    I have a 2014 LS460, now 10 years old. Around town 13 mpg and on the highway 25+ mpg. Other than a windshield wiper sensor that was replaced under warrantee many years ago, the car has been bullet proof with no other mechanical or other issues in 10 + years. I understand that you purchased a high milage vehicle. What did you expect? If you plan to drive locally and not on the highway, then expect poor mileage but a great ride with comfort and very good acceleration. On the highway, smooth and quiet. Given that this is a V8, 25+ mpg is not bad. My other car is a recent RC350 F-sport, which I thoroughly enjoy. I get 32-33 mpg on the highway. I wish you well in your endeavors.

    My 2016 LS 460 is sitting at 199,244 miles and I will hit 200,000 this weekend. I think a lot of it comes down to the maintenance of the owner. I have been meticulous in my ownership since I bought it brand new and it has been flawless. I hope to hit 250,000 by it's 10th birthday and see what happens from there. Based on when I plan on retiring I should hit 500,000 miles with no problem. I am a Regional Manager for my company and average around 25,000 miles a year.
    Also, I have the RWD model so I can tell you your mpg is bad because of that. I get 27-28 on the highway with 18-20 mpg in city bumper to bumper.

    I'm really happy it worked, I was the guy who suggested it has to be the injectors from your last video... When a car misfires, emit black smokes and no obviously air leak with a smoke machine, with high positive or negative fuel trims.... It's the injectors... Now what I find weird about this Lexus design is on other cars it uses D.I for only higher speeds then port injection for low speed but in Lexus/toyota design they both work simultaneously even at idle speed the there's a D.I bias on higher speed... It's crazy. Enjoy your ride bro, happy motoring... Just be on top your maintenance and you're gold... Isn't as unreliable as the internet makes it seem.

    Marty I'm so glad you were able to resolve the fuel injector issue! BTW after hearing your injector issues I happened to price the ones for my 2017 LS (the part number is Lexus 2320939155B0 for the first set, $300 ea. and for the "port" injectors it's 23209-38060, $142 ea.) as always aftermarket can often be found dirt cheap if it's the only ones that are in reach right now, $106 for 8 injectors (no price given for the set of 16, since 8 of those in the set need to be for "PORT" ones), better than none!
    Every mechanic has been there, the impossible repair, that turns out to be something you'd never expect. It must have crossed your mind, that you got the car when you did, for the price you did (IDK what you paid for this car) because the previous owner couldn't resolve the problem either?
    I worked for a fleet for 30 years and saw a lot of huge mistakes, but nothing like this - wrong injectors fitted? This is the kind of thing I'd never even be prepared to find, let alone to fix. Also about the best "for lack of a nail" stories/automotive category, I ever heard.

    I think many or most mechanics might never have detected that 8 (or 16? for owners who haven't gotten this far into the LS yet, the LS 460 uses 2 fuel injectors per cylinder, so when shopping parts 8 of those need to specify they are "port injectors") of the injectors had been replaced by the wrong type! It would have taken a really good mechanic to spot this problem. Turns out Marty is that really good mechanic... No wonder he was ready to dump the car!

      A lot of the bad reputation of the LS460 cars, is because some of the optional equipment packages, installed assemblies that later proved troublesome and/or expensive to fix. The optional air suspension was one of those. It was reliable, for a while, but pneumatic systems in general are not usually known for bullet-proof reliability. And when the air suspension broke, the repair cost (just one of the 4 air shock struts could cost almost $2,000) could often be more than the car might be worth. So a lot of those owners, faced with a fix-it or dump-it decision, opted to switch back to a conventional suspension (the kit to do this is about $1,000, or, one could simply unplug the Suspension Control ECU and get roughly the same result, but free).
      I bought my 2017 LS in May 2023. It is rear wheel drive (vs all wheel drive and all its added hardware), and without air suspension. If it had either of those things I would have bought another car instead.

    I never heard anyone mention the LS460 is the least reliable Lexus... Not sure where you got that from. The most expensive to Maintain, yes that I heard a lot.

    • @MartyMotoring
      @MartyMotoring  4 месяца назад

      I’ve seen it on forums and heard it from a few people. Relative to other models I’ve owned, it has the most known issues and needs more maintenance. I went into it knowing that, having fixed up many cars, but didn’t expect it to fight me along the way lol.

Me personally I don't need my LS either it's actually a 3rd car but I love it . I would keep it if I was you especially after all the blood sweat and tears you poured into it 😂

    Realistically this wasn’t that big of an issue and was likely messed up from a previous repair, you just spent a lot on guessing the issue.

    • @MartyMotoring
      @MartyMotoring  4 месяца назад

      True, it was just the direct injectors plus all the gaskets and valley plate which was pretty involved due to all the labor. But I faced leaks, troubleshooting and bad injectors along the way so it wasn’t as straight forward as it seems, and the codes led me to believe other things were wrong along the way. For example, the throttle body connector broke so I have to wires up a new pigtail for that. The plastic gets so brittle unfortunately and little things like that set me back.
