I'm just saying truth. :D As I said in one of your previous videos you inspired me to paint my own figurines and it was my first time doing sth like that so thank you. :)
love this game!! and after watching all of your videos for it i can no longer play with unpainted characters. using your tips and videos as guides i plan on painting all my minis for imperial assault. you do an amazing job. loved your AT-ST video and is probably the one i'm most excited to paint. keep the imperial assault guides coming.
+Nuno V Thanks so much Nuno! Yeh, I don't mind dry brushing fur that has a very fine texture (like the nexu) but not so much for more "chunky" fur like this :)
Dear Sorastro, How you manage to surpass yourself with every tutorial, defies me. Absolutely brilliant! Please keep up your excellent work! Sincere Kind Regards Johnny
Thank you for this tutorial mate, I've used most of the colours you have shown and I have used it on my 18" scream'in vinyl model kit. Cheers Sorastro.
Love your Mardji. Though forgot her trunk and the newspaper about David Bowie.. I've finished the Legion playlist (so far), almost finished the Marvel stuff and working on this now. It's interesting to see how your skills and style have developed over the years.
Hi Sorastro, the simplicity and formula way you break your paint jobs down make it very easy to follow along. I notice that you seem to thin your paints right down and paint several very thin layers. Approximately what ratio of paint to thinner do you use, and what do you use for your thinner for these paints (given that you do in fact thin them down)? Have you tried the citadel air paints through an airbrush?
Thank you Tim! I thin my paints with water and the ratio can vary, but typically around 30-50% water? I might go thicker for base colors and thinner for layering highlights. I have not tried the Citadel air paints yet :)
Thanks for your reply Sorastro. I will try thinning my paints now. Keep the great work coming. I love getting notifications when your next one is ready.
Hi! Hmm we're talking about the incredible Phoenix monster? I wouldn't like to advise on that at the moment until I've tested some ideas out.. can't wait to paint mine! :)
Indeed, that very one. I found the green stuff tricks particularly helpful as well, it's application is often overlooked. Till next time, thanks for the stellar work and have a good one.
Sorastro's Painting great thanks! I've got two Banthas on deck and ready to go, just waiting for the green stuff to dry now. Don't have any Cadian Fleshtone so using Kislev Flesh will save me a trip to the store 👍🏻
superb as normal, one thing though your colors are going on a lot stronger than mine. Do you still water down or are you painting direct as seems to take me 3x cover to get to what you have on 1st application or is this just the editing?
Thank you Szabolcs! I have actually just finished the next Descent episode (Avric) which is now available to patrons and will be going public next weekend. Also I will be producing monthly content for Descent from now on :)
I use Vallejo paint, but I have a hard to find a replacement for the Screaming Skull. Does anyone know a good Vallejo color that comes close to this color?
Sorasto these videos have been a life saver. Are you going to be doing more of this series? Especially with some cool minis coming out soon (Rancor anyone)?
Thank you Matt! I absolutely will be doing more - in fact the next episode is finished and going public on Thursday (it's currently in its patron early-access period). I am determined to paint every single IA mini FFG produce :)
It's nice that recently you have been uploading weekly! I was wondering what instruments do you play, and do you record any of your playing for the background music?
Thank you! Yes - now that I've quit my previous job the weekly videos are here for good :) I play the piano/keyboard, and a little guitar. When I compose the music I play most of the parts myself at a MIDI keyboard :)
Hi Vincenzo! That's a two-part modelling putty called "Green Stuff" that's often used for sculpting or filling gaps: www.greenstuffworld.com/en/green-stuff/5-green-stuff-putty-tape-36-inches.html?search_query=Green+stuff&results=471 (You're English is fine by the way :) )
Your videos are amazing. I am working my way through the Imperial Assault tutorials. However, I just received my KS pledge for The Others and wonder whether you might be covering a model or two from that series? In particular, I am interested in learning how one might use washes in stages to build color and depth, as I have heard some are doing with characters from The Others. Anyway, about time I head over to Patrion and add myself as a contributor to these videos before asking any "Other" favors :)
+Greg Nielsen Lol thanks Greg! Yes - I am in fact planning to cover one or two figures from The Others very soon (most likely the Pride Avatar next month) :)
The Pride Avatar would be amazing! I am paralyzed whenever I start to imagine how I might go about painting that thing. I'm too new to the hobby to easily visualize such a feat.
