  • Enjoy.
    The ROKMC is the 2nd largest marine corps in the world with over 27,000 soldiers. It is the most formidable branch of the ROK military, with an undefeated record and a 1:25 kill ratio during the Vietnam War. Amongst the South Korean military personnel, only the marines are priviledged to wear a red badge, which identifies them as part of the ROKMC.

    Back in the 80's, I was going through basic training at Fort Sill Oklahoma, attached to our platoon was a R.O.K. He didn't speak much English, but he was a hell of a soldier! At hand to hand he was almost impossible to beat. I respected him, and ALL R.O.K. I will never forget him. A/2ND/80TH FA.

    Only reason why other nations should be scared of having war against the ROK is the fact that almost every man who are legally adults knows how to shoot guns. Funny how no civilian is aloud to have guns yet everyone knows how to use them.

    • @jeongaugustine3209
      @jeongaugustine3209 10 лет назад +2

      That is certainly not the only reason that other countries shouldn't attack ROK, but what you said is true and majority of the male adults know how to shoot a gun. If you went into the streets and told people to raise their hand if they can drive a tank, shoot artillery, or operate a machine gun, you will find at least one person who can do one of these.

    I live in a korean dorm in the US. The chef was a former ROK marine. Guy's ripped and his reflexes are ridiculous. caught 4 flies in one swipe and kept on singing Trot (an old korean music genre). He's humble but when I told him I wanted to join teh RMC he laughed and said (in korean) "good luck and don't die"
    guy's real humble. It's strange how my mother's side and my father's side of the family never talk that much about the military. My uncles served in the FFL, ROKMC and the ROK infantry

    @histatemike Yes, my grandpa was an ARVN. And he said when fighting again ROK, North Viet have to called out the NVA special force which was trained in Soviet.
    The famous trick ROK used during VN war was: for example: a group of 20 ROK soldiers enter a village, one piggyback another so that they look like a group of 10 soldiers only, after that 10 soldiers get out of the village, left another 10 inside. NVA though that the village was clear, enter it and met the ambush.

    Difference between Korean Army VS others are Mental preparation. You don't go to bar like here after training or have free times at night. These soldiers always stay with group in cell and do their trainings and preparation 24/7. They do get some sort of days off (visit home) but it is all in camp. Mental, Preparation and Obedience are best in the world.

    @JebusLee I believe the number of US troops in S.Korea is actually 28,500 last time I heard anyway. Plus, if you add in the number of reserves the ROK has, then we're talking about almost 4 million men in total. That's more than enough to halt any North Korean assault. Not to mention the majority of North Korea's troops are malnourished and have almost no serious logistics support.

    @FINwarfare Valid point but the U.S. is fighting a much smaller force (25000) than the Solviets so there are less targets to shoot at. The Solviets had to deal ,with 1,200,000 fighters. So when you do the math both countries had to fight in the same conditions and equall odds.

    @olivetreeization The NK has the ability to reach Alaska and Hawaii, delivering a 200k payload, relatively small,but not the continental US (predicted in 10 years). You are correct when you state that ICBM's and space bound rockets are different, and that NK doesn't allow international military observation, but a rocket is a little hard to miss. I'm not saying they don't have nuclear arms, because they clearly do, just not the capability to severly threaten the US.
