The trainers care about them but management sees only dollar signs. Seeing that wild orcas live twice as long in the wild then those kept by sea world I would say they are doing more harm then good.
“Orca Encounter” my ass. They didn’t change anything other than the fact that these trainers won’t be getting in the water and they’re talking more about the orcas rather than showing off. But yet, they’re still making these smart creatures perform for food. Sea world is a sick place and hasn’t learned. They’re only adapting bc they still want money.

Orcas belong in the oceans. The ones that are bred in the parks need to stay there until they pass away. This is because they would not survive in the wild as they were not born there with a family and pod. They are in captivity and made to rely on humans. They should not be used as a money grab for greedy people. They should not be put in shows. Trainers should not be in the water with them, they should be behind plexi glass partitions, just like the public who visit them are. This is cruelty to the max and in humane. I personally believe it is the worst kind of abuse an animal can have. Years ago they wanted to capture 5hem to study them. They have already learned what they have needed to to understand these animals. Listen to the scientists and biologists who are the experts, not the the Sea World people. They may know their orcas and how to train them, but most of the trainers don’t even know the orcas they are working withs background of “mistakes” or “mishaps” or “attacks”. Orcas do not make mistakes, they are more intelligent then us. Every move they make is well thought out. Let them alone and leave them in peace.

Please do not support the captivity of orcas. I know you all love these magnificent animals, but unfortunately it is NOT in their best interest to live in captivity. Of course setting the orcas free is not a solution because obviously they cannot survive. But that is not an argument to keep breeding with orcas and using them for our own fun and entertainment. They do NOT love their trainers, they love to get food from them. Captive orcas suffer immensely.

Christian Banuelos because orcas in the wild have huge ranges, complex social groups, and travel for hundreds upon hundreds of miles. THESE orcas are from different groups, speak different languages, and they’re kept in small tanks.
That’s like asking “how is it torture to keep a human in a jail cell and make him perform for food? He’s being fed, right?” Sure he’s alive but he’s going insane.

Just a reminder to all the Blackfish commenters is that SeaWorld has about 20 orcas in captivity at this moment and only 3 or 4 were wild caught. They have also phased out there breeding program meaning Amaya, who is gonna be 6 this year, is the last orca SeaWorld will probably welcome to their parks

She's a first gen, Orkid is also up in age. you can believe what you think. but I have been apart of the aquarium in the street I have work with pinnipeds and cetaceans and I know what goes on behind-the-scenes I also know , a lot has changed in the past 40 years. meanwhile you look at the wild what is like what's 70 maybe less of the southern residence and the wild is just looking horrible everyday there's literally a decimation of resident orcas because no Chinook salmon. and then don't get me started on the whale watching boats which are not only causing noise pollution but also following the whales. and also how the wild population is actually inbred you can trace back to J1 and L41 theres a lot of inbreeding when there's only 3 cases in SeaWorld. Trust me I've done research on both sides I've read death at SeaWorld watched blackfish etc. but in the end it's the industry that works to rescue animals that will outdo those who are activists and will not do anything except protest and not help the ones that are actually in need For example the Salish sea orcas or for example the animals which are stranded and need and can have a 2nd Chance at life instead of death on a beach.
This just makes me want to cry. Having them describe how intelligent, individual and social they are. How vast and interesting their original environment was. Now they are forced to perform for their captors to survive. It's tragic and horrific.

To be fair, a lot of the trainers are hidden from all of the accidents that happen, they don’t get a lot of inside information. Yes this is wrong I agree, but watch blackfish, I know it’s on Amazon and Hulu. When they’re interviewing the trainers it shows how much they weren’t told. How much was hidden from them. The trainers were lied to about facts and information.

As an active duty Soldier Sea world allows us free admission and I’ve never stepped foot in their park for this exact reason! All captive adult male orcas have collapsed dorsal fins, likely because they have no space in which to swim freely and are fed an unnatural diet of thawed dead fish. SeaWorld claims that this condition is common-however, in the wild, it rarely ever happens and is a sign of an injured or unhealthy orca
It’s none of those reasons at all. The fin is collapsed because they spend a lot of time at the surface with their trainers so since it has no bone, it flips over as time passes

