Styropyro looking at the sodium used on the arrow and hears "That's a fair amount of sodium" and Looking back at the two barrels full of it when he was a kid "Rookie numbers"
This duo is like if Patton Oswalt's character from the Parks and Recs Filibuster recruited Ron Swanson to bring his absurd, nerdy ideas into reality using decades of practiced and well honed craftsmanship. Truly the Kings of Random, Grant would be proud.
Just as a reference, if you're going to be mashing alkali metals like that, you want to make sure they're super clean. If they're old oxidized samples and you pound them together, the oxidized alkali will react with the fresh exposed stuff....that can be catastrophic, particularly with potassium.
I wonder if putting panels of sodium in a knife or some sort of device thats lasercut hollow or with holes in it to have pieces of the sodium all over with steel or more standard metals holding it together would do something. I mean other than potentially a warcrime.
A coulomb reaction is causing the explosion: "chemical or physical process where the primary driving force is the electrostatic repulsion between positively charged ions"
First video I've watched in ages and my first impression is that there Seems like there's a new lackluster attitude towards safety. No safety glasses, gloves and the staging where they expect things to explode also seems quite amateurish.
I can't believe I've only just subscribed to this channel, I just love watching people do super dangerous crazy experiments. It saves setting my self and my house on fire (again). F ing lithium batteries are very dangerous and hard to extinguish. That also go for human beings. 👨🚒
jake, what was in your thermos, on 5:35 and because likely it was water or coffee, why are you almost shaking it at the brick of sodium on 5:37.... so, for the gel stabbing, why not make the spike barbed, then nitrogen cooled for hardness
It was coffee, probably shouldn't have had it so close to the sodium, but it was almost gone and I'm pretty good at not spilling my coffee lol. Nitrogen freezing to harden it as interesting idea...
Maybe the sodium popping out is and attempt to maintain chemical equilibrium with its environment and remain stable. This might be a great teaching tool, to demonstrate this principle.
Why use serrated or barbed knives when you can have the knife itself react with whatever you're stabbing. (this is just a joke youtube, chill) I do think that, not accounting for how bad the softness of sodium is for any form of stabbing tool, both the knife and the spike would benefit from having serrations or barb-like additions to it to prevent the ejection of the tool.
Another idea may be to shape the tool into a diamond shape, with a very steep slope at the tip so it can at least penetrate the surface, and a very shallow slope towards the handle. The idea being that the forces from the side will push it into the object you stab it into, even as it melts. I don't know if this would realistically work with the pressure build-up though
6:03 worst Smith ever. He is actually holding back the weight of the hammer from doing the work. Actively working against his tools. He choked up which makes sense with how soft sodium is, but he should be letting the weight of the hammer drop into the sodium not just making super light taps.
Sodium is a dead metal, meaning that it doesn’t hit back like ferrous metals. It’s exactly the same as forging clay. Soft clay. Raising the hammer higher would’ve given too much force and moved the metal too quickly which creates stress fractures.
@@TheKingofRandom I rarely like videos. I'm trying to like the ones here that I actually like to give the algorithm something to work with. The channel was... not good for a long time so it's going to take time to recover. I'm doing my part!

Styropyro is an anomaly and should not be compared to mere mortals like us
I heard it in his voice that is something he would definitely say 😂😂😂
We miss you Grant, sending love to the family 🫂
What have curly and mullet done to Grant's legacy.......

The dagger is definitely better because you can explode vampires with it

this is somthing grant would approve of
Hahaha the gel was like I reject your knife!
I havnt watched this channel in ages... So uhhhh who are these two? 😅🤙🏽
Idiots
Jarom was a friend of grant’s not sure who the other guy is
Rhett and Haley Joel Osmond
Me too!
The algorithm randomly showed me an old video with the og king and I was like "wait... isn't he dead?"
so yeah, I resubscribed
Ron Swanson and the youngest Hanson brother 😂
Sad to see the fall of of this channel..
@@ElijahWatts-ji9yx its good now

Its just as good as the old content and it is still improving
@Arijit12deb no it is not lol
@CoolWhipMan i never said anything about the content. I stated a fact, which is they're declining in views
😮 9:09 gel said nope 🤣
What happened to the random theory podcast there? Haven’t been a post in like eight months.
They quit
🍉 "Watermelon Time!!!" ⏰️
Amazing content, as always! 🎉🎉🎉
Hey! what about making .177 inch sphere molds and pressing the sodium into tiny balls for use in "pneumatic accelerators"?
Sodium stake vs. Vampire.
A coulomb reaction is causing the explosion: "chemical or physical process where the primary driving force is the electrostatic repulsion between positively charged ions"
Loved that explosion❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥👀
You should try mixing potassium and sodium and injection in to watermelon
11:55 whoooo! 👏 👏
Is there a reason for the sodium to be so oily during the knife shaping process?
The sodium is stored submerged in mineral oil to keep it from oxidizing/reacting with the water in the air
I think it's to keep the sodium from reacting with the moisture in the air
@@TheKingofRandom thank you so much for the helpful information
0:44 Must've skipped over this part.
This is why you don’t use alkali metals for kitchenware let alone weapons not only is it dumb it’s dangerous
Could you put the sodium in liquid nitrogen to harden it, or will it react the same as water?
Excellent question, we should test it
Potassium next!
Maybe you should try to sharpen it with whetstone (and water ofcourse)
Ballistic gel be like, "Rejected!"

Way more fun that way.
I would rather watch amatures than corpos.
That area looks trashed.
The shades it reminds me of Saxsquatch glasses I want to believe🛸. Why not make a crysis bow if aliens are invading?
why is it that when the knife was plunged into the gel, it bounced back?
Sodium 22 is cooler than normal sodium ngl

Try to make a sodium pellet for an air gun... must be even funnier !

I do think that, not accounting for how bad the softness of sodium is for any form of stabbing tool, both the knife and the spike would benefit from having serrations or barb-like additions to it to prevent the ejection of the tool.
The sodium melted far too quickly. We didn’t know that at the time but it wouldn’t have worked.
A good idea, but I'm pretty sure what caused the sodium to jump out was the pressure being made by the melting sodium creating hydrogen gas
I'm not 100 percent sure but I think your gallon jug is Gr😮Value distilled water.
Ojalá se pudieran hacer esa clase de experimentos en humanos, obviamente en presos que hayan desvivido o abusado y cosas así.
