Ah yes, my 15 minutes of fame. Seeing the Mandala interface sent a shiver down my spine. I coded a few of the video zone games for Dean in New York. Never saw the sets. The mummy was a lot of work since the kids always hit the legs when ducking. I had to split it in half and Mandala didn't make syncing up the motion easy. Mandala didn't make anything easy. But it performed some real magic once you got it all to work. You gotta remember that Baseball in the late 80's and early 90's was very popular. Topps, Upper Deck, Score, Fleer and other card companies made an overly abundant amount of cards during that time, that even the rookie cards (especially those that would end up in the Hall of Fame) today are extremely cheap to get today because they made so many of them. It almost killed the hobby. Thankfully it's doing good now.
1994 MLB strike and cancellation of the World Series did irreparable harm to baseballs popularity. Early 90s, it was still popular with kids, second to NFL. Baseball strike coinciding with jordans popularity, 1992 Dream Team and assortment of NBA stars had NBA become kids second favorite league by that time.
The card cutters have done a lot of damage these past couple of years. For those out of the loop - for many years, a few previously-respected people have been buying slabbed cards, breaking them out, cutting as little as 1/64 of an inch off each edge to remove wear, and resubmitting them, only recently getting detected and called out for it. In some cases, a 1 point increase can make the card worth 1000’s more! Hopefully someone does a documentary on the scandal soon. It would be quite entertaining.

@@kevindube7096 It took me so long just to get to the speeder bike level as a kid and I think I only ever got to it maybe twice and I just gave up after that and never tried to get any further. It was just too much for me. So many expletive-laden outbursts and thrown controllers playing that game.
Thank you so much to Westling With Games for making this doc. I had forgotten this ever existed. For a short period of my early childhood, my parents had cable television, and when I was able, I'd catch episodes of this along with other strange kids shows. This show in particular reminds me of one that I think was called Video Power, where the winner at the end of the episode was able to go through a maze of video game wearing sticky armor and was able to keep any games the kids could stick to themselves.
Phil Moore was crazy in this, he really gave 110%. I would have given anything to be on this as a kid. 11 year old me would rage when someone who'd obviously never played a video game was on the show.
Omg! I had totally forgotten that this game show ever existed. I was 16 when I used to watch this. Thank you so much for bringing this part of my life again. And thank you so much for bringing this to us.
I'm honored that you watched. Thanks helping being to life a big part my childhoods. My friends and I still talk about this show in our group chat at least once a week.
Great video Yahel! I had completely forgotten about this show; I used to love watching it back in the days. One of the arcade games on the show stood out- King Of The Monsters. I always remembered that I saw that game on a show, but didn't know where, and now I know. Thanks for the video! 😋👍
I was almost sure that I had already seen this episode before. I then realised by scanning the comments that you had taken the original down to correct it. That is some real dedication and you have went above and beyond for your fans. Thanks it was real awesome to go through this nostalgia again.
Thanks for the amazing documentary! (As always :) ) You can really feel the sheer amount of love every single person on Nick Arcade put into making it the best they could. It was way ahead of their time
Awesome video I watched this way too much on the weekends even the reruns. 3 things that stood out whenever I watched the show: - At the end of round board reveals, Phil would almost ALWAYS mention the unclaimed Prize spaces. - The first space in nearly every given round was always a video puzzle (undoubtedly to show off more of the show's technology) - The controllers during the Video Challenge rounds sometimes didn't match up with the systems they were playing (the far right game was either a Neo Geo or Super Nintendo game, when it was a SNES game they would be using the NG controller to play it - I think one kid during a playthrough of Joe & Mac was undoubtedly confused about that on the air) In the Video Challenge rounds you were able to wager more points I believe up to your current score, not just 25.
Man I loved that show. I was so jealous of those kids getting on the gameshow. As I got older I realized, yeah it's probably a green/blue screen. The host was one of my favorites from Nick, he's behind Rick Summers from Double Dare. Great show for the 90's. Best show I can recall loving off the top of my head: You Can't do that on Television. Liver and brussel sprouts ha! Great video really loved this!!
I forgot all about this show. Thanks for kicking my memories back into my mind. Your old is you watched this growing up 😂. Not too old but on our way. Great video man love this.
Glad you enjoyed it. I rewatched a lot of Nick Arcade for this video and it's still fun to watch. Some of the consolation prizes were awful. They literally just gave them boxes of nerds candy sometimes lol.

I’m always excited to see new videos and look forward to your documentaries no matter what it’s on. I have a cooking channel myself and can understand how hard it is to make a mistake and lose those views to the algorithm. Your integrity means a lot to your fans!
My cousin was a contestant on this show... Unfortunately his team lost and he didn’t get to experience being “in” the video game at the end. It was amazing to watch, I was SOOOOO jealous! I still bring it up from time to time, and we have a laugh!
Great stuff as always, man! I never would have guessed they created actual games for the Video Zone segments. I always figured everything there was random.
