I think I've figured out what's wrong with forzas audio including fh5. Fh5s audio mix as a whole is way better than fh4, sounds more accurate to real life. And I've heard many exhaust /engine recordings sounding better too but some sound worse. Besides that there are a few things I think forza as a franchise is failing to do with its engine audio... Engines sounds lack might and power. They just sound flat , there's no bass or rumble that changes or hits at specific rpms. Like when irl the pipes resonate with the rpm it gets extra bassy. Also the shifts ,redlines, and pops lack the same thing. U can't feel the shift or the rev limiter OR THE POPS thru the audio AT ALL. When I played the crew 2 for the first time , the exhaust pops legit scared me they fucking popped for real lol. Oh yeah and the turbo /induction sounds are horrible. Not trying to shit on forza, it's legit my favorite game. Just honest thoughts
You are absolutely correct, they lack bass, not accurate and is just not satisfying. Ferraris doesn't sound like Ferraris. F1 sound is worse than before. V8 engine actual sound does not exist is this game. Don't they. I don't think they have a real car guy making engine sounds.
I like how rich in texture the fh5 sounds are but many miss a lot of the pure roar the fh4 motors gave. One of my favs in this video are the fh5 Maserati Mc12 or the fh4 McLaren F1, they kinda have both.
tex·ture /ˈteksCHər/ Learn to pronounce noun: texture; plural noun: textures the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or substance. "skin texture and tone"
U clearly haven’t heard one irl. Which not many have but at Goodwood they have some Bugattis occasionally go up the hill. They don’t make much of a noise which W motors don’t. That’s why Bentley and rolls use them for quite luxury cruising.
It’s because they all have the same transmission upgrade, in the game there’s 8 speed/10 speed race transmission he probably put the same one in all these cars sadly
I really wish they add many of the more common and casual vehicles too in the game and not mostly those exotics and rare and almost unique millionaire cars. Low performance and affordable cars like in the older games please 🥰 cars like those you get early in forza motorsport 2, 3 and 4 and from different eras too, not the latest models only.
What latest models only? There's barley any 2020 cars in the game let alone 2021 smh y'all gonna be playing the same FH4 cars with a couple new vehicles from what I can see at the moment.
@@andrewalbrandt7585 no it isn't it is in fh3 but why is forza not giving the lower trim levels of the car for example cadillac escalade was in fh4 why didn't we get the tahoe or the yukon
What i got from this, especially with the Ferrari 599XX Evo, was the experience of actually racing at breathtaking speeds. In forza horizon 4, 200 Kph felt like 50. In Fh5, going that speed looks like it FEELS as though you are actually going that speed. Also, the graphics increase is insane. I thought that forza horizon 4 was beautiful and rendered as well as a game could ever be rendered until i saw forza horizon 5. Makes me wonder… what could possibly be in store for horizon 6?
If Turn10 made a proper job with rebooting Motorsport title with new engine sounds etc, it will be good base for Horizon 6, as it will be only Windows and Xbox Series.
@mo gamer They have built this game to scale well. They don't have to do too much with dynamic scaling in place, yes they have to create other assets, but this also isn't their first attempt. For older spec systems they are likely reusing assets from past games.
This! It does seem that way which is good because the lack of sense of speed made FH4 a tad boring and artificial for me. Want sense of speed done right? Look at NFS Heat :D
Not going to lie i’m pretty dissapointed with some of the sounds in this video. I record cars in my spare time (have done for over 10 years now) and i’d love to be in contact with Playground Games and help them improve the car sounds as a (Autistic) Car guy who knows off by heart and has heard every car in person 👍🏼 I’d make sure the car sounds were spot on. A lot of the sounds are still far from the real life sounds, I would love to help Playground Games improve the sounds more. Let me know if you can get me in touch Don ✌🏼 nice video regardless…
I've been kind of baffled since RUclipsr's like Don have gotten access to the game, and everyone seems to be head over heels for the new engine sounds. And I'm just.... not. Glad to see I'm not alone here. I'm also heavily into sound design and recording and I have the same issues.
