I really like that you recognized and mentioned that not everybody has the same kitchen space. I thought that was very thoughtful.
JEN,YOU LOOK SO SLENDER IN THE BLACK FLORAL.THE FLORAL PRINT IS VERY FLATTERING!
Years ago, my husband built me a spice rack in my pantry. Then as a 2020 boredom project, I did a similar organization with Amazon jars and labels. Once it was done, it was the most grown up and put together I’ve ever felt in my life! 😂 I still look at it with amazement!
Love it!!
A good friend of mine is a wonderful cook, and uses many spices. Before I met her, I didn’t know there were any other spices besides salt and pepper. 😂😳 Nice video!
Jen that looks fantastic. I bought jars awhile ago and because of the pain I am in 24/7 I haven’t been able to get them done. I have a small cabinet and I have a lot of spices as well. I have so much because my son likes to have the more unusual spices lol 😂. He can just put spices together in a meal like he had been a chef for 30 years, it comes naturally to him and the food is amazing. I sit here and think really, how do you know what spices are good together without a recipe. So I share the large amount of spices like you, I think I have more than you and I don’t know what to do with half of them lol 😂. This was fun I love watching people organize things like this. Hugs 🤗
I just did this. I used the square bottles from Amazon because more will fit on shelf geometrically.
I love this Jen! Nikole from Health Nut Nutrition just posted a shorts video about how she organizes her spices by type and I'm definitely going to try it when I reorganize my spice cabinet! 😍😍😍 Such great ideas
I love a functional reorganization! A few spice cabinet tips I’ve learned: if you’re a lefty put them on the left, righty goes on the right. Pick the most commonly used spices, put or leave them in the bigger bottle and make them prominent. Lesser used spices are in smaller bottles and stored front to back in order of usefulness. I separate baking and cooking spices. I have more cooking spices. Wayyyy more. Most used cooking spices go on bottom shelf. Lesser used go on the middle. Baking spices and extracts go on top shelf. I put them in an old pan that I can grab and pull out on the counter. I’m a shorty so this helps a lot! I choose to go for function and ease since I can close the cabinet door.
Placement is so under rated. I always ask people I'm helping if they are right or left handed. And are they dominant. I'm right handed but left dominant because of my job.
Well done! I was using those magnetic containers (Amazon) that stuck to the side of the fridge but found the sheer volume of different spices was too much for the space & the lids became difficult to remove. After being hit by the hurricane, I’m in a do-over of everything & this makes sense AND looks super chic❤ thx for sharing .
I have a spice drawer and it’s a game changer! It’s right next to the stove so super easy when I’m cooking. Anything big like salt or whatever goes in my baking cabinet
I went with the Swommoly glass spice jars and their stainless rack system sold on Amazon. They fit their 70plus jars. The best purchase I made in 2022 and mounted on my pantry wall. I can se all the labels at a glance. So so smart and efficient. Highly recommend Swommoly.
I still nerd out organizing my stickers.. my planner stickers!
I am so not Pinterest Perfect! Looks great!
Yes Jen I can look at a job to do in my house n say , -- this won't take long at all n two hrs ltr I'm still doing it !!
Btw ur top is pretty the flowers looks good on ya ...🦋
I really like the plastic bin you use for your packets.... do you know where you got it or have a link please?
Thank you for inspiring me to tackle my spice cabinet! It’s in desperate need of some attention 😅
Great job organizing your spices! I love using spices and definitely appreciate being able to find what I need, right away.
I have a smaller cabinet that I use for my seasonings and I bought a slide-out spice rack from Amazon, and I love it! I used 3M sticky strips so it doesn’t ruin my cabinets 😊
Nice job organizing, Jen!! Looks awesome!
So satisfying!!! Love those jars, I did this about 2 years. I think I like your jars better. Now i have to talk myself out of buying those jars.
Oh also, my laundry detergent sheets came in the mail today! They smell amazing, VERY excited to use AND compost the packaging ya'll! 🪱
Jen... I have a small kitchen layout with only lower cabinets. I ordered my glass jars from Amazon set of 36 clear, labels included, and they have the pour/shaker inserts. I have them in a drawer by my stove. Down side of the jars in general --- extra containers with spices stacked somewhere else. 🙄😕 I buy in large sizes to save $$, but oh well. I have storage space for the open spices but my mission was not having a crap ton of spices taking space in my place. #liveandlearn #spicehoarder
I went through my spices recently and found 5 jars that I never opened! I donated them to our local Rescue mission. I also found a lot that had hardened which I threw away. They were very old and hard!
When we had to sell my Mom’s house and cleaned it out I found some old spices in metal jars dated 1971! 😳 Talk about old!
Looks great! Maybe you mentioned it in the video but I missed it. Did you somehow note expiration dates?
I did this a few years ago. I grabbed those 4oz ball mason jars on a whim and tested to see if they would fit standing up in the drawer right next to my stove and they did. I then tracked down a couple dozen, ran out and had to go back to get more. I labeled the top of the lids so you pull the drawer out and it’s just a sea of labels. I absolutely love it. I have them organized by type. Pepper flakes and spice blends with salt on the left, then garlic and onion, herbaceous things next and then rich ground spices like turmeric, ginger, cumin. Finally the right side has whole spices like nutmeg and star anise. Grouping like things, however that makes sense to you is probably more efficient than alphabetical order.
