As a long time local that ride these parts frequently, there's so much little nuggets of history throughout that I just simply never knew about. Thanks for the video!
A great introduction to the cycle way. I lived in DC in the early 2000s and I used to ride down there. A great memory refresher. I hope to bikepack the canal to DC . Are there any good camp grounds near DC?
Absolutely loved this. I used to live in Alexandria VA and would put the bike on the car and drive to Roosevelt Island to MT Vernon. Brings back memories 😂
This was a lovely ride- the MVT is a great trail for those interested in history and Alexandria on a visit. I have a couple suggestions for further ride videos. A ride showing off the Metropolitan Branch Trail (perhaps starting at the Mall) and going to some of the breweries, restaurants, and parks that tourists interested in more local spots. A ride along Rock Creek from Georgetown to the Zoo, or further north. Or a historical ride from Bethesda to Georgetown along the CCT, showing off the rail tunnels and Fletcher's Cove.
Nice video Rob! Definitely a fan of the virtual bike rides. I know it can be tough to get engaging content from a lot of bikeways, but I would like to see future rides on Capital Crescent Trail into Georgetown, some of the Metropolitan Branch Trail and surrounding area, and maybe a ride from the Wharf to Navy Yard.
Thank you for all the videos Rob! We just returned from my first trip to DC and after watching your videos we were well informed on where to go, what to do and how to navigate public transit. You helped to make our vacation one we will never forget!
Great video! I love all your content! You're so good at presenting information! A ride through some of the neighborhoods would be cool. Not sure if that's possible though.
Rob, great and informative video. We lived in DC and Northern Virginia for 36 years before we moved to Lynchburg, VA, 22 years ago. Loved riding the then available trails but am now extremely jealous of you all for all the new trails and bike lanes you have. I agree with many of the suggestions for other videos for you to make and have a few others: I’m reading about somewhat new bike lanes on Wilson Bridge; new or extended trails in SE and Anacostia; protected bike lane down Pennsylvania Avenue; and a ride from Georgetown out C&O Canal to Capital Crescent Trail (or, perhaps, the CCT begins in G-Town?). May be beyond your area of interest, but I understand that the Custis Trail along Route 66 has been expanded to Centreville, VA. Rob, what distinguishes your “ride along” trail rides from others is your great and informative narration. Thank you!
Looks amazing! A lot less traffic interaction than I would have expected! Any MTB trails? Not to nitpick and maybe you adjusted off camera but your helmet was tilted way too far back - should be hitting just above browline in front. It helps to save your nose/face from being ground off as much.
Because I’m so cheap I actually once walked to and from the airport from Crystal City. Carrying luggage across the access roads was a bit tricky and dangerous. Often wondered how many others ever pulled this stunt, probably a few, but not to many.
This is really cool. After years (decades) of living out in the far suburbs, I moved into DC proper a couple months ago. I've done very little cycling in the city itself, but hope to do more in the new year. I'm not very comfortable with city biking, but I'm hoping to find some more chill/safe routes. I'd love any kind of guide to getting around the city on bike. Though I know it's constantly changing. Like, there are a bunch of supposed bike lanes on 14th NW, but you couldn't pay me to ride 14th, especially since the lanes often only last for a block or two before being cut off by street parking or some other random thing, even if you ignore all the construction. I'm definitely interested in Rock Creek Park, as well as the new Metropolitan Branch Trail. I used to ride the W&OD a lot, but never got closer in to the city than Vienna. And I've done the Accotink Creek trail between the City of Fairfax and "Lake" Accotink, but I haven't gone past there. Supposedly, it wraps around and you can get to Mount Vernon, but I never tried. It seems like there's a lot of bike-friendly trails in the region, but finding them can be tough. And getting to them, if you don't have a car with a bike rack, seems to be a challenge. But maybe it's not as bad as it seems?
My advice is to start small and build up your confidence. Some trails have a more chill vibe than others too. The Mt. Vernon Trail is usually busy with lots of people all the time. The Anacostia trail in DC might be more newbie friendly as it's usually much less busy. You could do bike on Metro to the Potomac Ave and pick up the trail near the Sousa Bridge.
Hi Rob gr8 video! Can you do a video from C&O tow Path trail to Union station? Taking Amtrak from WI to Cumberland than Bicycling from Cumberland to DC Sept 2025! Thank you 🤗😀
I live near Potomac Yards National Landing Crystal City and I think it's quieter here than in the Navy Yard. Even with metro, and commercial train, and DCA noise. Maybe because of the green space and the river soak up the noise.

Great content. Thanks for taking us along the bike ride on the Mount Vernon Trail. Would appreciate more biking videos.
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

Nice suggestions!
Excellent ride and commentary. I led my family on the ride from old town to Mt. Vernon this past June. Would highly recommend.
Nice!

Happy to hear you had a fun time.

Might be doable.

Can you bike to the Iwo Jima memorial from the national mall? I’d be interested in doing that.
New subscriber here , love your videos, watching from china hubei
Welcome aboard!
Sad thing about Alexandria: all the noise from DCA 😒
