I remember watching this video when you put it out but I had no context at the time. Since then I have purchased a Music Man JP16, which is loaded with Sonic Ecstasy pickups. I am really liking them. So much so that I bought the bridge model for my Sterling JP160. I have been using the Seymour Duncan PATB-2b Parallel Axis Distortion in all my guitars for years. Once I got the JP16 I liked the warmth and rich harmonic content of the DiMarzio. I guess it showed me that I could get the harmonic content I was after without having to have a super high output pickup.
Did U get the the bottom of that chirp I reckon it was the bridge either the springs or the action at the saddles too low since it was only with palm mute pressure on the bridge. I have had similar noise issues with the hipshot us contour I had to have action higher and put my hand closer back towards the bridge than I normally would when palm muting
I think sometimes having tons of gain and or volume causes some weird RF, MF, or IF feedback loop where changing the pickups changed the shielding or impedance just enough to cross the feedback threshold?
Someone mentioned, but I had that chirp coming from the overall resonance I believe, so I started putting dampeners everywhere and it worked. Tremolo springs, the strings above the nut as well. Check for feedback as well, move farther from the amp to see if it improves
I would suggest not monitoring on In Ears and instead use FRFR monitor speakers because you can hear the difference especially if you get ones with ribbon tweeters. I heard no chirp using Quad Capture into Behringer Truth B3030A speakers.
In my experience the Sonic Ecstasy's seem to have a grittier harsher sound. Could simply come down to the EQ and how the higher output of the SE's play with the distortion but I find myself preferring the sound of my Dreamcatcher/Rainmaker combo.
I hear that “chirp” sound. It really sounds like a string buzz picked up. You said you don’t hear it unplugged, however, are you sure you picked with the same force when you did the test? How was the no-battery test result to exclude a piezo bleed through?
Kilroy 99 Thats my secret! I put 3mm round rubber strips in all my trem springs and leave enough length to tuck it under the spring claw and the opposit end so it wont wiggle out. I never have noise issues. Also I agree with what someone suggested different types of guitar pick material.
The click sounds like the strings are coming into contact with a pole piece or fret. I thought you were crazy at first but the sound is definitely there.
It sounded to me dreamcatcher rainmaker without distortion had a fuller deeper sound compared to the sonic …. But I couldn’t hear much of a difference on the pedal …. It would be interesting to hear them on a fuzz factory pedal compared to leviathan pedal nothing against the pedal cause it’s killer but maybe there might be a difference….. I have been interested in dropping new pickups in my 7 string so ty for the video
Hey Jared I noticed you were damping the strings at the head stock on the music man but not the Kissel. Also see if your put some foam on the spring of the bridge maybe you need coated silence springs in the Aries
First off the Sonic Ecstasy pups are more natural open sounding in comparison and I love them as well and as why they are loaded in the top model JP Monarchy. CHIRP 1) check the batteries are fresh in the Kiesel. 2) Try a dab of "nut sauce" under the strings at the nut. 3) If the "chirp" persists...IMO call Ernie Ball and get the specs on the Majesty Monarchy volume and tone "pots values" and capacitor(s) value. Ie: 250K or 500K pots. .022 uF capacitor...or relevant value. Then compare the values of these electronics in the Kiesel. Change out whatever component in the Kiesel that's different to match the Monarchy. If the pots and the capacitor are identical guitar to guitar...then look at the chirp coming from the transference of the tremolo. I had a bad chirp squeek sound when I got my new Monarchy Majesty I thought was from the tremolo....and found the nut sauce on the nut cleared it up. Cheers brother.
The DC and RM have more low end and sound fuller compared to the Ecstacy but I honestly could play both cause its not an issue of which one is better cause they both sound good.
I had that kind of chirp before and when I played in a different room with less electrical magnetic frequencies it did not do it as much. So I just play that guitar in that room now lol. Never explored it further. I would guess pickup shielding might help but just a guess. Maybe ur EBMMs have different shielding.
Hey bud I can't hear the chirp on my end but I can hear that weird distorted static sound whenever you are palm muting while chugging, you know the same sound you heard with that joyo amp,I can hear that noise through everything you play including every amp and every guitar no matter what.i wish you could fix that because it ruins the clarity of your palm muted chuggs and I can't believe that you can't hear it and it's been driving me crazy 🤣
I think you are probably right assuming the chirp is an electronic problem, could be a pot or switch too. Or a bad wire? Could be a number of things. Hope you get it sorted out. See ya tonight bro on the live stream with Kari
Not a bad idea removing the battery from the Keisel...however if I'm right you will only be able to test the pickups in passive mode...as the battery is also needed for the active side of the pups and piezo. I'd still do the nut sauce dab under the strings at the nut....cheap and no harm done. Works wonders for unwanted string noise.