Holy crap I forgot about this show, this was probably my favorite show growing up. I always just assumed someone manually controlled the hit detection in the video zone, 8 year old me didn't have a good grasp of video compositing. Thanks for making this video.
This was truly innovative stuff. The two creators were well ahead of their time. Who remembers all the other game shows in the 90s that involved more modern 3D games that were on the PS1 and let the players contest and the losers will be sent to like a dungeon “hell-kinda” space?
I don't recall watching this as a kid, but I do recall watching some of Nick's other game shows like _Global Guts_ and _Legends of the Hidden Temple._ Good times!
That sucks to hear about the drop in views. I just stumbled across your channel from MVG and your video on XBAND, and this is seriously some amazing work! I loved Nick Arcade as a kid, this show was my childhood. I'm definitely recommending your channel to friends! Thanks for this wonderful trip down memory lane.
Thanks for the kind words and for checking the channel out, I appreciate it! Thankfully the Neo Geo video I put out after this, which happens to feature MVG, did much better. I was very fortunate that the XBAND developers were willing to talk to me about it for hours. It wouldn't have been the same without them.
I've got one for you WwG - Find the show that was like Nintendo Power in news format. They would report on new games, discuss strategies and cheats for popular games, go over nintendo power issues (that's the only magazine I remember them talking about) and would even show games in a frame like it was running on the console (i.e. New gameboy games would be shown to the right of the presenter in a frame that looked like an actual gameboy). I used to watch that every time I could catch it on TV when I was little. I think it stopped running in the early 90s.

As always, another top notch production. 10/10
Thanks hellmann. Appreciate you always stopping by and watching.
Thanks for taking me back to being about 7 years old when I last saw this show. I remember really loving this show and it blew my mind back then.
Found out about this channel yesterday thanks to 616 (Ian). Loved watching Nick Arcade growing up, and also when I had the Nick GAS channel.
How does this video not have more views?
The editing is on point, it's full of information i never knew, and it's very well produced
Youre killing it WRG... Keep doing youre thing.. I like all your videos... But i loved this video
Thanks a lot! Unfortunately RUclips's algorithm just isn't showing it to people according to analytics and it didn't get shared on social media as much as I expected. It's a bummer to work on something so hard and have it bomb but it happens. I appreciate the comment though, it's motivating to read that kind of stuff!
I remember this show! I watched it every chance I got. This takes me back, wow. Thanks for making this video. It's amazing how advanced the game zone was for its time.
Thanks for watching!
When they showed the five arcades I was like, "Oh man, don't pick Battletoads." And then that young fool chose Battletoads.
He only had to beat just one part of one stage. That episode took 17 hours to finish filming
Video Power was another good one! I may cover it at some point. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I appreciate it.
Haven't though about this show in over 20 years.
Man I loved this show.
Me too, along with other good shows in the past.
This Show was ahead of its time. The technology along was so advance loved watching this as a kid
Phil Moore was crazy in this, he really gave 110%. I would have given anything to be on this as a kid. 11 year old me would rage when someone who'd obviously never played a video game was on the show.
My family and I went on a tour of Nickelodeon Studios back in '92 and we saw the set. Beautiful. This was prime Saturday viewing for me.
12:03 boy those sure look like the old AVGN title cards drawn by Mike Matei, I wonder if it was an intentional homage
Love this video and all of you're documentaries! Plus I want Xavier Woods to be the host of the reboot of Nick Arcade! He is the perfect host.
I agree. He'd be a great successor.
I remember watching this in the morning back to back with Wienerville on Nick. Time flies.
Omg! I had totally forgotten that this game show ever existed. I was 16 when I used to watch this. Thank you so much for bringing this part of my life again.
And thank you so much for bringing this to us.
Just came across this and I loved this show as a kid thanks for the happy memories Yahel ❤️
First saw this in 2003 on nick GAS and loved it. They really should bring this back.
Thanks for taking the time to cover Nickelodeon Arcade. Watching your video brought back a lot of great memories!
I'm honored that you watched. Thanks helping being to life a big part my childhoods. My friends and I still talk about this show in our group chat at least once a week.
I COMPLETELY forgot this show existed. I haven't thought about it in close to 25 years. Thank you for sharing this bit of 80's/90's kid nostalgia.
“This just blew me away, anand collects BASEBALL CARDS” lol wtf
Yahel, thanks for bringing this back from the recesses of my brain. I remembered 90%+ of the footage.
Wow I totally forgot about this show.. This video unlocked a lost memory for me haha thanks boss great video!! 🍻
Great video Yahel! I had completely forgotten about this show; I used to love watching it back in the days. One of the arcade games on the show stood out- King Of The Monsters. I always remembered that I saw that game on a show, but didn't know where, and now I know. Thanks for the video! 😋👍
Thanks!
Same!! I thought king of the monsters was the greatest thing ever and it was because of this show!
this show blew my mind when I was 6 just wondering how the fuck they jumped into that video game lol
Fantastic video, man. I loved Nick Arcade when I was younger and always wanted to be on the show.
