And that scene in the club where Elaine and Peter lock eyes across the dance floor, is just spine tingling... . I also think the music composed for this film is one of the greatest ever in film history, but I don’t think it was ever commercially released (I have been looking for it for years!!!)
I love Margi, even if she never knew you, she’d treat you like one of her old friends, I remember she used to say to people who casually greeted her “ Hello lad ( or Girl ) how are you ? And how’s your mother ? “ she made everyone feel like they actually knew her. She’s One in a Million, and she gets more beautiful with each day that passes. 🌹
one of the best actresses ever she deserves so much more recognition than she gets she really is a proper down to earth working class woman unaffected by the celebrity bullshit and the fame she plays the gritty normal everyday folk we can all relate to and she plays the part well because she has lived and seen real life unlike most of the stars of the stage and screen... i fucking love margi clarke she is a proper REAL PERSON WITH A HEART OF PURE GOLD!
This woman is a star. Why she is not on television on a regular basis is a mystery. Met her once she was just like talking to an old pal I had known for years. Hope you are well Margi.
I can't tell you how many times I have watched this film. It spoke to me. Margi Clarke deserved much more credit for this than she got. As did many of the other cast members. Captures the time so well. Takes me back. There was no jobs, little hope and we didn't know who to believe. The difference back then is that people still cared and were engaged. 11 years of Thatcherism soon destroyed all of that.
I loved "Letter To Brezhnev" and the character of Teresa, but I felt sorry for her in the end because the last line of the film suggests that she fell just as hard for Sergei in her own way as Elaine did for Peter but lacked enough courage (or recklessness) to take the same risk that Elaine did for Peter. (They also had a language barrier which made it virtually impossible for them to communicate.) .As she said, she's the one standing in her way when it comes to being able to have what she really wants.
Great interview the best British film ever made went to the opening night in London Road Liverpool everybody was cheering, I'm not in liverpool anymore but back in the day Margi WAS Liverpool along with Pete Burns etc, Margi is right the Liverpool nightlife was special too many clubs Erics, Mcmillans, Sadies full of characters, Margie was hilarious, I can still see her having a fight with a boob tube in Erics, wish i could tell the full story but it wouldn't be fair [though i'm sure she would'nt mind!] i still smile about it today...Love Margi Clarke and i always go back to this film
Are Lv Lv Margie Clarke, first time watching this interview, i had the pleasure of meeting Laurence, bk in 2020, setting up Soc liverpool , & I told him , how much I loved his mum & wished that had been a follow on from the film, I can not believe when she mentioned Chris shears, the hairdresser , I had the pleasure of working with him , when he came & worked in the salon I worked on great Charlotte street, Alan Paul, he could do wonders , with a clip / hairspray & tale bk comb , no one had ever heard of him, margins son, has eyes wide open, podcasts, & was in a documentary strawman , from few yrs ago, it’s in the blood, to make a mark, & proud to say, had the pleasure to meet once in the heritage market some yrs ago, god bless you Margie & your brother Frank, for writing ✍️ & all involved , the gift of the gab, quick witted, humour & sarcasm,& a good head on our shoulders, it’s not what you no who yer no, godbless Margie hope too see you in the Townie one day, ❤️❤️❤️
Very clever lady; has the ability to think outside the box; so naturally talented. This interview is so good.Far too good to go on a “ soap treadmill”I’m watching Blonde Fist as I write this.😀😀😀
I've always envisaged this girl would have made a great ambassador for Liverpool, her movies might have had a low budget but she always gave a Hollywood performance, and she has never been about what Liverpool has given her, but more about her giving back to Liverpool, so for just that alone thank you. not just a scouser, but she is a true scouser with a pedigree.
It's a really good interview this! Great DVD package as well, interviews, extras and great picture and sound quality. Margi and Alexandra were ace in Making Out as well!
My wife is an Everton gal, in the 70's at the age of 18 she "did one" with her best friend and joined the Army. She served for the next 18 years. She got to travel quite a bit, we now live in France but she still goes back "home" as she calls it to see family & friends. Also recharging her accent.
I thought Margi might mention how much William B. Hall and Ben Barenholz helped the larger success of LETTER TO BRESHNEV by promoting it via Circle Films in NYC and distributing it in USA nearly one year after it premiered in UK. www.angelfire.com/indie/hollywoodtattler/WBH-2001.html
Beautiful, gracious and talented lady. Pity Letter to Brezhnev wasn't 30 minutes longer with all 4x lovers eventually reunited in Russia. Perhaps the Ladies employed as English language teachers, with their pupils provided with a good rich Liverpool accent. The Soviets would never had known what hit them when a couple of Liverpool working class girls moving in.
I recently watched her all or nothing podcast with Billy Moore. It's on here She's living off a state pension now. She deserves better than that. Shes a Liverpool legend. She wasn't complaining by the way, just a fact.
SUPERB movie 🎦! 👏🏿 THE night 🌃 club 🕺 scene... Man 👨🏻 "Come on love come back to mine" Margi Clarke "No that was before I found out you had a sweaty 😰 a*** now beat it" 😅🤣😂 Genius!😂 Scouse! ✌🏿 👏🏿 😇 Xx
Think she plays a great role in this film it's so 80s the night life was great in the night clubs then. Even though people were struggling under Thatcher and her government.miner strike , unemployment, Riots!!
@@margiclarke Hey! I'd love to see you in something again, have loved everything I've seen you in, been a fan for a long time. Remember doing stand up at Band on the Wall in Manchester? I was there! Sending massive hugs to you Margi x
I’ve changed my mind about Margi Clarke. She comes across in this interview as rather personable. I used to find her rather course and was of the view that she was just playing herself in her various roles. How wrong can you be?
@@arteetmarteperfect4518 I’m happy to see that you’ve changed your opinion about the wonderful Margi Clarke, and btw - I doubt there’s another actress with a gob like a sewer and the face of an angel ;)
Margi Clarke working class...in a real genuine class of her own concerning acting. This film came out when I was a teenager in Northern Ireland and was writing to my penpal in the USSR. Margi was right there was and still is so much propaganda against Russia and she wasn't afraid to state that. I developed a lovely for Russian Ballet, Russian history and eventually went to study drama at uni. Margi was brilliant in all her acting roles because she kept her own personality, accent and style...good on ya girl 🎥🎬🎞️📼📺🎭
I love Margi Clarke,so under rated wish she was still on tv
Me too
i was on the bus with Margi the other week. Proper nice woman. Always says Hi and has time to talk to people.

Brilliant film this. The club scene where Elaine and Peter watch each other from a distance is priceless!
Hope we see more of Margi on television....don't see enough of her....great actress lovely lady.

I absolutely loved her in the film. She really made this movie and was the real star of it, even though I adore the rest of the cast.
Just watched the film the other day , so funny and so moving.
It has a rare thing, substance ❤️
Great interview. I really like Margi. She's just down to earth and I imagine she doesn't tolerate any less from others.

Chris sheard is my old hairdresser, he lived in Aigburth, rode a 250 motorbike. He had a fight with pete burns in the masquerade in the early 80's
She was stunning in Letter to Brezhnev when she slipped the red dress on ...