Hi Cpt! Hmm for a sandy dune I'd be tempted to lay down a very smooth paste - like Vallejo's water effect - and paint it a sandy colour with smooth transitions between the shadows and highlights. I'd have to try it out first though! :)
Sorastro's Painting No prob! They made a bunch of new ones, including suped up versions of the originals. so Agrellan Earth now has a better version that makes bigger cracks called Agrellan Badlands
Annoying that I found this video after painting the Bantha + Rider as my first mini for Imperial Assault, was quite happy with the result nevertheless. Will check out the other videos before paining any more minis.
Very nice job! Can you paint Games workshop miniatures too (like Warhammer Quest Silvertower for example : boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/197572/warhammer-quest-silver-tower)? Thanks for your videos!
+MrRouggy Thank you! I don't generally do GW figures these days (and lots of people cover them already) but there is one coming soon that I might produce one or two videos for... :)
"and lots of people cover them already" : yes, but you are the best! ;) ; "there is one coming soon that I might produce one or two videos for" : oh!!! which one????
Just amazing. I love your professionalism. Best painting guides ever
+TheGGrzebyk That's very kind - thank you!
I'm just saying truth. :D As I said in one of your previous videos you inspired me to paint my own figurines and it was my first time doing sth like that so thank you. :)
Excellent tutorial, good narration, camera handling and even the music is match to the actual painting style!
+Gábor Koncz Thank you very much Gábor! It's nice to feel my efforts are appreciated :)
love this game!! and after watching all of your videos for it i can no longer play with unpainted characters. using your tips and videos as guides i plan on painting all my minis for imperial assault. you do an amazing job. loved your AT-ST video and is probably the one i'm most excited to paint. keep the imperial assault guides coming.
Thanks a lot Matt! I'll keep 'em coming :)
2 things i would like to say; dude you are a genious, and its the first time i see anyone painting fur without drybrushing. Really nice job!
Thank you as always Johnny! I'm happy you enjoyed the video :)
Thank you for this tutorial mate, I've used most of the colours you have shown and I have used it on my 18" scream'in vinyl model kit.
Cheers Sorastro.
Excellent, buddy! Thanks for the kind comment 😀
The highlighting work on the fur is amazing!
+James Sexton Thank you James! I like to keep things simple but effective :)
Thoroughly enjoyable! And a beautiful final product!
+Heroes & Bosses Thanks again sir!
Just when I thought you couldn't out do yourself...the bases of these. Holy crap, man! You are incredible!
+Pickle BerCrew Studios Thank you sir! I have to pass the credit for the bases to GW for creating such a cool product though :)
I agree with Trondster, this can be used as a former Fur painting tutorial. Amazing. Keep going on.
Thanks a lot DeinoK!
Another impressive video, as Always!the thechnique you used for the fur is incredible!
+Scannatovivo Thank you! I like to keep things as simple as I can :)
Another great guide, amazing work. Now I got to stop painting and start playing the game for a change..
Thank you! I hear you too :)
I like how you describe the technique for painting the fur - will come in quite useful for painting various other fur-clad monsters. :)
+Trondster Thanks a lot Trondster!
one of your best so far. help me alot in my planing
Thanks a lot Zwara! I'm glad you found it helpful :)
Another big video from a great painter.High qualità job.
Many thanks Fabio! :)
Once again, great guide. I really appreciate your vids.
Thank you! :)
Stunning!
+Greg S Thanks Greg!
Another great video! The techniques for fur should come in especially useful on a project I have coming up.
+Michael D'Auben Thanks Michael! I'm glad you found the fur approach useful :)
nicely done as usual
Thanks Apoc! :)
Mindblowing how great this is, looks like I have to go to the store for some additional paint purchases... :-)
+Göran Bäckström Thanks Göran! :)
Love your Mardji. Though forgot her trunk and the newspaper about David Bowie..
I've finished the Legion playlist (so far), almost finished the Marvel stuff and working on this now. It's interesting to see how your skills and style have developed over the years.
another great vid! thx for sharing!
Thank you sir!
Brilliant work
Thanks mate! Glad you like it :)
like a bantha
Hello dude, nice guide again. they looked better than mine ;-) The bases look expecially nice
Thanks Mike! Yeh the bases are a lot of fun (and very easy!) to do so well worth it :)
Your Bantha look very nice! :)
Thanks a lot Monte! Glad you like it :)
You left out Zamesi desert in the list of citadel paints used in the description. I didn’t know I needed it until now
I apologize :)
Beautiful !!!! :D
Thank you! :)

Thanks Tim! I'll keep 'em coming :)
Thank you, the fur techniques will be especially useful for my Kingdom Death miniatures.
