowledged status.

@Is this fella .... Use dignified language!
Tipu sultan was the son of Hyder Ali who joined the services of Mysore Kings/ Wodeyars as an ordinary foot soldier but rose to become the all powerful Prime Minister but in reality was the defacto Ruler by usurping the Kingdom.
Tipu was killed in the Fourth Mysore war and East India Company/ Britishers restored the Kingdom to Wodeyars.
The Video depicts select footage of the last Maharaja of Mysore, H.H. Jaya Chamaraja Wadiyar.

But honestly what an Individual 's name should be is his choice. There is nothing right or wrong about it. It is like saying Kambara should be Kumbara or Kumble it should be Kamble or Urs should be Arasu or Pandit should be Pundit .. One can argue till the cows come home. In addition, in recent times English spellings are also changed to suit Numerology beliefs. Sorry, i do not wish to carry a debate here . You are entitled to your views. Let us end here.

    Ganga / Kongu Dhesa:
Kongu name is originated from Kannada King of “Kongunivarma” of Ganga dynasty, Kongu Nadu of the Gangas dynasty land is owned to the Nation of Karnataka that is divided only by language
    Karnataka Land :
Kongu Nadu- Ganga Dynasty at South
Maal Nadu- Kadamba Dynasty at Middle
Tulu Nadu- Chalukya Dynasty at North
Gowders and Nayakers also live in Kongu Nadu, this Kongu Nadu does not belong to Tamilnadu and Kerala, That is full and full owned Karnataka because the King name of the Western Ganga dynasty, The Great King Name is Kongunivarma Madhava, So there called the region as Kongan Nadu or Kongu Nadu by tamil peoples
Kongu name is full belongs to the Western Ganga dynasty in Karnataka, Most theories have been based on Ganga and River Ganges. Somehow they should be related. Ganga Empire is called Gangavadi or Gangapadi. However, Gangas started their kingdom in Kolar and later Nandi Hills(Near Bangalore). Only later Talavanapura (Talakad) at Mysore was established as Capital. Inscriptions call them Konganis after their Kongani varma, though they call themselves Ganga vamsa in Karnataka
Western Ganga dynasty in Karnataka since 2nd-century, West of the Eastern Ghats .. East of the Western Ghats ... Up to Meghamalai at South Theni .. in tamilnadu is Kongu land owned entirely by Karnataka, Vokkaliga Gowders are Blood heirs (Ancestry) whose are live in all districts of Kongu Nadu
Gowder and gounder names are same to only Vokkaligars in case of speech at tamilnadu, Gounder name given to Tamil people to the identification of Ganga land, Tamil speak people migrated from Chola Nadu and Pallava Nadu to Ganga/Kongu Nadu
On 26 January 1950, it was formed as Madras State following linguistic lines. The state was finally renamed Tamil Nadu on 14 January 1969 by C.N. Annadurai, but kongu land full owned to Karnataka
Look at this Tamil video to know the Kalabhras of the Ganga dynasty: ruclips.net/video/VJvhHg6gryU/видео.html&authuser=0 The Tamil novel Sarithai mentions a Kalappira king named Achuthak Kalappalan. The book states that Ivan imprisoned the three hairdressers Chera, Chola and Pandiyar. Some of the songs about him are featured in the Yapparungala Karikai text and the Yapparungala Viruthi speech. Many historians told that the Kalapirars belonged to the Karunataka and conquered Tamil Nadu from Periyapurana
    Save Kannada..land ! Grow Kannada... !

Oh,okay, as I suspected. Thanks for clearing that up.
I'm very interested in all the princely states. So what's your opinion? Do you think Tipu took away all the shine and glory from the Mysore Royal Family? I certainly believe so. Very few people have heard of the Wadiyars, but Tipu Sultan is universally respected as one of the few kings to actively participate in the battlefield.

Tipu was a traitor is a traitor n will always remain a traitor british gave him space n time to do more harm for even normal Hindus to take over our lands hence even though they removed him he is more famous because of them just like bloody gandhi both n more were stooges of britishers whom we don’t ever respect I’m from Karnataka we despise that bastard tipu

Tippu for poletical reasons was projected.I have horrific stories of his attrocities. The village of Gargeswari near Mysore is fullof forced converts of his times. As late as in1960 I have elderly muslims in that village recounting his misdeeds.

In my first reply i have only stated the facts and there is nothing in the tone to discern any animosity.

Tipu was not a good strategist like his father Hyder Ali, and he was never a patriot...he was fighting a jihad against the british and trying to make himself the next emperor of india. he asked help from Nepoleon of France and Jaman Shah of afghanistan for that..and caused much attrocities to his hindu subjects....the Wodeyar rulers were kind to there people and Mysore was one of the civilized cities in India in their rule

Ha Ha ! Your ignorance is palpable. Where Hyder succeeded ( Mysore war i & II) , Tipu failed ( both the Mysore War III & IV). Whereas in Mysore War III he surrendered and los much of his territories, in Mysore War IV he died without fight and his body was found among a heap of fleeing populace.
Mysore was known as a Model Kingdom and even Britannica acknowledged. .

Very Funny argument ! Your own name when converted using Baraha results as : ಫನ್ದಿತರಧ್ಯಂಐಸುರು. Do you agree with this ?
For the record , People call me by various obvious and not so obvious names:
ರಾಜ, ಚಂದ್ರ, ರಾಜ ಚಂದ್ರ, ರಾಜಾ ಚಂದ್ರ, ರಾಜ ಚಂದ್ರಾ and some even call me as ಜಯಚಂದ್ರ, ರಾಮಚಂದ್ರ . Do i care ? No ! But if they call me by the later variations , to make them comfortable to call me as ರಾಜ !

But still I think they were globally not so influential as the Vijaynagara Emperors like Devaraya II, Krishnadevaraya, Ramaraya etc...Vijaynagar was once supposed to be as glorious as Rome by the portuguese traveller Pias. But itz my personal opinion and I am a bengali...I think my Kannad frnds know it better