Once I got my spices in my own jars I looked for spices I could buy in bags to refill my jars and I found the spice house. One of their flatpacks fits my jars perfectly and they have THE freshest spices. The flatpacks also store beautifully if you don’t want to bother with jars at all.
That looks good Jen.....
I also resign myself to not having a perfect kitchen. I am not Martha and I never will be. Some areas are organized, some are not. I just bought one of those extender things to organize a certain spot in my kitchen. I like it a lot because I can see the spices in the back. Great idea.
There is a reason my channel is called what it is - Risa's Kluttered Kitchen. I live and work in a cluttered space. I too have way too many spices but I use a lot of them. Often. I also share them when I get really large jars of them, or I find something I like a lot, I will buy an extra jar for someone else.
I am sure it feels immeasurably better looking in the cabinets. I would rather who plastic or glass square containers so I can stack them a bit but that is me. I still need to reorganize the spices a bit. I do it 1-2x a year. Great job organizing.
Your spice cupboard looks amazing!! Blessings!!
I needed to do this so bad. Thank you for sharing! It looks so neat & Clean!
Use small hooks on the inside of the doors, and hang your measuring spoons on them ...
Great job! I have too many spices as well!
It looks great! ❤
Terrific job....looks great 👍
If I had a ton of spices, I would do this, but I don't have that many.
Jen and family have a great day have fun thanks from Oklahoma
I’ve been wanting to do this but I want the bamboo top with the double sided sifter and I haven’t been able to find one with the labels I like. It then again I’m definitely don’t have a Pinterest home so
Love this but how do you know of the spice is expired once you decant it to the new jars? I’m moving soon and I might be able to do this in my new kitchen.
My thoughts on alphabetical is to set it up that way but then pull everything you would use weekly to the front row.
Have you read that the dirtiest thing in your kitchen are spice jars. Think about how often you touch them while cooking and handling food.
I just did mine. I have 2 full shelves with 3 tier risers. That is after I gave away 30 spices I wasn’t using. 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️
Looks like they even included silica packs in each jar. Hopefully you didn't toss those. They will keep your spices from clumping but i'm still watching. Love a good organization project.
YOU GO GURL!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Good thing that those 'best by' dates don't matter. If you can still identify the spice by smell - it's still viable. If you can't, try rubbing it in your hands - if there is still not much smell, it's time to let it go. 6-12 months is usually the shelf-life optimally - but you can get much longer life out of a lot of spices.
Looks pretty but I feel like I'd spend too much time trying to find what I need since they all look the same hahahaaaa...
❤
Protip..... use your hair dryer as a final blast after drying your containers. Ensures no moisture
You do EVERYTHING girl, how do you have time for RUclips? Don't you want to have the kids make their own lunches?!
I would have cut those spice labels and put just the skinny strip with the name of the spice at the top of the jar, just under the lid line and then you would be able to see what you have when they are on their shelves. Too much label for just the spice name. Pretty, but impractical!
Lol! Double click on the Pinterest worthiness in my kitchen for sure!!! Soooo not!!!
I cleaned out my mom's spices once. I found baking powder from 1976! LMAO!! This was probably 2005. She wanted to keep it because "it's unopened. it is still good". No Mom, no!
Lol!!!
😂
I take care of an elderly man in his home.. & his wife has stuff from 2015 sure enough I opened it and ate it and never got sick.. & was fine. I don't care about dates personally.
Whenever I open my spice cabinet...I duck, and yell" stop, drop then roll" as they all fall to the ground🤣🤣
Omg, ! You are a spice hoarder just like us!!! Lol we love them so much
Haha I love your review of how you find it in the end. It does look stunning so hopefully you do get use to it. My spices are “organised” in cute salt and pepper shakers with the labels on the bottom so you can only imagine how hard it is to search for what you need. That being said the ridiculousness of it really brightens up anyone’s day who is in need of spice at my house. It’s hilarious and impractical lol
When you said hit the like button if we’re not perfect …. I was laughing so hard because that was totally ME!
I loved your organization of your spices, looks great!
Thanks Jen!
This is the kind of #newyearnewme I can get behind!
How do your deal with expiry dates ?
I love it !!! You can use pop up lights like the one's you have on your coffee bar to brighten the back spices
Great idea!!
The lack of the sprinkle option would drive be bananas. They look nice though
I definitely have my most used spices up front and then everything else alphabetized behind them. It works really well for me. Love the way yours came out!
It looks beautiful Jen!!! Milo and Murphy are your agents :)
You mean the jars aren't supposed to leap to the counter for you?
I love those jars and labels!
After fighting to see what I had in the cabinet I moved all of my spices to a drawer. I just stand them up and label the top. That way it fits a lot more and I can put the most used in the front. I also tried putting them in alphabetical order but that didn’t last (go figure!)
