Trinity Beyond the Classroom talk 9 Spanish accounts of the conquest of Chile

Mary is a first year DPhil graduate student at Trinity College and in the Medieval and Modern Languages Faculty, where she specialises in Spanish. Her research focuses on the La Araucana, the epic poem written about the “conquest” of Chile and the beginning of the Arauco War. She is interested in using new methodologies, such as digital humanities and Mapuche ontologies, to highlight Indigenous agency within the text. In this talk, of interest to current and prospective students of Languages, History, and Politics, we hear of conflict, conquest and less reported voices from a fascinating region.