@@castin5244 a lot of the cars are still using the wrong sort of sounds, the Zenvo for instance is a flat plane V8 in real life yet sounds different on here, as a community I guess we just have to have our voices heard to strive for better sounds
idk about the sounds honestly… the FH4 engines were louder and more „screaming“ into your face. so far, most FH5 sounds i heard i liked the FH4 versions better. the new sounds are to quiet the Lambo Sesto Elemento is the opposite way! FH4 is quiter and FH5 screams more, that one i like 5:23 but then look at the mclaren f1 for example 10:05 why did they make the screaming engine sound like a swarm of bees?!? 12:31 most ferrari engines in FH5 sound horrible… FH4: screaming engine, FH5: swarm of bees again :(
Looks like people are starting to notice the new sounds are not all that great. They really had us going with those cherry picked sounds they first showed off.
I don't like to be pessimistic but a lot of sounds are still wrong. Yes, they changed the quality. But they couldn't do it any worse than Horizon 4, with repetitive and super compressed sounds. Some of the sounds improved, but plenty of them didn't. They did it in the quality aspect, not in the accuracy to the real life counterpart. For example, the Apollo IE has an AMAZING sound in real life. In H5 it just sounds like an Aventador. The tuned R34 has the same sound file as the A90 Supra. The Enzo doesn't sound exactly like an Enzo, and the list is long if we just hear car by car. I may sound annoying but the fact is, a multi million dollar company could make an immensely better job. Dirt Rally and GT Sport are kings in sound department. And it's extremely strange to say that GT is, because even until GT6 the sounds were like vacum cleaners, but GT Sport made a HUGE step. And I don't quite like that upshit effect, since they applied to every single car. I don't know why is so hard to replicate the real shifting times. DCT are so fast you can't even notice the upshit. Those don't have that "jump" when you upshift. That would be ok in an Aventador for example. But I think PG even applied that effect to manual cars.
1: there are a shit ton of cars in fh5. Like an actual boatload. Some of which, are EXTREMELY rare. They can’t get their hands on everything. 2: They aren’t done. 3: pretty sure that upshift effect is because DJS plays with Manual w/ Clutch, so there’s bound to be a little jump before an upshift.
For the jumpy upshift thing, I’m pretty sure it’s because he’s running “manual+clutch” in his transmission settings. When he upshifts, he’s holding the accelerator down and during the gearshift the game makes him rev bang, it’s a little weird but if ur running just manual shifting without clutch, this won’t be a thing. I can tell because even in his Horizon 4 clips it’s doing that
@@jasonander4964 I know there a ton of cars...still, they have the resources. In a video they posted you can see they got an XJ220 for recording the sounds, and that's a pretty rare car! And, for example I think the Apollo uses a V12 from modern Ferraris, so at least use that sound, not the Aventador's.
A90 amd R34 both have I6 engines, same with the 2J so with exhaust mods and whatnot its not surprising they sound similar. Example, i saw an IRL video of a B58 from an A90 sounding like a 2J.
Is it just me or do some of the sounds, like the Centenario and Divo sound similar but they've just 'toned down' the sound a bit? Idk but for those 2 cars in particular it still doesn't give the same aggressive sounds the real cars make. Just my thoughts.
I hated playing fh4 for a long period because it hurt my ears hearing an m4 scream at 6k RPM all the time. Also I own a lexus lfa in fh4, I couldnt play longer then an hour max
@@harmannfs8297 yeah… it puzzles me how older games have better sounds as well as games like project cars 2 able to nail the car sounds. It would be interesting to dig a bit deeper on this
FH5 introduces so much high-frequency spectrum that it just sounds like FH4 sounds with white noise on top. The bassy rumble is missing and generally the sound of the cars have less of a symphonic feeling and more of a monophonic sound where it all sounds like ONE sound rather than a bunch of different sounds together.
