Personally I always had preferred hiei to Kurama only because I just think there are far too many times when Kurama is just too nice to his opponent in a fight. For example the fight against gamma and then Touya could very easily have gotten Kurama killed. If Kurama had been a little less interested in mind games and a little more interested in surviving the round, he probably wouldn't have been put in the situation which forced him to plant the seeds of the death plant into his own body. I think had he not been so interested in playing with gamma's head, he would have ended both matches not only faster than he did, but also with fewer injuries and definitely not having the death plant growing out of his body. I think he also likely could have taken bakkun out of the game also had he not been so reckless.
Not only is it funny, but more importantly it is exceedingly natural. Not one line feels forced, and you feel the energy naturally flow around the room. Imagine this scene with real actors, and you'll see what I mean. Aside from obvious changes in visuals, nothing would stand out as unnatural. Nobody is doing ninja flips or anything rediculous, after all. Not to say that it should be live action, obviously, just pointing out how natural it feels in different aspects. This series is like a warm blanket on a cold winter night. It's so comfy, and the natural feel of dialogue makes the fight scenes feel more grounded, too. Makes you care about the outcomes of clashes. I hope as many kids as possible either read or watch YuYu Hakusho. It gets better with age as you accumulate wisdom and connect more with the more mature characters, and it becomes even more rewarding watching Yusuke grow as a person and learn to take on responsibilities in life. Such a great series.
That's Togashi for you. When someone asks me what I like about YYH (or HxH), it's the naturalness of their dialogue and action. Everything flows smoothly like a water. Many anime usually have a problem during the transition between one arc to another arc. Most of the time it ends up with a cringe conversation between the characters. But that's not the case with YYH and HxH.
Its not surprising to see Nintendo on Kuwabara's card. Before Nintendo went big with the Nintendo Home Entertainment System they were a company that made cards and other things.

Scenes like this is the reason I always saw YYH as drama. It’s shonen, action, drama. Moments like this where they are shown doing the most human things, and in each other’s company too, are such a treat. This scene was pretty cool before the girls showed up. Kurama and Kuwabara just chilling, playing cards and talking about the tournament with Hiei in the corner, watching the rain and listening in on their conversation. Just some bros quietly hanging out, the girls added a more fun dynamic when they entered the room, but I like the idea of the boys just chilling. Hiei plays a very important role because he's that 3rd guy who doesn't say anything but it would be awkward with just 2 so him being there makes the room a little more alive even though he's doing nothing, an underrated role in the friend group.
I remember as a kid Kuwabara's sudden switch from Botan to Yukina actually made me question if his flirting with Botan ever even happened after a while XD Such a shame the guy who is getting her jealous genuinely no longer has interest in her cause Botan is the best.
I know Hiei is the type to know of games as much as he knows of hugs and puppies and care for them even less. But I mean he really needed to lighten up. But that is his character, the brooding loner that never lets down his guard and is always as serious as a heart attack. I think the audience would have had a partial complex seizure if the Animators and story writers opted to have Hiei, out of the clear blue suddenly decide to play a game with all of them just this one time. Only for him to return to being the easily annoyed loner who is never more than a pencil drop away from killing someone. Would have made for a good Social Experiment to see how the audience and fans would have reacted to Hiei's one time change of heart on the cusp of a huge battle the next day.
