On paper, the idea of a origin story for Kermit's childhood years in the swamp actually sounds kinda fun after seeing the opening of The Muppet Movie, but the execution is just a mess. I blame it on the script and Sony not giving a shit about the small budget. Even the DVD cover shows a large city landscape in the background but in the actual movie, it's a small Midwest town, which kinda defeats the purpose that Kermit's in this new and dangerous environment that they're aiming for but you don't really get that in the actual movie.
Like if you were to even do a prequel to Kermit's life, I would want to see something about Kermit finding his banjo and maybe introduce the family a different concept of making music in the swamp. (And yes, make it a musical!) If it's set in the 50s, you should make it feel like a classic 1950s musical. And I guess somewhere down the line, he meets a celebrity or a actor/actress with a struggling career and this would lead Kermit to understand what Hollywood, movies and showbiz is. And you can have that scene where Kermit goes to the theaters to understand what movies are but here, he brushes it off because he's so focused on making songs instead in his town. So in the end while his musical career becomes a disaster of not what he really desired, it could lead him to instead be a movie star and make millions happy with his kindness to the world in the beginning of The Muppet Movie because of that one friend he made early on inspired him to follow a new dream. And i guess the message is that we all have to start somewhere, even if it isn't the dream you really wanted and that you can find other opportunities instead, and how it's never too late to inspire people. Idk, something like that. (I also wouldn't make the Muppets something nobody knows about, so here, everyone knows frogs and animals talk and they're already living together. So maybe the cameos in the movie could be younger versions of other famous Muppets and where they were before they met Kermit.)

I consider myself somewhat knowledgable on the Muppets, but l've never even heard of this movie. That's the "direct to video" aspect of it, l suppose. Like Kermit's a real frog, who can really talk, and Jim's not moving his lips or anything, but his hand is still in there so Kermit blends in with all the actual puppets? Weren’t the muppets halfheartedly manhandled via low budget direct to video AND direct to television movies in the late 90s early 2000s - I recall a couple muppet t v movies premiering on ABC

Remember watching this as a kid and wondering what does this have to do with the Muppet lore.

It’s not a good film but it did give us Life as a Pet, a super catchy song

I’ve never seen the film before. You’ve had me at that epilogue seen you meet up. I would’ve never guessed until halfway through that it was you.

my absolute favorite muppet movie. I enjoyed as a kid for obvious reasons and yes there is a bit of nostalgia bias in there but nowadays I can appreciate it for it's pacing, the comedy outside of the stuff aimed at kids, the soundtrack, and it's call backs to the og muppet movie. I have been hyped for junko to review this one since he started doing this series and I completely understand and respect why many people see this as the worst muppet movie. I'm just happy to hear my fav youtuber's opinion on my fav mup flick

I think in order to balance the pee-pee poo-poo quality of this Muppets movie, we have to make a grimdark thriller with them.