Just a minor thing I noticed which I hope is fixed when the game launches is the fact that the 911 GT2RS exhausts are misplaced, the flames come out of the left and right rather than the middle
I think thats because of the Bodykit, but don't worry it's the preview version. It'll get fixed, stuff like that isn't really a priority for a playable preview
I don't know about the 911 gt2rs in particular, but cars like the regera have exhausts on the sides with a fake one in the middle, so it makes sense for flames to shoot out the sides, maybe it's the same with the porsche?
@@t0x1city14 not necessarily, I know what you mean but the exhausts on the GT2RS are on the rear of the car in the middle, and the flames are spit from each of the rear left and rear right
What engine sound methods did games from the early 2010's use? They were so much better back then, or is it because we're cramming so many damn cars in new game now?
I'm pretty sure they were just enhanced and fake, to please the ears. These are literally recorded straight from the car. Kind of like photoshopped and not photoshopped, but then for car sounds
I may be wrong, I think whoever did the sounds earlier stopped working for them or something? That was one thing I’d heard, not sure if it’s true or not.
@@roadchewerpe5759 The one making sounds from them switched to Polyphony Digital if I am correct. Not fully sure about it, I remember reading something like this though
@@_-Anthony-_ tbh it was a great mix, they really recorded the cars/tried to make them sound as close as real plus then add some more, just look at FH2, some of the cars there are still unbeaten in game sound like the RS4, E63 or the Aventador
@@_-Anthony-_ Bro, FH5 sound for 60% cars are not accurate. Surely it is improved from FH4 but old car games sound better. Even NFS, GT Sport, FH2 sounds better. Specially car games till 2013 they do not have any comparison to FH5 sounds. They so better.
Ok , so I'm not sure if those engine sounds are more realistic to the real cars (at least not all of them ) , but I can tell you one thing- Pretty much all of the sound better than fh4
They used every single car that is in the game to get the actual sound of the car and other cars that will be in future updates but in FH5 the upgrades change the sound of the car as you upgrade it In the engine tab Edit: just changed a few things
Graphics are incredible But the sound just doesn't seem anything like irl. The deep grumble or slight kind of eco they make irl is so satisfying, and I feel like all car games just miss that. What we need, is someone dedicated to get us a sound mod
@@not.aghost Assetto Corsa on PC is what it could sound like if Playground Games gave a fuck. Go ahead, type "assetto corsa 2jz sound mod" into the search bar and have your mind blown.
@@not.aghost im gonna be honest. Need for speed has been doing a way better job at that than forza (literally the only thing it has going for it at this point).
The sounds are amazing and realistic but I think the sound needs some tuning, I can here the small details in the engine running clearly but the actual exhaust sound is quiet. So the main sound needs to be louder or everything else needs to be quieter. To all the people saying its bad, it is either not finished in the preview build or not tuned properly, it is realistic though.
For me personally the Vulcan in Chase Cam sounds better in FH4. Also whats up with the Zonda R ? I remember it sounding absolutely mental in FM6 but since then it kinda isnt right. The Rest sounds way better in the new Game.
The environment and the cars are gorgeous. Especially cockpit and hood cam. I still dislike how some colors & materials can make cars look fake but that is just a small complaint .
THe intenza emozione sound more like a v12 Aventador ( Veneno,Centenario,SV) than the actuall Aventador, even knowing that this cars has a Ferrari F140 V12 block WEIRD RIGHT?? WHATVER :... The CLK sound is wrong. The Zonda R sound is weird because is good but at the same time it isn't, it looks like they only had the front sound and not the exhaust one, somenthing similar happens in the Vulcan ( in this case the sound is pretty good.) THE MC12 CORSA has a Ferrari f140 V12 Block and they recicled the sound of the Centenario coming from the FM7 YIKESSSSSSS: The Diablo sound is f wrong in Both games.. The 599xx is weird it has a Ferrari F140 V12 Block similar to the Fxx K but still weird it doesn't sound good. The Jesko V8 is not the same as the Koennigsegg Agera/one/ccx sound, it is different but they are using the same sound file. Also ( they aren't in this vid, but i will say it anyways) the 918 and P1,CGT sound are bad too - Surprisingly (sarcasm) Being someone who enjoys the engine sounds and actually knows how they really sound, then hearing some of them in this game it's kinda disappointing, improvement index is present but it's not that good.
yeah i see what you mean by the mc12 corsa sound is a recycled fm7 centenario sound sounds pretty much exactly like it but at least it's much better than fh4
To me a lot of the cars sound like they tried to add induction and mechanical (a lot of them sound like sequential trans) noise mixed in to the exhaust note, which is a great idea, but why am I hearing induction and trans noise from 3rd person view? I'm out side and behind the car not inside...
