This music video is really special for the Finns. The people involved in the video are well-known Finnish actors and actresses who have entertained us for decades in movies, TV series, children's shows, theaters and wherever. Really lovely that the band invited them to join this.
I like this uplifting song a lot. The famous Finnish actors/actresses in order of appearance: Pekka Huotari, Antti Litja, Seela Sella, Eeva Litmanen, Ismo Kallio and Vesa Vierikko. ⛄👍
Tommy, elan means liveliness..spirit..this song reminds us to enjoy every moment, step out of your comfort zone sometimes..celebrate life! Love this sooo much! ❤🦋
This is a special one. Tuomas Holopainen said: "'Oh, while I live to be the ruler of life, Not a slave. To meet life as a powerful conqueror, and nothing exterior to me will ever take command of me.' This beautiful quote from my hero Uncle Walt [Walt Whitman] was the starting point for writing 'Élan'. "The underlying theme of the song is nothing less than the meaning of life, which can be something different for all of us. "It's important to surrender yourself to the occasional 'free fall' and not to fear the path less traveled by." However, I think this song allows you to give it your own interpretation. NWSU/FloorFan 🤘😎🤘
I discover Nightwish because of this video into the RUclips suggestions. Will always be grateful to have the courage to click in! 😄 This Day, I discover my favourite all time band 🤟
I have heard this one before,Nightwish never fails even when they go a bit softer like in this track. Floor can sing stereo instructions, and I would be mesmerized.
but also this one: Kuolemanlaakso - Minä Elän: ruclips.net/video/yZ8YRuciB18/видео.html a bit more poetic and dissonant. The great Mikko Kotamäki (swallow the sun) on Vox, and produced by V. Santura from Triptykon. Guitars can't get much heavier than this.
Nightwish is always great, music video or live video. this is one of my favorites. And, my very favorite part is where Marko/Gandalf is standing on the bridge surrounded by fire. I always picture him waiting to meet the Balrog.
Never ceases to amaze me the quality of the lyrics, even more so considering English is their second language. Love the little pep talk at the start Tommy, as I mentioned before, empathy is king and you are the king of empathy.
I love Tuomas' smile too! And who else would use a phrase like "sedulous mice" in a folk metal song? Also, when you talked about connection at the start, I smiled thinking of how all the individual workers came together at the end in joyful companionship. I was at a gig last night with my wife 😊 - it was standing only, but they kindly fetched a chair for her - and I noticed how much better I cope with the crowd volume when it's a happy occasion than when it's sad. Good times!
@@TheWolffAndTheMelody Stornoway, an indie folk rock band. One of those "best experienced live" groups. That's it for February, next month is Judas Priest/Saxon/Uriah Heep and The Longest Johns (a folk & sea shanty group), then The Warning in April.
Very nice, however life recordings from the many performances they have done have my preference; as there are Wacken, Tampere, Wembley, Deichbrand, Pinkpop, Hellfest, because you can see so much more of their interaction with the crowd and the fun they have playing with eachother.
When this single first came out I had been in Germany less than six months, I had something like a friend circle but still felt very lonely and battled with a bad depressive episode. As a long time Nightwish fan, hearing new music from them felt like someone was reaching out to check in on me, see how I am feeling, reminding me to look for things to enjoy in my life. It was good to hear it, even if it wasn't the bombastic Nightwish I was used to (got enough of that when the album came lol).
I can relate to what you're saying. It was mostly Nightwish that got me through the awful first year of the pandemic. Even though we had our "friend circle" those times really messed things up for everybody and a lot of our friends vanished due to a number of reasons. Talk about feeling lonely! This song kept me from despairing and reminded me that I needed to get out there and live my life, although I had to do it somewhat differently for a while.
This is my go-to relaxing/feel good song if i've had a stressful day or whatever, it just instantly takes you to that special place where only NW can take you. And who else but Tuomas can come up with lines like "returning swans and sedulous mice" or "travel with great Elan, dance a jig at a funeral"..., he's a freaking wizard.
this song has some quite joyful melodies light as a butterfly kind of sound it kind of reminds me of the track music has such a warm and uplifting sound and vibe
I love this video, in many ways captures the true heart and soul of Nightwish, it shows a more human side to the band which I love. I know I have not been around as much but I still keep a track on what you are doing my friend, Big Love
Thank you. This song has a very special meaning to me. Your take-away pretty much nailed it: At times I forget that I still must find ways to get out ruts and do the things that I really like, even though circumstances make it more difficult than before.
Great reaction Tommy, I like the live version of this but this was a cool video as well. I always read Elan as a celebration of life, IDK if that is the intent tho. Not every NW song has to blow your doors off, this once is a bit more restrained and the message more than the song, is most important. TY for the react, I'm always down to hear NW! ♥and
First time for me to see and hear this video from Nightwish here with you, and I have seen and heard many reactors in recent years, but I don't know why and what makes me so moved by you, i truly don't get it!.....yes i do, i figured it out.... New sub
Everything already written about the term "Elan" in the comment is real and right, especially in the band spirit... but I add this information : this is a french word, above all with the " é", and it means, in french, a lot of positive things : momentum, impulse, run-up, impetus, and in love contexte : surge, urge, desire, rush, "élan du coeur" (heart impetus) and this word is often use with "vital" = élan vital... as "lifeforce" or "life energy". But élan is also the word for the elk 🤣
Fun fact time! It's believed that the lyric "meet me where the cliff greets the sea" is a reference to where Floor met her husband. And then, an album later on "How's the Heart" there's also a similar line "we met where the cliff greets the sea" as the verse then turns to her singing about her daughter ("now there's one who came from me"). Says a lot about how Tuomas is able to perfectly tailor a song to the singer so that it maximizes the emotion coming through their voice. ....that said....Elan has never really done it for me 😅 I by no means dislike it, just Endless Forms Most Beautiful is a very underwhelming album to me personally (mainly thematically but also musically)
I've heard the same about that lyric line. I wonder what it really means, cause Floor met her husband in a backstage area at a concert or festival. If it is a reference to Floor and her husband, there is probably a hidden meaning which isn't immediately obvious
@@DanTheSqueegeeMan they did meet backstage in the US on tour, when Sabaton and ReVamp were opening for Iced Earth...on Élan, I think the line is about taking chances or higher risks, or simply doing unusual things
This is the last Nightwish album I like. It's not as great as the previous but still decent. I like the theme of the songs, although this particular song is more about the music for me.

