    Great songs by my favourite artist. That's Kate's father in The Fog, and the song was inspired by him teaching Kate how to swim when she was a child.

    I don't think anyone else has mentioned this yet: the violin solo on The Fog is played by Nigel Kennedy, one-time "enfant terrible" of the British classical music scene, and certainly an extravagantly musician. His solo is simply exquisite, adding the icing on an already gorgeous cake. The swirling orchestral arrangement fits so perfectly with the song. A proper eargasm.

    ...Kate was/is a magician, who expresses herself through the medium of music, and choreography - her videos are as hypnotic as her singing and overall compositions. I also felt throughout her career that she always was true to herself... whatever she wanted to do, she did authentically... a role model for a whole generation... love Kate 💖
    ...and what a match to hear and see your reaction, Brandon - being the magician of deep listening, feelings and words, that you are... 🌈

    More Kate! You are in for a treat. She came out of the gate running with her first album. (Her second is also outstanding, no sophomore slump.) I fully absorbed “The Sensual World” when it first came out. It was my real entry point to Kate’s world. It’s a masterpiece throughout.

      @@retroreactions.... there’s a song on the Sensual World (“Deeper Understanding” is the title) where she sings about online dating, long before it was a popular thing, using computer beeps and tech noises, but painting a picture of unsatisfied longing for love and connection. It’s poignant, funny, insightful, and quirky as hell! But it hits hard if you find yourself spending too much time with machines instead of people 😁. My other favorite quirky song of hers is an older one, called “Babushka”. Great, unusual vocals and energy! She is a creative treasure

      @@robslack5468I'm never concerned with peoples interruption of songs because they're all open but when things are said with conviction I take note, I'm saying this in a kind way but letting you know deeper understanding isn't about on-line dating, she was ahead on time with a song about a friendship someone builds with their computer and shuts out human connection.

Some folk and Irish influences as classical orchestration is also exciting, with middle age moods in the last song.

    All three songs exude excellence, pretty much a guarantee when it's Kate Bush! 🥰🥰🥰 It's been a long time since I've heard "The Fog", what a treat! The other two I'm very familiar with, "The Sensual World" is great and uses a modified Balkan folk music melody (I used to be in a Balkan folk music band and we did a version of the original, I'm forgetting the name at the moment but it was in an odd time signature, where Kate modified it to fit into an even time signature) and "The Man With The Child In His Eyes" is a long time top favorite of mine and can bring tears occasionally! Also on The Sensual World album my most favorite cut is "This Woman's Work", which was a contender for my Eclectic Love Songs list but, at one point I had all of the saddest tear rendering songs I could think of and it was just too heavy to listen to all of them in a row! (plus the list was an hour and a half long!😅)

    Hey Brandon, thank you for the warm memories of my teenage years.
    TMWACIHE is a delight and one of the first song I heard who made me realise that I love English pop. It's timeless and you can feel the lany splendors to come.
    TSW is hypnotic and always makes me think of swirling dervishes. An interesting fact: the lyrics from Janes Joyce's Ulysses and the Molly monologue were problematic at first since his estate refused to let her use it, then when they heard the alternate version she came up with, they finally agreed. Also, she said she repeats "yes" because it is for her "the most feminine word of the language". Certainly food for thought...
    TF I completely forgot about, what a complex production! It's as hopeful as it is ominous and there's really no one quite like Kate Bush. Eat your heart out, Tori!
    Cheers my dear, please pick from The Dreaming next, it's her darkest album and I love it!

    One of the greatest and most progressive musicians ever. She inspired so many people.
    To be honest, when The Sensual World Album came out it was a huge disapointment for me - The title track and especially The Fog were by far the best songs imo. Until then she developped her music, sound, and production, as well as experimentation with every album since Lionheart. It was also a very "soft" album for me compared to her harder and more experimental previous albums. In retrospective it is not that bad but still one of my least beloved ones (The disasteroursl produced - also by her opinion - The Red Shoes is much worse).

    • @TheoZoffrok
      @TheoZoffrok 3 месяца назад

      You're right that Kate expressed dissatisfaction with the production on The Sensual World and The Red Shoes, and the latter is certainly uneven. I don't agree that they're poor records though. The Sensual World, in addition to the two songs you mention, has This Woman's Work, justly one of her most beloved songs; the uncannily prescient Deeper Understanding; and the lovely, low-key Never Be Mine. As for The Red Shoes, its highlights are magnificent: the beautiful, poignant Moments Of Pleasure; the menacing, insistent title song; the euphoric Top Of The City, with a truly epic bassline; and the last song, You're The One, one of the most nakedly personal songs she ever recorded, and a real emotional gut punch.