@@Nathan1LE exactly you are the one who undestand it, Hearing things like the transmission and others is unique to competition cars such as the Vulcan or the Zonda R (you can look for it in any video and it will be heard from outside.) The problem comes when you do this in all vehicles : In the chiron it looks good because of that car what sounds the most are the 4 turbos, both when it accelerates and when it stops, but in most vehicles the transmission does not sound, turbos etc etc, except the supercharger (hellcat among others. ) The index of improvement is there but like i say it, it' s not that great or good.
Could be my ears adjusting to the spatial/raytraced audio, but the engine noises seem more quiet and less pronounced compared to FH4 in the overall audio mix. That said they are greatly improved, and I’m hoping when I get my hands on it that I’m blown away.
I think with Fh4 the sound of the car is directed right towards you but in fh5 it’s more like the camera is actually behind the car and you’re hearing the car from where it is if that makes sense,
Because in 4 they all sound like they were recorded in a box and fed directly into your ears. In 5 the cars actually sound like they are in an open environment. Its a massive upgrade.
In my honest opinion I think they sound slightly worse because the gearbox overshadows the engine note far too much for third person. Some of the engine sounds are certainly better like the setso, GT2 RS and the mosler but the F1 was perfect in FH4 imo and was probably the only car they truly nailed but I think it got a huge downgrade in FH5
@@dairemccormack8205 upgrade the exhaust on the C7 Z06 in fh5 and it sounds like a fat guy having explosive diarrhea through a cardboard tube. It becomes undriveable, only took me 30 min to get tired of the gamesound and start to get a headache so had to turn it off, and I have never had a problem playing horizon 2-4 or Motorsport 5-7 for hours on end with loud volume. Oh and cars now drive even more like they do in the crew and need for speed...
@@dairemccormack8205 yeah I'm kinda pissed haha, but I reckon they will fix the shifting issue asap and maybe do some tweaking with the sound, but there sure are a lot more cool roads in the game so its definitely not all bad
@@Ribeiros360 ok I understand you're argument but with some vehicles it would be almost impossible to get the actual vehicle for the audio but at least I see that you are actually a car lover and not just commenting due to hate.
I totally agree with this. The car sounds in this fh5 are better than fh4; it seems like every car or engine sounds unique, but I don’t think they’re close to real life. I really don’t know which I care about more honestly. If it feels engaging while playing the game I don’t think I’d care. but I’d like the car to sound like an aventador if I’m driving an aventador.
@@---eo2vt never saw a big problem with each game. Care to give examples? Kinda hard to see what's wrong with it when you just say "the game itself/features "
For real, I'm not one to notice many graphical improvements but I can tell that the game looks better than fh4. I think a lot of it is the lighting and textures
And the best part? We aren’t even on the new ForzaTech engine yet. FH5’s engine is basically polished up from FH4. Horizon 6 will look even better as it’ll be on the new engine Turn 10 has made for Motorsport 8 with some tweaks for Horizon and also improvements
@@jmccann6735 With Forza Horizon 4 selling like hot cakes and the fact Turn 10 is responsible for the game engine, Microsoft will definitely pump some money into the effort
As brilliant as you always make your videos, please don't flat shift for car sound videos. It will sound so much better semi-auto than flat shifting with the clutch
1:32 That downshift sounds so satisfying. Although i REALLY dislike that metallic hum that increases in pitch along with speed, it's like we're back to NFS:Most Wanted 2012
I like how they’re trying to change the engines to sound somewhat more “realistic”, but now they seem to be too quiet overall and on top of that, there’s so much wind/turbo noise which I can see getting obnoxious to listen to. Hard to say what the engine upgrades will do to change this, but I hope it’ll make a good enough difference. Also idk if it’s just me, but some cars in FH4 REALLY have a much louder roaring sound to them the faster you go unlike most in FH5. Other than that, the cars and map look amazing to me!!