Would you use the same techniques for feathers?
Would Kislev Flesh work alright in place of Cadian Fleshtone?
Hi! For the mouth area? It'll be OK.. if it seems a little light you could always mix in a little Bugman's Glow or something :)
Sorastro's Painting great thanks! I've got two Banthas on deck and ready to go, just waiting for the green stuff to dry now. Don't have any Cadian Fleshtone so using Kislev Flesh will save me a trip to the store 👍🏻
+LadyCopernicus Awesome :)
Your music is as great as your miniature painting.
Many thanks Grim Knight!
Hello, Thanks for this new video ! excellent !!! Question : have you advice for glue and primer ? mark ? type ? cost ? A big THANKS ;-))))
I might sound dumb but how does the bases look cracked tonyou paint the paint on thick and when it dries it does that??
Hi Mark! Yes, it's a special paint that's designed to crack like that. It's pretty cool huh? :)
Sorastro's Painting yeah what’s it called and what make is it.....keep up the good work your painting is awesome
Cheers Mark! It's called "Agrellan Earth" by Citadel (Games Workshop) :)
superb as normal, one thing though your colors are going on a lot stronger than mine. Do you still water down or are you painting direct as seems to take me 3x cover to get to what you have on 1st application or is this just the editing?
+Richard Hill Thank you Richard! I think that's mostly the editing honest; I typically have to apply 2-3 thin layers to get good coverage :)
Nice job as always!!! When are you painting more Descent miniatures?
Thank you Szabolcs! I have actually just finished the next Descent episode (Avric) which is now available to patrons and will be going public next weekend. Also I will be producing monthly content for Descent from now on :)
I became your patron :) to see Avric faster :) I am waiting your next descent video :)
+Szabolcs Szasz Many thanks Szabolcs! :)
I use Vallejo paint, but I have a hard to find a replacement for the Screaming Skull. Does anyone know a good Vallejo color that comes close to this color?
+TheKillingBean Hi! Vallejo's "Bone White" (VGC) is pretty close :)
what tools do you use to file down the factory edges. im making a hobby lobby trip soon
Hi Nick! I usually just use a craft knife, and sometimes some modelling files :)
Sweet! I'll throw a buck your way for that.
+Matt Fúster Thanks a lot Matt; much appreciated :)
Fantastyc!!!
+Javier Gomez Thanks Javier! :)
awesome
Thank you Baubaz!

Hi firend please watch my videos in the national of imperial assalut Spain
i m a new to figurines painting. What is it in your vidéo , that you use at 2'00 ? sorry for my english.
Hi Vincenzo! That's a two-part modelling putty called "Green Stuff" that's often used for sculpting or filling gaps: www.greenstuffworld.com/en/green-stuff/5-green-stuff-putty-tape-36-inches.html?search_query=Green+stuff&results=471 (You're English is fine by the way :) )
Sorastro's Painting thank you very much.
Your vidéos are awesome.
Thanks Vincenzo! :)

If you were going to do a sandy base instead, to have your bantha marching on a dune instead of a cracked plain, how would you do that?
Hi Cpt! Hmm for a sandy dune I'd be tempted to lay down a very smooth paste - like Vallejo's water effect - and paint it a sandy colour with smooth transitions between the shadows and highlights. I'd have to try it out first though! :)
Sounds like that might be a bit hard, I might just go with a cracked base, thanks :)
Citadel has some new base style paints, I believe Armageddon Dunes would be something you'd be looking for.
Steven Ketcheson Oo I hadn't heard about them - thanks Steve! Must investigate.. :)
Sorastro's Painting No prob! They made a bunch of new ones, including suped up versions of the originals. so Agrellan Earth now has a better version that makes bigger cracks called Agrellan Badlands
Fucking awesome!! Will you do a series for the game massive darkness?! Please!!!!
Thanks Pedro! I'll likely cover at least some of the minis but there may be too many for me to produce an entire series covering them all :)
painting black plague zombies please
+William Anglehart More zombies? You mean the expansion zombies like the Deadeye Walkers?
Annoying that I found this video after painting the Bantha + Rider as my first mini for Imperial Assault, was quite happy with the result nevertheless. Will check out the other videos before paining any more minis.

Where's this things eyes?
Lol good question.. maybe they navigate with sonar instead like bats!? :)
