@@fallingawayfromthenorm Yeah, it was Shockwave Flash, which was pretty much phased out by the mid to late 2000’s in favor of regular Flash. I mean, it was still being developed, and you could still use it then, but hardly anyone did except to play old games.
The biggest takeaway are the playable characters, as they were all part of this campaign Cartoon Network had back in 2000, when they aired new shorts and wanted viewers to vote on which shorts be made as their new Cartoon Cartoons series. Grim Adventures was one of those shorts. The childhood memories
This game just popped back into my head of playing it all the time with my siblings as a kid, I'm now 26 just looked it up and I feel like my childhood just flashed before my eyes. All the memories came back with just the soundtrack and visuals of this game
I like how the sign by the fountains gets more and more aggressive over time, with the guy eventually giving up and quitting because he couldn't take it anymore. Details like that are just classic.
If I were developing this game, I’d add the false information that there’s nothing under the fountains, like so: Episode 1: Please do not move the fountains. There is nothing underneath them. Episode 2: I said, do not move the fountains! There’s nothing underneath them! Episode 3: For the last time, there is nothing underneath the fountains, so do not move them! Episode 4: Fine, go ahead and move the fountains, but don’t blame me when you don’t find anything under them!
Holy fuck, cant believe someone uploaded a whole playthrough of this game, thank you for giving me closure, i was never able to finish this game as a kid.
Man, playing these games, watching Cartoon Cartoon fridays to get the 3 word code they'd give you to use on the website. I'm only 31 but christ do I feel old.
30, and same here. The classic Cartoon Cartoon Fridays from the Powerhouse era could never be matched. When they switched it to live action during the City era, it got really weird and watered-down and unfunny.
Agreed, I'm thirty and it seemed like time took forever to pass and now looking back, it feels as if I grew up fast and the fond memories are almost distant in a way.
I remember back in summer of '99 when I was 8 years old, my parents and relatives were vacationing in Panama City Beach, FL. And the summer resort in-game looks so familiar to where we stayed at the time. Combined with the fact that I often watched whatever Cartoon Cartoon shows Cartoon Network aired during that time, it left me with such excellent childhood memories!!
When I was a kid I originally found this through a little box at the bottom right of the old website, it showed you all the different websites CN had! I specifically remember jumping through all of them, since they all had slightly different games. That's where I managed to find this one! I have no idea how like 6-year-old me managed to play through this but it has been a core memory in my gummy brain.
This game is so nostalgic along with the old cartoon network! I remember coming home from school and going on the computer and playing the games. I also remember the long, fun summers.. getting up and hopping on the computer sitting in the nice cold house all day playing the games. Take me back.. im now 24 and miss being a kid.
Pretty cool that the rejected pilots were immortalized in this game. But the one cartoon that was chosen to have a series isn’t featured in this game. I can’t remember if this particular one was the same summer Kids Next Door won the vote or the one where Billy and Mandy won. But I guess they expected one of these cartoons to win instead of the ones that actually did. 😂
I couldn’t remember the name of this game but I remember it came out around the summer time so I typed in “Cartoon Network summer flash game” and sure enough this popped up. Had so much fun playing this game on the family computer as a kid. Thank you for uploading this.
Some consistent things with these episodes, The magic number is "5", The Mayor keeps losing things, Someone keeps getting pissed off when you move the fountains, Chicken is always mean to cow, Mojo Jojo always scares Courage, and Double D love his junk food.
I guess to make up for the fact that Ed and Eddy didn't appear for the main series of these games(they only appeared in the spinoffs of this game series, like Bean Bag Tag and Kick the Can)
2020? wow, and thanks! Recently got to thinking of this old game and it type of game design as inspiration for roleplaying design, as I thought it was really interesting how it was all one big puzzle a lot of the time, thanks for making a video, it really helped! (I don't remember the game graphics looking this... unique, or the clunky interface, but the scenes and music defiantly match.)
I like Grim and Evil and Kids Next Door, but sometimes I wish some of the other pilots got chosen instead. They didn’t always resonate with my humor. Robot Jones was dope, but got ruined when they chose to replace the text-to-speech voice with the child voice actor. That’s when I stopped watching, and I think a majority of kids felt the same, hence leading to its cancellation. A shame how most of the original show is lost media now.
ep 3 is the shortest, just walk into the volcano after getting the boat. theres a glitch that lets you through the wall. most likely the right wall as soon as you enter the volcano. the dot teleports you to another dot which lead you to courage and near the exit..and you win.
It’s like these legendary successful Cartoon Network characters can help these new characters become a success if they do all their favors but it never came to be even they helped them with everything
I remember getting stuck playing this game when I was a kid around 2005-7 ish. Because when's you did anything it asked you to hit the "Return" key, and my keyboard didn't have one so I didn't know what to press. Until I saw that the old Macs at my elementary school had "Return" instead of "Enter" and realized that they wanted you to press the enter key.
I remember playing this game all summer long years ago. It felt like a huge expansive CN world you could explore. I think my only gripe with it is that the playable characters were throw away characters for pilots that didn't even get greenlit. But everything else made up for it.
My desktop is on the fritz so I haven't been able to play some of my favorite games. So I get online to search for this game, only to find out it's finally been taken down? I swear I was just playing it during lockdown. Talk about nostalgia.

The fact that the dialogue boxes have the windows 95 scroll bar really puts into perspective how old this is

It's weird how the game's NPC are all highly recognizable. But the player characters are from extremely short-lived cartoons.
They're all from a contest held to make one of them a full series. Iirc, none of the options were any good.
@Zangamarth Yeah, I found out afterwards that the ONE show they didn't advertise ended up winning.
I love that the background music is literally a what 30 second loop? Haha
Somehow it rarely ever got irritating. Maybe after a couple or a few hours I’d turn it down. 😂