"Enjoy every moment": the best translation of the word " Nightwish" ❤
Thats so cool! I love the message behind it!

As someone else said, "Elan" means "liveliness". And coincidentally, "(Minä) Elän" is how you say "I live" in Finnish. 😊
and that reminds me of a Finnish "classic" ;) Mokoma - Minä Elän!: ruclips.net/video/qjz88rhasbE/видео.html

Dude agreed, Nightwish's lyrics are some of the best in all music. Appreciate you Howl!

This song always gives me a renewed appreciation for life.
That is so important
In this video was finish good actors. Who goes together village tavern.❤
Nightwish = Happiness.......smiles abound.
Thanks. I love this song
"Life" sums it up nicely.

I would love to do an acoustic cover of this band with bass tagelharpa and cello.
?I wonder if Patty Gurdy would do the vocals? A fool can dream.
that would be awesome!
Write a lyric for the song only you can understand. What a fantastic line!!
RIGHT!

Dude, I was just thinking about you the other day! Bill got so much love for you. Gonna shoot you a message on messenger.
You should go back to the beginning and watch Dark Chest of Wonders Jukkas last show. Great behind the scenes of the band on tour
🤗🍒🤘🏻 well done
Amazing song and video!
Indeed!
This was so fun!!!
Thank you for doing these reactions, we do appreciate your work!

Thank you for doing this one! I love this song and the video is amazing 💕🤩
A treat to see Marko with a stand-up bass. And Floor as a '40s songstress? ( *swoons*)

You should just have a party stream, while watching the 2015 live blu-ray, either Wembley Arena or Tampere show. (I prefer the latter one).
I like that idea! Let me figure out a day to take off and time.