Listen what Sea World have done in the past is wrong. But you can't change what happened these whale had either born or live in captivity for majority of their lifetime therefore it's almost impossible to release them as they lost their knowledge of how to survive. In fact we should be encouraging Sea World for what they're doing they are very passionate about saving animals. And I think we should be very appropriate for what they're doing.
ZHONNEY 8 everybody understands that. You’re missing the point by a long mile. People who are against seaworld and are fighting against them are fighting against the way they are treated NOW. People want their suffering to stop. We want them to live a happy life in the best circumstances we can give them. Seaworld is a shit excuse of a happy existence. They are forced to perform and if they do not they are refused food. They grind their teeth on the concrete of their enclosures because of boredom. Other wales rank their teeth against the wales they are enclosed with due to the fact they are not their family, orcas never leave their families EVER in their entire lives in the wild.
People who fight against seaworld and other marine parks, Zoos, circuses and anything else of the kind, are trying to get people to stop supporting them. Stop paying these companies to abuse and use animals. Put your money towards rescues, sanctuaries, non profit organisations to help and protect reserve and nurture these beautiful creatures. They are not for your entertainment and just because places like sea world exists doesn’t mean it’s right. Put you’re money where your mouth is and be on the right side of history.
ZHONNEY 8 also, if everyone stops supporting seaworld and other marine parks of the kind, they will be forced to hand over their animals to sanctuaries and other places in which care for animals that can’t be rehabilitated. Just because you see something as beneficial and are being spoon fed like a helpless infant the information seaworld (a multi million dollar industry) tell you then you have clearly done none of your own research on the matter and should not be spreading misinformation. Of course seaworld wants you to think that they help and nurture their animals. THEY WANT YOUR MONEY! Wake up, do your research and figure out which side of the coin you are.

This show is amazing but I do feel bad for the whales the fins are bent which means they don’t have enough room to swim an they aren’t happy or healthy :( it is cool to see them do tricks but I know they would rather not be in Captivity.

I went to Sea World with my family when I was a little girl. Knowing and understanding more about captivity as an adult, I cannot support Sea World. Orcas are beautiful and belong in the ocean where God put them.
There probably not going to tell why Thier dorsals bend which in the wild it's very rare for bent dorsals.

@cristina Banuelos Black fish is very misleading. I don't know why people believe things like that with out really looking into it first.
I have been there a lot and have been back stage often. If people could see the TRAINERS and whales together they could not just see the love but also the respect. When Dawn was killed all of the haters came out of the woodwork. Dawn loved all of the whales she worked with. If you never have seen her with them look her up. The look or her face was pure love and joy. If they where being mistreated she would have been the 1st to raise the alarm.
I watched the whales after the show and watched a mom and baby play. Baby did what mom did. No one was forcing them. The baby swam up and kissed its mom. So sweet. I was blessed to be there that day to witness that love between a mom and baby.
@cristina Banuelos I have only heard what the news put out. I know things went horribly wrong. For the life of me I can't understand why the attack. I know he wasn't feeling well and he had been off during an earlier show. I swear when you watched Dawn with any of the whales you could see the love and joy on her face You might think I'm crazy but it looked like the whales smiled too.
I'm happy I wasn't there to see it.

The trainers were all kind people who cared deeply for the whales but whales are not meant to be in captivity. They are huge animals who deserve to swim for miles not in circles in a tiny pool. It's a very stressful environment that triggers violent behavior.

Yes it is. During the show they were talking about how they live in their pods and how they take care of each other. They were also talking about how they hunt and how they use their body features.

@@barneyandthewiggles why can't someone record the entire show and play it non-stop for those that want to "educate" themselves. Its the exact same show (with stunts) so you can put it on repeat for the public to see. What difference does it make to see in-person if its purely for educational purposes? It's because they want to exploit these apex predators to profit off them for your guys' entertainment. It has become so normal that people are desensitized to the cruelty of captivity.

Because it is a type C orca species, they live in the Antarctic and the diatom change there color. They're still white underneath they're just a different species all together

They quit breeding and animals that have been exposed to contact and are used to seeing people and reactions get depressed when they arnt. Zoos had animals very depressed when they closed to public. And these Orcas are smart, but they probably wouldn’t know why all of a sudden people quit coming to visit them. These are the last generation born in captivity. Can’t release them because to dangerous for them. But Honestly they do need to expand the tanks.

Christian Banuelos it’s actually because of them being stuck in captivity- Most captive male killer whales, and some females, have a dorsal fin that is partially or completely collapsed to one side. ... Collapsed or collapsing dorsal fins are rare in most wild populations and usually result from a serious injury to the fin, such as from being shot or colliding with a vessel.
Seaworld just normally likes to lie about these types of situations to make it sound like this Orcas enjoy it there.
They did not learn, that sad that the orcas remain captive that they do not understand that they are aggressive animals and need to be in their room, to be free
