Helpful insights, thank you. Grid management is complicated. Hopefully Ecuador can learn from past mistakes and adopt best practices. They can quickly diversify generation capacity by allowing private companies and municipalities to build capacity and sell to the grid. Fingers crossed.
🤗 Thanks a lot for yet more news from Ecuador and you. Your hat for a 5er is almost similar to the one I remember my grand father was wearing and, a few years ago I found - and bought - a similar one in a second-hand shop here in Dublin. It's now on my wall and, every time I look at it, I think about when my grand father was alive and, he was playing his violin fo me, wearing his hat hence, many lovely memories tied to this hat 😊 Thanks a lot for sharing the news 👍 and, have a good week!
@@KrisandMike oh, Co. Clare is Lovely! Have you ever been to Ireland? My grand father was Danish... I loved him to bits but, unfortunately he passed when I was only 12..Thankfully he gave me some good memories ♥️
Hey great info and insight for everyone! Im in quito currently and will be spending the blackout here. Soon, I'll be heading to spend a month in Manta (october) and was wondering if you'll still be in ecuador to grab a coffee and chat. I drove down from Minnesota so wherever you are i can make it over pretty quickly 🏍! Let me know! Keep up the good content
My latest electric bill in Cuenca was 31 simoleons for consuming 160 KWh. If I can pocket a cool C-note over a three month period... I'M GOIN' TA VEGAS BABY!
We are in 10 hours a day of blackouts - split between two five hours. People are beginning to talk about protests.I don’t know what that will solve but these blackouts are, as you point out, partially result of political corruption. We are still required to pay our entire electric bills even though we were promised to be reimbursed for the last blackouts, which we were not. I have lived here a year and have experienced blackouts for a large part of my life here. People who have been here a long time may be able to handle it better but for me, it’s been trying but I am trying.
Hi Mike, another informative video. Have you considered getting solar? Is that a practical solution to help deal with some of the shortages you might experience?
Yes solar would work well here. We don't have a huge need here. We are retired and it's not really a big deal if electricity is out in the tropics. If it becomes a major inconvenience we definitely will be going in that direction.
I have always liked your hat and was thinking I would like to have such a hat if I were in a hat wearing place. There are not many people wearing hats here unless you get away from the city so, I only wear a baseball cap when I'm going to be in the sun for a while. I like your hat even more since I hear it's a $5 hat. I looked at my electric bills and most months I'm under 180 kwh.
We reportedly entered a Grand Solar Minimum in 2022. This somewhat rare solar cycle is projected to last until 2053. Who knows? As I recall, Grand Solar Minimums are said to come around about every 400 years. I have heard some "experts" allege that we should expect abnormal weather extremes. I doubt there are many weather records from the seventeenth century for the researchers to draw upon. Perhaps this would help to explain the lack of rain in Ecuador and the brutal winter weather we experienced in Texas a few years ago?
What is the population outflow situation from Ecuador to the US? I'm curious given all the talk about the southern border and "gangs". Just wondering if people there are seeking opportunity elsewhere? Thanks for the update and best wishes to you both! Laurie
Yes. With the economy bad here some people in poverty look for opportunities elsewhere. Unfortunately many pay human traffickers who mislead them about opportunities in the USA to get their little money they have. In reality they are almost always better off here.
Thank you for all the valuable and truthful news from Ecuador!
Thanks very much 🙏
Mike, thanks for the update news.
👍
Liking the hat! 🤗
Lol. I didn't know you watched this. I guess you are preparing for your trip down. 🙏
Wet season is a few weeks away. Let’s hope we see the rains return.
👍
Just want to thank you, once again. I really appreciate the information that you share with us.
Thanks 👍

Exactly, well said.
Love your news program. You help me trick people into thinking I'm smart. When I repeat something you reported. haha. Gracias
LMAO. Thanks for the laugh tonight. Take care.
Thank you once again Mike. The hats fine. Lol

What great memories. My father's side of the family is Irish from County Claire

Yes I have been once to Ireland many years ago. Beautiful country.
Thank you from Cuenca.

Yes it's been hard and frustrating at times.

You should get 3 months free!! Don't spend it on hats tho lol.

It's becoming safe to say that weather extremes are becoming more frequent and certainly less predictable.
You got it!

@@KrisandMike I hope things improve there soon. It's terrible the way economic migrants are treated and exploited. Appreciate your videos. 💚
The reservoir doesn't seem to be big enough. Delay between full and low level is too short.
Perhaps. More blackouts coming next week.
how many Kilawatt hrs do you use? Your map,,,is that influenced by El Nino,,, la Nina? Is there a Professor Univ. of Cuenca with an opinion ?
We use a ton of electricity. In the high season we have air conditioning on and the swimming pool pumps and filters
Ecuador and California have a lot in common.
