    I understand what you're saying Andrés. You're still young unlike myself who was brought to the states when I was 3 years old. Born in Cali, Colombia. I'm 63 now and I can't wait to leave the USA. Don't get me wrong, I love the US but have grown tired of the lifestyle in this country.
    I'm tired of the negativity and the sense of rage so many people harbor against one another. Half the country seems to hate the other half. Sad really.
    The thing is that Colombia's violent history ain't something to be proud of either.
    I'm definitely bi-cultural. I plan to live 4 or 5 months in Colombia and the rest of the year in the USA.
    My tip to you brother is to invest in Colombia. So many things still need to get done there and you're at the right age and the right time to take advantage of that situation.
    Good content brother. Best of luck!

      Hey, man I appreciate this comment. It makes sense that we Colombians raised in the USA want to go back to reconnect with our roots and live among our people. Life in Colombia is slower, more simple, and less robotic than in the USA. However, Colombia has deep issues like corruption, political violence, and crime that sometimes make life in the country difficult. Despite that I still prefer to live there than in the states. I'm glad you are going to spend more time in 🇨🇴. Its a blessing to have the opportunity to live in both places. And I definitely have plans to invest in Colombia! Cheers.

    As an American who has traveled to Colombia many times and has a bunch of Colombian friends and as someone who also has strong connections to NYC, I really appreciated this video and your perspective! A refreshing change from so many digital nomad types making youtube videos after they've just moved to Poblado. I think you've captured something here. Would enjoy a tour of Jackson Heights from your perspective.

    I have a lot of the same experiences growing up as you. I was born in the U.S. (Miami) but spent nearly every summer going to Colombia in the 70s as a kid, for months at a time. My brother and I felt heartbroken after every summer as headed back home. Colombia has a way of keeping your heart. You can't describe the warmth of the people, the culture, and the beauty of Colombia until you spend significant time there.
    Decades later my brother have made our careers in the U.S. and are very grateful for having had the opportunities that America provides. But the mind craves peace and the love of family. So, we planning retirement there with our families. If you haven't been to "el eje cafetero" you should go. It has the infrastructure of Medelling (or close) but better prices. Thank you for the vid. It's truly nice to see the younger generations have the same appreciation that us older Paisa's have.

      Yeah man exactly. As a kid, returning to the USA after visiting family in Colombia was so depressing. You definitely have to spend time there to understand how magical of a place it is. I'm glad ur planning on retiring in 🇨🇴 being around family in the motherland is the best feeling. I've been through eje cafetero, spent time in Pereira and Sta Rosa de Cabal, and visited Manizales once, but I would like to return to spend more time there. Cheers!

    You're obviously THE best Colombia RUclipsr. I wish you could put out so many more videos, but I understand it's costly. I'm born and raised in Brooklyn and have just been to Bogota & Medellin for a few months. Everything you said is so accurate. When you're walking around, especially in Medellin, it just feels so safe, but it's definitely way more dangerous than people want to admit, especially if you're an obvious looking gringo. A lot of the Colombia RUclipsrs have commented on how the food isn't that good in Colombia compared to the US, but that is just a lie. You can't compare. The quality of almost everything you eat there is incomparable to the GMO, expensive food here in the USA.

    Great video! ... I cannot speak for New York but I definitely can speak for Colombia, specifically Antioquia as I've lived here the last two years as we await my Paisa wife's Canadian visa. You covered a lot and you did a great job!
    I've never been to New York but where I'm from in Canada being a multicultural country you can find any kind of ethnic food and I love Middle Eastern food as well. Paisa food is great but it's like listening to the same music day in day out, not much variety and it gets old quick.
    In the end for me it's the safety issue of living in Colombia , it is very wearing in the long run. I don't agree with a lot of the societal norms nowadays in Canada with all the WOKE ridiculousness that is being forced upon us by our dictator like government. We don't have the same rights in Canada that you have in the United States there's much more censorship, and very, VERY limited freedom of speech and if you say the wrong thing you can easily lose your job. However as I said, for me it's all about safety. Where I am from in Canada I can literally walk down any street day or night with my phone out and I never ever have to think about somebody robbing me there's literally zero chance of it.. Never have to think in a high state of alertness when I'm leaving my house where I'm going watching my back, unlike Colombia my head is continually on a swivel it's just part of life here as you know. But as they say it is what it is.
    We'll see how things go back in Canada. It will be very very different living with my wife there, and I'm sure there's things I will miss about Colombia too, as you mentioned people and the value of family here, value of relationships is something that just is not part of our culture in Canada.
    Vale, ya basta con mi rollo .. jejejejej.. Look forward to seeing your next video! .. Cuídate parce! ;))

      Appreciate the comment. I don't know much about Canadian politics, but it's wild that Trudeau has been the PM for ten years now 🤦‍♂. I've heard some real bad things about that guy. That's what I was trying to get at in this video; we gotta analyze the pros and cons of life in Colombia and determine if it's the right place for us to live; the only way to do that is to spend a good amount of time there. Gracias parcero, por compartir su experiencia.

