I've went off 40k for exactly this reason, the specialist design studio games (MESBG, Blood Bowl, HH and hopefully old world have their rule sets stick around for years and it feels way better to buy those books and have them not he out of date son quickly
I spend massive amounts of time out of "normal" life conditions, places where phones don't work etc, so not needing to be able to keep a phone charged just to play a tabletop game is nice for me, I enjoy having the books, and the cards, I definitely think some option ought to exist to allow people to purchase digital copies, but I personally enjoy having physical media still, probably a relic of my having grown up in the late 80's and 90's
hi (: as a non-native speaker who has a really hard time following the Kierans I assumed it is like "B-grade" Tyranids talking about GSC. They are the Nids your mom tells you you have at home. Hopefully you don't have GSC at home, but well..
It is to reference to that weirdly, it’s an education certificate that wasn’t taken seriously for being easy. So people used it to describe things that are mediocre, cheap copies…
It's a slang term but is based on a garbage worthy diploma that people get when they can't get into university. It's basically like budget level or a crap copy of something. Stormcast is just b tech space marines for example.
My GSC is a funny one. I won two GW vouchers that together were 55€, then I bought one of the old combat patrols, the acolyte sprues had some weird streaks on them and I messaged GW about it and they sent me ANOTHER COMBAT PATROL instead of the acolyte box because i guess it was easier to copy and paste my order. So realistically, i got 2 combat patrols for 70€ which is 70€/64 minis =1.10€. Two rockgrinders for 2.20€ is bonkers. I also bought the boarding patrol mainly for the characters and because it was a good combo of expensive squads aswell. So i got a full army of GSC for 170€. I still want the other vehicles and characters but tue characters are kitbasheable
I play GSC, I bought 2 old combat patrols and the biosantic broodsurge box as well as boarding party I snagged a bit back. If it wasn't for these box sets it would not have happened!
Great video! One point to note, pretty sure under one specific detachment you can bring astra militarum units which might make the army a bit more interesting!
With the explosives/reinforcement changes, they are about the only reliable anti-tank in the codex, a GSC list not running at least 2 of these is really asking for trouble
Currently building a GSC army, I’m lucky as I was able to buy two of the old combat patrols… once I’m done I’ll pick up 2 of the new combat patrol (I think it’s pretty good) Bonus - GSC are hella easy to kitbash characters and the Rockgrinder/truck kit comes with 3 bonus dudes That’s allowed me to kitbash a primus / nexos / sabatour and a few more What’s great is there’s still some of the army boxes floating around Hoping to get 2000 points for under €500 2 x old combat patrol €112.5 (flg discount included) €112.5 New combat patrol €117 Codex army box €150 It’s so sad that the old combat patrol is dead… it just kills new interest in the army
Have fun with Sisters, Kierans, because in AUS there's a case for them to be the most expensive army, possibly more than even AdMech. The pricing for their vehicles and characters in particular are just insane Regular Rhino: $64 AUD Sisters Rhino: $110 AUD The Castigator is below 1ppd in AUS ($155 for 150 points) whereas the Dunecrawler is sitting far more comfortably at 1.28ppd. Even the battleline both remain competitive (for worst army pricing) at more or less a point a dollar. Looking at their characters, a Dominus and Manipulus are both worth more points (75 and 65) and cost equal to most sisters generic characters, and those that cost less aren't by a huge margin in dollars, but definitely are in points. It's actually insane. Edit: Obviously this is all at GW webstore prices, but even still, you're still coughing up an enormous amount of money third-party for Sisters
I’ve got an old combat patrol, the recent battleforce box (so three rockgrinders/trucks), the recent kill team termination box which includes the brood coven, all the characters and I’ve kitbashed 30 of my neophytes into medical, security and other personnel to break up painting so bloody many neophytes. I also bought the new codex and cards because why not? 😂
Great video lads. Tried to think up a funny joke, all I could get was Levi's Larcenists. If there's ever an army I'll never buy, I think we've found it.
1 AUD = .67 USD and .52 GBP. Median income in Australia is 71,500 AUD. Median income in the United States is 74,580 USD. Median income in the UK is 35,000 GBP.
My GSC journey was two old combat patrols, a Boarding Patrol I found, the Kill Team Brood Brothers, Ten Genestealers from my Tyranids army and the Horus Heresy Solar Auxilia box(which I got to use the troops for Traitor Guard for my Alpha Legion and the tanks/heavy sentinel for my GSC) And Im only barely above 2k points, crazy how expensive this army is but theyre so cool.
so I just did a conversion.. 100 AUS is 51 Sterling, 61Euro, 90 Canadian (where I am) and 66 USD.. thats crazy! my Space Marine codex cost me 55 Canadian..
As probably one of only a few kiwis watching, I was able to afford it before i has twins.... Having a full time job, no mortgage, no kids = good spending money. Secondly, and also slightly embarrassed, i have 4.5 armies. Main one being daemons and i have a good amount of them. Still need to get a few more models to round out everything. I've bought most of my models second hand of troll trader. Love that site. Still check it regularly But our biggest problem is that there are no stores that sell models at 20% discount WITHIN NZ. If we want that we have to order from Aus.
@@the_kieran_show 1. Chaos daemons 2. Custodes 3. Chaos Knights 4. Chaos space marines 5. World eaters (this is the half) Fair more unpainted and unassembled than painted.
1:40 but those prices in Australia you mentioned are AUD and not USD. So its not "100 Dollars (implied US) for a Codex" it is around 66 USD for an Australian Codex. A Australian Codex with 66 USD in according to the Big Mac Index (jan 24) approx 13 Big Macs. A Codex in the US is 60 USD which is roughly 10.5 Big Macs. Don't get me wrong, 100 AUD (13 Big Macs), 60 USD (10.5 Big Macs), 47.50 EUR (8.8 Big Macs) or 37 GBP (8.4 Big Macs) is WAY too much for a GW Codex. But I think you shouldn't address this issue without explaining those prices are AUD which is only 2/3 of the USD... ;)
Broodcoven was just part of the old CP wasn't it? Codex prices are outrageous, CP at 100 when the start collecting (very much identical now) used to be 50 is also mental..
GSC first appeared in the board game Deathwatch Overkill - which had the Broodcoven all on one sprue (and a ton of monopose kits - they were the backbone of my army!).
If you're in NZ, buy from GapGames (it's AU). It was significantly cheaper to buy from there even with shipping, and shipping from AU to NZ isn't that bad time-wise. Still expensive, but much better than buying from mightyape or GW's store.
Yea, literally never buying a codex ever again. Buy it for a stupid price and it's out of date within a few months, if it's even still in date when you receive it. I'll pirate them unashamedly until they get better.
Printed Codexes are really struggling to be a value proposition now, especially with how quickly they go out of date.
It's a tough one isn't it!

