    There's no suburban area because suburban areas are dead and over. The massive storms due to the failing earth climate wiped those out. Anyone who had the luxury to live in suburban areas is now packed in megabuildings.

      Don't forget the political factors. Night City is a Free City, an independent city state. Not much point in living beyond the city limits if there's a chance you'll be held up by border control and get fired.

    Where are the Suburbs? they where striped down to the bedrock after they where abandoned during the time of the Red, following the 4th Corporate War (21 Nov 2021- Nov or Dec 2022) when Johnny Silverhand lead US Government forces to hand carry an Enhanced Nuclear Device in to Arasaka Americas HQ in Night City.

"Manila" or officially the City of Manila is just a part of a region in the Philippines called "Metro Manila" or officially called National Capital Region which includes neighboring cities around the City of Manila. The "map" you showed is Metro Manila, which correct. But the size you mentioned is just the size of the City of Manila. Metro Manila is 239.2 mi². City of Manila is 16.56mi².

    A missed opportunity not to mention Morro Bay, the actual town which Night City is supposed to be originally (Morro Bay area was bought and redeveloped into Coronado City, later renamed Night City). Real life Morro Bay has 5.33 sq mi of land, housing 10,757 people in 2020, 1k per sq mi. Los Osos, a town south across the bay, is 12.763 sq mi housing 14,276 people, and together they make for around 10 sq mi, and 15.92 sq mi if we include the large body of water between them, on which portion of Night City was supposedly built.
    This means that the size of Night City is double that of the real life area, even though if we overlay real life map and CP77 maps (using Morro Rock as a guide), Night City just barely covers the whole of Morro Bay. The dam of NC would go right through the Morro Bay State Park. The distance between closest part of Los Osos (Baywood) and where the southern part of NC's Heywood should be is 2 miles. Night City is twice the size of the real life area on paper, but in practice the world we explore there is half the size of reality.
    Funnily enough, there is another real life Californian city called Coronado, in San Diego. It has a land size of 7.80 sq mi and total area of 32.50 sq mi, and population of 20,192 people.

  • @mlc4495
    @mlc4495 3 года назад +2

    I realize it'd be massively expensive and hell to develop but just once I'd love to play an open world adventure game that is actually scaled and sized appropriately like in the real world. For example in Horizon: Zero Dawn you can literally run for a few minutes between Colorado Springs and Denver. Now I'm not asking for a game that takes you over an hour in driving time between those two locations (that'd take fucking forever to develop) but something a bit more realistic would be nice.

      I think the closest thing to what you want is the USA map in The Crew 2.

    • @azaria_phd
      @azaria_phd 3 года назад

      Actually, real-life sized cities are not that hard to develop, you just need some procedurally generated magic. It's not done because nobody actually wants it, think about it:
      - A massive map means you'd take half an hour to move between places that are "near" in real life.
      - Just like in real life, most buildings would be boring and generic. People expect every other building to have something to play with. In real life if you want to go from the library to your college, you'll probably walk by 50 similar residential buildings, and 30 offices, none of them with anything interesting to play with. People would instantly brand the game as empty or boring because there's no an exclusive unique mission in every of the thousands of filler buildings.
      - Assuming procedural generation is used internally to aid development (and not an actual game mechanic), the game could easily weight 300 Gb or more, while adding not that much.
      That said, I'd also love to play a game like Cyberpunk in a city as big as San Francisco.

    American cities are actually very sparse with low density. You take any district from a dense Asian city from China and India, and you can put millions in a very small area. The sprawling is also a very American thing as Asian cities tend to build close and build up, not sprawl out in huge suburbs. Night City is definitely possible, jsut maybe not in current America. In cyberpunk America where the country is fragmented and land become less easily accessible, I can see that happening.

    Most game condense the distances. Fallout 4 condensed it 4:1. I would say Night City is like half that at about 2:1. When calculating square miles though that would make it closer to 120 miles square and a far lower density. Traffic and foot density should be a bit higher, but the game is already pushing the boundaries of the average gaming computer pretty hard. It might even be close to Fallout 4 than I thought at 4:1 size.

    Thing is that Night City can't have suburbs because of how unsafe it is. The NCPD is stretched too thin to have a more massive area to protect.

    75km^2??Nahh excluding out of bounds playable map size is 50km^2 at most and only 15-16km^2 of that is Night City.
    I just hate the fact how much exaggrated map sizes of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk are.

    What the area of Night City doesn't tell you is how vertical the environment is. Its footprint might not be too huge, but it has many levels to it that multiply that area.

    It's more like 15-16km^2 at most lol,5.5km from North to South and 3.5km from West to East entrace.Pretty much the same size as LS from GTA5 but a denser version.

    “How realistic is Night City?”
    How about a man in a wheelchair get up from being scared and running off supposedly “disabled”