    I spent half my life in Colombia, and I travel back-and-forth three times a year. The food in the United States is 1000% better! The beef and seafood are way better, and not to mention Italian, Chinese, Indian, Greek, Arabic, and any other cuisine are so much better. Colombian cuisine has the same basic taste and lacks variety. The capital, Bogota, has made great strides in the culinary field, but it's still way behind the United States, and it's partly to do with the fact that we have immigrants from all over the world who have brought their respective cuisines and customs.

    • @andresonearth
      @andresonearth  9 месяцев назад +7

      Wassup brotha. Not arguing that in the USA, you can get a variety of delicious cuisine from all over the world. I wasn't referring to eating out, though. I was referring to the quality of ingredients, like the abundance of tropical fruits & especially the meat. In Colombia, animals are raised in healthier conditions, and you will often see cattle grazing on open pastures throughout the countryside. In the USA, factory farming is the norm, which produces unhealthy, low-quality meat that most people buy prepackaged from the supermarket. If you want "grass-fed," it will cost you significantly more. In Colombia, butchers are the most popular way to get meat, dairy & eggs, and they receive fresh products throughout the week; in the USA, the butcher is nearly extinct. In Colombia, the meat tastes different; it has a more natural flavor. Whenever I eat sancocho de gallina or mondongo at a Colombian spot in the States, it doesn't taste the same at all.

    • @retromoto9456
      @retromoto9456 9 месяцев назад +1

      @andresonearth
      Well, I think it's a mixed bag. No doubt, the fruits and vegetables are much better because one can get them fresh and are abundant in Colombia, given the variety of micro-climates. Regarding the beef,
      American beef is much more likely to have been brought up on a soybean/grain diet. This means more marbling, more juices and more flavor. The finish, a buttery, rich flavor and the tenderest of cuts. In contrast, Colombian grass fed Brahman cattle, which are hardy cows that survive well in hot tropical conditions, but their meat tends to be a lot tougher. I guess it's a matter of preference, but the next time you walk into a "CARULLA" supermarket, go to the meat section and you will notice an array of pre-packaged imported USA cuts to include tomahawk steaks, sirloin and filet mignon. Demand for USA beef in Colombia has grown exponentially amongst the upper echelon of Colombian society. Seafood in Colombia is mediocre and difficult to get clams, mussels, scallops and other maritime delicacies. One can find the basic salmon, red snapper and shrimp, which can be farm raised, but it is tough to get the wild caught maritime seafood from the northern Atlantic.
      With respect to Sanconcho! We've traveled the four corners of Colombia to see who makes the best sancocho. I thought the best sancocho would be in colder weather places like Boyaca, but to my surprise, I found it in Cali, Valle! Specifically, in a pueblo called "GINEBRA" outside of Cali. Before you ask, yes, we've had sancocho in "Medallo" several times! That said, my wife makes a killer sancocho here in the USA and her secret is to cook it low and slow with the right balance on condiments. Colombia is great and we go often because we have a residence outside of Bogota, but there are safety issues to contend with and although things have much improved, it still has a long way to go to resolve its problems. Comercially, things have gotten much better in the past 10 years and you can now buy many products in-country due to the trade agreements with China that you could not get before, but the stores in the USA are still more abundant in respect to inventory, selection and quality. Colombia is terrific, and one thing that it has hands down over the USA, especially for
      Colombo-Americans and ex-pats, is the cost of living! Earning in dollars in Colombia affords one a very comfortable and pleasant lifestyle.
      I only hope that Colombia goes forward in the right direction and does not succumb to
      political turmoil that will destabilize the country.
      Cheers!
      PS
      Colombians are very warm and welcoming as you pointed out, but "customer service" in Colombia really tries your patience!

I would feel completely safe with a few drinks in me walking around Bangkok at 2am on my own. I wouldnt do that in Mexico. For whatever reason, latin America has more problems with crime. Thats not to say bad things cant happen in SEA, but the likelihood is far far lower.

    I don't know where you go to eat but the food is better in the United States!! Let me start by saying, I live in Medellin and I'm not just talking from watching RUclips videos. Yes, you can find certain fresher fruit but that's it. It doesn't mean Colombia has better food simply because there are fresh avocados. lol Most of the food in Colombia is beans and rice, even for breakfast. There is no real variety like in the United States. If you live in Medellin, you know what I'm talking about. Most of the food is street food which is nasty, with them rock hard arepas and blocks of cheese that they serve as breakfast food. lol
