    If a child is at a non-child friendly drag show, that’s on the parents, not the queens/kings. As Lady Gaga once said “Who tf hears the words Lady Gaga and Las Vegas and thinks ‘I’m bringing my kids!’“ like seriously, if you bring your kids to an adult drag show, the queens/kings aren’t going to change the performance to be more child friendly

    • @hannarivers5872
      @hannarivers5872 2 years ago +44

      they shouldn't change the performance but they shouldn't let the kids in

    • @ElizabethGeis
      @ElizabethGeis 2 years ago +389

      @hannarivers5872 that isn't their responsibility. they have so much going on with the show, kids coming is on the parents and no one else. and if kids do get in, it's out of their control

    I’m a Christian and before I was saved I would use my fake ID to go to drag bars bc it was safer to go there and have fun than to go to normal bars. After I got saved I was still an ally. Going to drag shows and having friendships with queens make me feel so happy for many reasons but my favorite is that I genuinely feel celebrated in womanhood. I didn’t have a mom growing up queens taught me everything I know. I’m forever grateful they exist.

      So true. I had a horrible time as a kid in church as well. Protestants claim to be so much more progressive compared to catholics but it was a protestant church we had a pastor being physically violent against "misbehaving" children, (He was moved after the second incident he hit a child as a form of punishment.) and a Sexton preying on underage girls. Lovely people these are...

    I actually went to church where they had “drag Easter” because it was also transgender day of visibility. They had a really lovely drag queen who read a story to the kids, everyone came in drag, and our pastor talked about his journey of coming out as trans. My cousin got up during the sharing part and talked about how glad they were to feel safe, and I got to play around with masculine gender expression and found I had a lot of fun with it. I wish that church wasn’t two hours away from me because it’s one of the few places I still feel respected after leaving my really nice church when I moved.

      Not all clowns are appropriate for children (like horror ones).
      Not all circuses are appropriate for children.
      Not all movies are appropriate for children.
      Not all concerts are appropriate for children.
      Not all spectator sports are appropriate for children (especially ones with swearing and violence).
      Not all religious services are appropriate for children.
      Not all drag shows are appropriate for children.

      As someone with extensive religious trauma, I actually found a lot of comfort in drag queens, and the art of drag in general. The idea that someone was out there who could make a complete farce all while looking stunning, and lip-synching to some of my favourite songs. It was so comforting and got me through tough times, where, conveniently enough my religious trauma over took my life.

      To play Devil's Advocate here, the Church teaches that women's bodies are shameful and partially caused the downfall of Mankind. It's easy to see why they have a problem with the 'female' form. Such religious beliefs are just a form of PTSD, IMHO. 🖤

      @ireliyuhh I think most parents expect family friendly drag shows to be just like you described, more classy and composed. The issue is with the Queens themselves that don't understand or care what makes a performance "family friendly." They're doing a great disservice to Drag Queens in general, who in my experience have been some of the warmest & funniest people to be around.

    • @ireliyuhh
      @ireliyuhh 3 years ago +94

      @Stephanie Mitchell yeah I think when it comes to those kinds of things its mostly a production issue because it's the job of whoever is producing the show to make sure the queen knows or has an idea of what Child friendly is supposed to be for them. You go to Hooters when you wanna go to a titty bar but you can't afford it/wanna watch sports too. Neither of these activities are best enjoyed with kids that get bored and run around.

    it’s the way drag queens actually helped me embrace my femininity instead of hating it?? like i grew up in an environment where being feminine was “embarrassing” but after finding drag and watching trixie over the years, i’ve came to really love how feminine i am

      This is how I feel about trans women. No one made me want to embrace my femininity and made me feel powerful in it until I saw a few trans women truly shine in their truth. I didn't realize how much shame I actually had about being female before then.

      As a guy I've seen the way women truly view/ treat feminine men. They don't want them or just use them for entertainment/ as an extra one of the girls. Fortunately I wasn't raised to be feminine but not being raised to be masculine has caused me so much struggle which I've spent ages having to work on. I wouldn't let my future son go through that.

    • @Alice-gr1kb
      @Alice-gr1kb 3 years ago +2

      @rc70883 very clear from the number of transphobes who think that all of us trans women wear pounds of makeup daily and that we’re all in wigs. I’m sure some trans women do do that (which is perfectly normal to do? Idk why people act like that’s so bad), but also some of us wear little or don’t wear any makeup (I’m clueless about makeup so I dont wear any). Idk it’s crazy they act like all of us trans people constantly look like we’re heading to the club, when in reality we dress any way cis people do. I’m certian these people have seen a trans person before in like the grocery store or something and not known.

    • @notnormalyet
      @notnormalyet 3 years ago +2

      @Alice-gr1kb The book Whipping Girl makes an interesting point about this. The author argues that the reason the media tends to focus on hyper-feminine trans women and the process of putting on makeup and wigs is to reinforce the sexist idea that men and women are fundamentally different. By focusing on these things, they push the idea that you cant be a "real" woman or be seen as a woman unless you are performing femininity to a stereotypical extreme. And in order for trans women to be women, they have to cover up anything masculine (because "real" women aren't masculine).

    It's obvious that drag is just a place holder for what they really wanna say: all queer people. But they know if they just say "gay people are predators" and "gay people are against gods design" more of their audience will correctly perceive it as hate, so they use this as a cover. Their enemy is not drag, what they truly want to destroy is gay rights, Trans rights and liberation.

    • @KristiLEvans1
      @KristiLEvans1 3 years ago

      No. As a Christian, I can say that that is a leap and a stereotype of Christianity. The vast, vast majority of lay (well, and not-lay, these days) Christians, do not think like that. That’s an overgeneralization that’s taught in order to engender hate. Just as, on the other side, we sometimes hear, “all queer/gay/trans people are, or want to groom your kids!” Hysteria and over-blowing the fringe on both sides, is no help.

      A lot of slav girls have big boobs and big butts, so it's extremely weird to me that such features would suddenly be associated with black girls... I bet Latina women often have that kind of figure as well...

      They now want us to say: person with a uterus!!
      I am a women!!!
      How can that new term be described as anything other than s€×ist?!!
      It literally means a person who can give birth!!
      They are saying that is our only defining feature!!!
      How is that not s€×ist?!!
      And guess why they want us to say that.
      So that we can be more inclusive to MEN who identify as women!!!
      Yeah, nah!!!
      I am never saying that!!!
      I am a woman!!!
      And if you have any pride as a woman, then quit defending these men!!

Instead of educating themselves & sitting down with someone who expresses themselves in a different way... let's just throw the Bible & their sad opinions around, they might come to find, that those people are the most realist & big hearted people they will ever meet!

      They are letting people exist. What are you even talking about? It's called having a different opinion. If they don't want them to exist, then they would be advocating for their eradication. You can wildly disagree but don't talk such nonsense.