are the Black Library Codex .pdfs cheaper than the hardcover books?

7:46 Obviously they should have clothes, they are the Jean-stealers after all
Ah yes of course 😂
You boys have to explain this British slang. What's a B-Tech? Google says it's a Bachelors of Technology degree, I somehow doubt that's what you mean.
Ahahaha no. It’s akin to budget. So budget tyranids, wannabe tyranids, b tier Tyranid. Pick one that suits the Midwest 😂
lol, i was also curious what it meant

Yeah that’s some great savings!
”Would you ever run more than 1x Ridge Runner”
This is the point where my four armed ass stopped to video.
But the rock grinders are so much cooler!!
Great video! One point to note, pretty sure under one specific detachment you can bring astra militarum units which might make the army a bit more interesting!
Aaaah that's how you access them!
Ridgerunners are unarguably the best unit in our codex. A list could easily have 6 of them
Sounds proper Rocket League!
With the explosives/reinforcement changes, they are about the only reliable anti-tank in the codex, a GSC list not running at least 2 of these is really asking for trouble
Currently building a GSC army, I’m lucky as I was able to buy two of the old combat patrols… once I’m done I’ll pick up 2 of the new combat patrol (I think it’s pretty good)
Bonus - GSC are hella easy to kitbash characters and the Rockgrinder/truck kit comes with 3 bonus dudes
That’s allowed me to kitbash a primus / nexos / sabatour and a few more
What’s great is there’s still some of the army boxes floating around
Hoping to get 2000 points for under €500
2 x old combat patrol
€112.5 (flg discount included)
€112.5
New combat patrol
€117
Codex army box
€150
It’s so sad that the old combat patrol is dead… it just kills new interest in the army
Oh that's a great point! Tbh getting any 2k point army sub 500 is crazy now. AoS is looking more appealing by the day 😂
I've been thinking of adding to my Gene Simmons Cult for some time now....
That’s an entirely different (if not stranger) cult 😂
Love the video lads! Never thought GSC would have so many vehicles 😂
It’s their best thing!
Have fun with Sisters, Kierans, because in AUS there's a case for them to be the most expensive army, possibly more than even AdMech. The pricing for their vehicles and characters in particular are just insane

Yeah spoilers, the sisters one is mind blowing
I feel like they need some up armed large land crawlers.
Or just let them run more of the Tyranid units natively!
Fun fact: The Nexos hologram is Warhammer World
Nooo really?!

That’s quite a haul!!
I model my GSC as Lost and the Damned, so cost is ridiculous but so much fun to model.
That sounds so wild!

We love you!

Yeah the conversion is mental in GW land
I would only ever buy GSC accidently as part of boxsets.
Like the 1st edition kill team box that everyone got 😂
They’re so cool, but so many models and so little time!
Sounds like us....

I love this series but I already have about 9000 points of GSC so I watch this for the lols
9000?! Wow
They can take 25% Guard units right? so a Russ wouldn’t be out of the question.
That would be wicked! GSC Baneblade when
Only in one detachment
Oof! This is a wallet killer.
Side bar, how can I join your Discord?
You can either join as a RUclips member, or find it in one of our livestreams :D
I’ve managed to get 1500 points together for £80 so far by picking up bargains here and there
Thats some good shopping!
@@the_kieran_show yeah I got very lucky with a few bits

But sun.
But that is where all the weird Tyranid-adjacent awful creatures on earth live!
£630 converts to $1220 Australian but they charge players $1782.50... 🤦♂
I guess if Aussies keep paying these prices though, nothing will change.
Yeah they are clearly using a different conversion table 😂
whats the big brain guy?
Its the Benefictus, it was their new codex release but is still box locked to the battleforce!
$0 cause you're supposed to steal them duh~
