What a great episode, Joe! It’s always a joy to see you and your programs, and how wonderful to follow you through your day. Something I’ve been meaning to throw out there: you often ask your followers for ideas, or things we’d like to learn about. Well, I’d love to see something (show or podcast) about the plants/seeds these days that have been treated with systemic pesticides. I’m raising honeybees now and am worried that the plants I buy early in the season may be harmful to them and other beneficials. I remember a few years back the big box stores had tags referencing this but I haven’t seen anything on tags for some time now, but the few Japanese beetles that I found on my plants this year and last, were all dead.

Everyone I know that planted basil this year had bountiful crops. I can’t give it away. How did those 72 plants work for you?😂😂😂 I am anxious to hear how the tomatoes in straw bales produced compared to the ones in raised beds. Thanks. As always, an excellent show.
I have been gardening and have compost bins for years. I think one ingredient to the compost bin should have minimal use is grass clippings. The reason is simple, your lawn should be an extension from your garden. My opinion is you should mulch you grass clippings every time you mow so you put back nutrients to your lawn thus you fertilize less .There are so many other ingredients for compost for your garden. Help nature out by fertilizing less!
WOW GREAT episode Joe.Do you have the same problem as me.The work is done time to sit have a cup of coffee.Then oh wait there is a weed,prune a branch from one of the veggies.My favorite is I always find garlicscapes when I sit down still need to be picked.But it is still fun.I end up doing like you sit down with my coffee at my communitygarden.On the weekend and in the summer when on vacation for a month from job.I can be there 12 hours.It is peaceful to me.Joe were do you get those square pots that you put the tomato suckers in.How deep are they.
I’d love to try this to help minimize disease. Just curious if that thin piece of wood on top was strong enough to support all those cucumber plants when loaded with fruit in the middle of summer?

It’s better to start indoors so as to control germination temperature, water, and nutrients. Although technically it’s possible to direct sow, this is likely the most popular lettuce amongst growers who sell at farmers markets. I expect that only a few of them direct sow.
You've made quite the investment in the structures, raised beds etc. It looks amazing. For me though, in retirement, I have to use what I can get my hands on at a most economical way. I picked up free wood, hammered it in to raise up the sides of my "no dig" so that I can add more to raise the soil level ( erosion did the area in years ago). So my problem is a lack of all day Sun, the no dig gets a tad more than four hours. So what do you suggest to grow that does not absolutely need full Sun? It's so troubling, I have gotten suggestions. I'm even mulling over removing some trees and shrubs that line up property, to let in more Sun. I have to figure that one out. But I do need to plant in order to eat well. Food costs too much to not make the effort. I love your garden plan but I need some more practical suggestions or references to ponder.
Joe, you said your compost bins are made of untreated wood pallets. Does that mean not treated with chemicals? I think in the past you've said heat treated is OK.