dont worry dude, sounds are gonna sound way better when you play the game yourself, cause youtube compresses sound and all that. plus, its a preview build so things will change for the better
Porsche 911 GT2 RS actually made me turn my head to see if there was in fact a Porsche on screen, in FH5 it really does sound like one which I think is awesome. Not a huge fan of the huge amounts of whine that a lot of these cars have now tho.
Don! please excuse my loud behavior, but I really wish you could make a video about the classic muscle cars in the game. No one has made a proper video about them yet.
I don’t know if it’s only me but I feel like for many of the cars they made them a lot quieter in their exhaust Note and instead put a general whine to most of the cars. I don’t know but I feel like it’s a little weird in FH5.
@@lukeson8934 the sounds calm down a bit in the interior but I didn't find the race narrator annoying But man, that game had amazing attention to detail.a truly underrated gem of a game

Not going to lie i’m pretty dissapointed with some of the sounds in this video. I record cars in my spare time (have done for over 10 years now) and i’d love to be in contact with Playground Games and help them improve the car sounds as a (Autistic) Car guy who knows off by heart and has heard every car in person 👍🏼 I’d make sure the car sounds were spot on. idk about the sounds honestly… the FH4 engines were louder and more „screaming“ into your face. so far, most FH5 sounds i heard i liked the FH4 versions better. the new sounds are to quiet
the Lambo Sesto Elemento is the opposite way! FH4 is quiter and FH5 screams more, that one i like 5:23

12:31 most ferrari engines in FH5 sound horrible… FH4: screaming engine, FH5: swarm of bees again :(
Looks like people are starting to notice the new sounds are not all that great. They really had us going with those cherry picked sounds they first showed off.
Absolutely correct, I just cannot get my words right with the sound. But thanks to you bro. They are just not accurate.
Yeah thanks to the new European Noise Regulations
I can tell because even in his Horizon 4 clips it’s doing that
@@kaitia3538 oh yeah? I thought I've seen that in every Horizon 5 video. I'll have to take a look.
Don’t know if it’s the game or your audio settings but they sound so much louder in horizon 5 and I love it!
Is it just me or do some of the sounds, like the Centenario and Divo sound similar but they've just 'toned down' the sound a bit? Idk but for those 2 cars in particular it still doesn't give the same aggressive sounds the real cars make. Just my thoughts.

@@rohanalias9053 my god i remember, as much as a love that game, man the sound got annoying, also could the race narrator shut tf up?!
Is it that the cars are upgraded? Or do they sound like this stock :/ that would be wrong
@@lukeson8934 the sounds calm down a bit in the interior but I didn't find the race narrator annoying
But man, that game had amazing attention to detail.a truly underrated gem of a game
@@rohanalias9053 shame how much people thought the handling was bad and the game was "boring". it wasnt that bad.
Your videos are premium quality, i should pay for this!
Is it just me or does the v10s and 12s sound less brutal now?
I love this comparing concept and I would like to propose something : what if you made a really similar video with rally/dirt cars ? It would be insane
to be honest, many cars in Horizon 5 sound like there is actually something broken inside the engine, too much rattle. I would be concerned, if I'm driving this...
(the high-frequence sounds are too dominating!)
It's probably the upgraded race transmission, sounds like it has straight cut gears which are known for being whiney and loud
Great Video...
I feel like a lot of the cars in FH5 sound similar, have the same underlying tone and lack emotion
Daaamn, Can't wait but unfortunately I still won't be able to play because no internet & $$$. Hopefully everyone has fun on fh5. Awesome Video!!!