Hi Jen, good job!! Wow!You have completely transformed the spice cupboard. Alphabetical didn't work for me, so I categorized dried herbs together, meat/chicken/fish spices together, chilli spices together etc..that seems to work better for me in the long run.The spices I use most front and centre...just a suggestion to keep in mind.
Jen why dont you put the spices in a drawer that when.ylu open the drawee you can see all the spices.
Your spice jars look great! Awesome organization!
Are you concerned with losing the expiration dates for your spices once you put them in those jars?
I wondered that too. I don’t use egg containers for that reason, I keep them as they come so I know expiration date.
Easy solution write expiration date on bottom of jar with erasable marker
We did this when we moved and I had to order another set as well. I had no idea we had that many spices and some I didn't even remember buying. 😂
i always misjudge the amount of time that a task will take... literally always
I redid my spice cupboard too. I got a hung over the door spice rack. It fits over my pantry door. Holds a lot of jars. I love it. So accessible for me. Your cupboard looks really nice too.
It’s sooo pretty! Love the cohesive look gal. Such a big thing to check off your list. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Nicely done, looks great, and so functional!
(Perfection is an unattainable goal for any of us…and probably pretty boring, anyways.)
Loved this, thank you for sharing, Jen! 😊
(Hi, Milo! 🐶)
I don't think 🤔 spices expire? For me, I would alphabetize each/remove OLD/UNUSED spices all just to be certain & sure.👍🏾 Cool upload!👍🏾
Did something similar in a large drawer by my stove only to be told by my children that now I will never know when they expire - oh well they look pretty so that's what I was going for lol. - love the look of the jars and labels you got!
Dollar tree paint pen or chalk pen does wonders. Or michaels with a coupon. It comes off with oil or hand sanitizer
It looks great
You’ve inspired me to tackle my spice cabinet. I did it last year but it’s not working for me. I think what you did looks great. Life isn’t always going to be Instagram or Pinterest worthy but it should work for you. I love your channel.
I love it! I just realized that the reason my spices clump up is that when I sprinkle my seasonings in, is that the steam gets inside my spices.☺️
I am needing a new overhaul with my spice cabinet and I have them in a corner cabinet and it's hard to reach the back corner. I need to figure out a plan so I can use the back side too. Does anyone know how to use a corner cabinet? I am thinking about using three turn tables in the back and then having bins for the sides, does that sound like it could work? Thanks and I enjoy you're channel and this one is right up my alley right now since I am thinking about mine, keep up the great work, and take care!
Thanks I appreciate it and I guess my idea about the turntable was a good thing so I can reach and the whole space will be used. Thanks and take care!
#yolo 😂
I did this myself about 4 years ago. I have a freestanding pantry in my mud room, so I got 4 wooden units that came with the empty rectangular glass spice jars - like McCormick glass jars - and I printed my own labels. The units fit down the outside of my pantry which was doing nothing until I hung these units - and the jars slot in with just the lid showing. That protects them from light and I added moisture absorbers, too. Labeled lids and put in use order - baking spices together, Italian ones together, etc. I have doubled my spice usage since I can find them! I also did a drawer by the stove with my always used spices in it - garlic powder, onion powder, etc. Congratulations on getting it done!
Hey Jen! I did this a week ago and love it. I have the same pantry labels too :) Yours look great! Do you by chance have a link for the baking soda/powder jars?
You can never have enough spices because you don't have them all. I have a small kitchen, I have hundreds of herbs and spices.❤❤Foodies yeah.
I don’t know if I was a spice cabinet or spice drawer when we move 🤦🏽♀️ right now I have a spice cabinet tho.
Jen you make me laugh, when I saw one of your spices was out of date by 8 years. Now I don't feel so bad that my lime squeeze in my fridge was out of date by 6 years... Yes I kid you not, AND I was still using it in receipes!! Whoops :)
fyi, spices don't "expire". They simply start to lose potency. So its a waste to toss them. Just use more of the expired stuff..... Exception is things like pepper, but you should fresh grinding those anyway.
I have a drawer and cupboard of spices🤣🤣🤣. Cooking is easy with everything on hand!
I keep my spices mostly in alphabetical order expect for the ones that are used more frequently (such as salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, etc.). This is helpful in my kitchen since then I am able to narrow down where a spice such as taco seasoning might be. Until my husband cooks a dish and messes it all up. 😂
This gave me some ideas, I’ve been wanting to organize my spices but I’m very limited on space.
Lookd good but wont last. K would lkve to see a followup video to this in 3-6 monthes.
Lol, just saying.
Rather than the tiers, look up "vertical spice." You will save so much more room in your cabinet while also creating easy access to the spices in the back.
I love the spice rack, it created so much space in my cabinet! I put the ‘not used frequently’ spices in the back. Lol. Thx! 💕
#yolo!! 😂👏
When I don't want to wait for the dishwasher, I will wash by hand and rub them through a rinse cycle in the dishwasher.
Once you open the Better Than Bullion containers, they have to be refrigerated.
#yolo 😂
Love your hair today!
Haha! I know I’d have to order way more than 36 jars.
Great job. Be safe.
Adelyn says you can probably never have too many spices. 😂😂😂
Truth!