I see already I am just adding more suggestions on top of 20 others. I have Mayones duvell 6. It was making an annoying chirp or high pitch sound. could have been the springs, the strings from the headstock, or the Floyd bridge itself. I put tape over the strings above the nut, ordered so-called "noiseless" springs, and had the bridge looked at. Nothing helped. A friend told me to record myself playing anything then pull up an EQ and see if I could find that noise and pull it out. And I did. so it was something electronic that the recording picked up. It was the treble bleed that was loose or just not soldered very well. Issue fixed. Nothing is more frustrating than paying 4k for a guitar you can't stand to play. I hope you find the issue. Good luck my friend.
Got a blackened DiMarzio Dreamcatcher that replaced my emg81 on my LTD M Arctic Winter. Dreamcatcher is medium output but aggressive in the attack. Haven’t looked back 🔥
Hey, I got EMG 81s in both my M1000ht and my M1007ht. I noticed that the M Arctic Winter has an Alder body as well. How would you compare the 81 and the Dreamcatcher, for heavy rhythm purposes ? Thanks !
@@Kierranh2704 well I have the 6 string version and personally I am not one for tonewood BUT I will say I have done home recording demos of when I had it with the 81 and then after with the Dreamcatcher. With the 81 yes it was tighter and had this bite at about 1-2K that really pronounced the high mids in a very Thrash Metal way. If you have heard Testament’s Titans of Creation album, right off the bat I can tell this was an 81 equipped guitar record from the tones I produced at home if you get what I’m saying. I loved how the cleans are chime-like and bright like what you hear on clean passages on Immortal - Ravendark 2018 song for example. It’s almost 80s bright. No body but cool with effects like chorus. / the Dreamcatcher I like more because it’s more body and warmer that allows me to sculpt to my likings vs the 81 is more ready to go if that makes sense? More low mids and it’s a medium output pickup which allows me to get away with more distortion without sounding hairy. The cleans are fuller and darker than the 81 which is a comfort for my playing as I am not standing out too much in my demo mixes. Obviously you can listen to the last Dream Theater album to get an idea of how the Dreamcatcher is and you can compare the dynamics and tone to the Teatament record even though they’re using EVH amps vs JP2C heads. I hope this helps. They both got their strengths and right now I like the strengths of the passive pickup. Yet if I get another LTD MHT I’ll probably leave the emg on it whenever I have that active itch. \m/
To my ears, the Sonic Ecstasy are a bit more clear than the Dreamcatcher/Rainmaker combo. The "chirp" sounds like the D/R pickup is picking up too much pick attack. Just switch all your guitars to the Sonic Ecstasy. I did that with EMG-81x's. Every other pickup I try just doesn't sound right. The EMG-81x makes every one of my guitars, give me the tone I'm looking for at it's starting point: guitar/pickups. I recently tried a DiMarzio Deactivator 7 in my 7-string Ibanez. I could never get my sound with it. As soon as I changed to an EMG-81-7x, the guitar just came alive! Trust your instincts. You know your sound.
I have the Rainmaker Dreamcatcher set in my Kiesel Vanquish! Air Norton Steve's Special set in my DC. I'm looking to put the Sonic Ecstasy pups in a future build. Liquifire Crunch Lab set is going in my Aries soon 🤘
Chirp!! Hope that helps lol I'm with everyone else. I'd guess something in the wiring is maybe shorting out or something possibly a pinched wire? Don't know just guessing.
I’m hearing some noise with the Dreamcatcher set but the Sonic Ecstasy’s seem to clean it up. Ground noise maybe? There also seems to be a lot more boomy low end on the Dreamcatcher. I’d say stick with Sonic Ecstasy. Thanks for the video, Jarrod!!
Funny, I hadn’t finished the video yet before responding but you mentioned the Sonic Ecstasy’s having more low end. Maybe it was just my listening environment. Also, I only really noticed it on the clean tones.
I think you're bat-shit crazy!! I hear ZERO chirp, chirp, effing chirp!! 😂But I do hear a bit of a "click' when you pick on the Kiesel vs the EBMM. I think it's gonna boil down to the woods, the bridge and the all around construction. By the way...I may have said this before but between the D-catchers and the Sonic Ecstasy Pups....there's probably NOT gonna be much of a departure in voicing from each other because like you said, and I agree....not much of a noticeable tonal difference that I can hear.
F*ck that guitar!! sell it and get a KSR pa50 power amp so you can do that demo with the Kemper and do a shoot-out between the ksr and the synergy lol!
The dreamcatcher and rainmaker seems to have a fuller sound.
The ticking sound? I hear it. Does it do it acoustically with the guitar unplugged?
It only happens when it's plugged in

The ecstasy is clearer under the most gain. However the character of the dreamcatcher while chugging makes a more pleasing chug to me.
I always get chirps with different pick types. Active pickups do not pick it up as much as Passive do for some reason.
Dunlop Maxgrip .73 picks are what I use. I had another brand .73 and they made a chirp glassy sound when chugging. So I agree try another pic.

As soon as I pulled the battery out, the chirp went away. The guitar is back at Kiesel right now getting fixed.
It was the piezo bleeding thru
I had a slight chirp with my Kiesel. I got rid of it by using a fret wrap and putting rubber tubes inside the tremolo springs.

I did that a long time ago but now use the Purple higher-tension springs that have a coating on them.