Thanks! I wanted to be on it soooo bad but never got a chance. Thanks again for watching.
Watching this in full again after the re-upload because you deserve it!!! Such a great job on this.
Much Respect! Great work.
Dude, thanks so much. As you know that's a big help!
I was almost sure that I had already seen this episode before. I then realised by scanning the comments that you had taken the original down to correct it. That is some real dedication and you have went above and beyond for your fans. Thanks it was real awesome to go through this nostalgia again.
Thanks for watching it again. Unfortunately re uploading it caused RUclips to stop recommending the video lol
Very cool learning about how this show was made. Definitely one of my favorite shows as a kid.
Thanks for the amazing documentary! (As always :) ) You can really feel the sheer amount of love every single person on Nick Arcade put into making it the best they could. It was way ahead of their time
Thank you and I totally agree. You can tell they were passionate about making it the best they could.
This show, wild and crazy kids, and hey dude were my jam when I was a kid
Says “comments not available.” This video is so good I could watch it a few times
Hmm that's weird that it says that. This comment still came through. Probably just a RUclips bug. Thanks for the compliment!
What an AMAZING documentary! Thank you so much for making it!
Thanks!
I love when I find YT videos about shows I watched as a kid but had completely forgotten about
This is such a great video, thank you for taking the time to go behind the scenes of this show. I used to love this show back in the day
The Amiga was just amazing way ahead of its time!!!
The joy I got from waking up on Saturday at seven in the morning to watch this. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
Awesome video I watched this way too much on the weekends even the reruns. 3 things that stood out whenever I watched the show:
- At the end of round board reveals, Phil would almost ALWAYS mention the unclaimed Prize spaces.
- The first space in nearly every given round was always a video puzzle (undoubtedly to show off more of the show's technology)
- The controllers during the Video Challenge rounds sometimes didn't match up with the systems they were playing (the far right game was either a Neo Geo or Super Nintendo game, when it was a SNES game they would be using the NG controller to play it - I think one kid during a playthrough of Joe & Mac was undoubtedly confused about that on the air)
In the Video Challenge rounds you were able to wager more points I believe up to your current score, not just 25.
What a rush of memories I had completely forgot about! I used to love this show!
Glad you enjoyed it. I rewatched a lot of Nick Arcade for this video and it's still fun to watch. Some of the consolation prizes were awful. They literally just gave them boxes of nerds candy sometimes lol.
Man, you cover the best stuff. God bless you
Thanks so much!
@@WrestlingWithGaming Ut benedicat tibi Dominus in nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti. You bring the history of our favorite modern art (video games) into the dimension of love and culture. Gaming brings people together in these divisive times
U just brought back so many darn memories!! Wow!! I mean wow..
I was amazed by this show! And it seemed like I could never get enough of the show when I was a kid... kids today don't know!
Imagine bringing this back today???? Sheesh it would be AMAZING. They could have so much more, I could even imagine video game villains taking over instead of the game wizards... Imagine Ganon or Bowser or Ridley taking over the Nick Arcade with Link/Mario/Samus fulfilling the role of Mikey??
I would love if they brought it back. It'd probably be some kind of VR thing if they did.
This was one of my favorite shows growing up, it really was a truly magical experience to watch.
Indeed.
I remember loving this back in the early 90s. I never knew they made the episodes back to back like that. A year ago I found where I could find all the nick arcade episodes and promptly downloaded them. 🙂. Great memories
Great video! I remember this show as a 9-10 yr old kid and loved it, it's cool to hear the details as to how they did it!
Totally forgot about this show but, I loved it as a kid. Thanks for the video!
Younger me: I would love to go on a Nickelodeon game show to win a trip to Universal Studios.
Adult me: finally realizing that they win trips to Universal Studios while filming on at Universal Studios. 😂🙈
Now, if they were giving away return trips that could be redeemed up to a year later, sure that's fine. Otherwise...
i like that theme park, but was bummed when i went 20 years after nick arcade ended that there were no tv shows the public could attend, not to mention that the fountain that sprayed green dyed water was torn down.
Watched the original upload then watched this one to see what the difference was. Huge respect for making the correction.
This brought back such nostalgia. I wanted more than anything to be in a video. Well done!
Had to come back to rewatch this piece. Excellent work.
Thanks for watching it again, I appreciate it.
Big shout out to Karim and James. You guys were a huge part of my childhood. Also, great video, WWG!
Great stuff as always, man! I never would have guessed they created actual games for the Video Zone segments. I always figured everything there was random.
Thanks!
“Do you collect Baseball cards?” No.....”To the back of the line with you!”
"Do you collect baseball cards?" "Yes?" "LIAR! TO THE BACK OF THE LINE WITH YOU!"
It wouldn't have been the same without them.
great video! somehow I missed this show around that time, kid me would have loved this
Thanks!
great video! some of these sounds from that show I forgot all about. thanks for the trip, as always very well made 😁
Thanks!
