haha! Yes. As an English teacher (to Korean students), I understand the struggles of the students. He has that determination to learn so it won't be a surprise to hear him speak spontaneously in no time. 😊
I agree, the way Americans pronounce R, T and D sounds is extremely hard to imitate for most foreigners (with the exception of ppl from Germanic and North European countries). British ppl and Australians don’t stress on them so much and sometimes just don’t pronounce them at all, so it’s a lot easier to follow.
Haha yes, in Australian accent it's just pow-a-ful. The way Americans pronounce r's is actually such hard work that our lazy asses don't have time for. I literally never make that sound
Jihoon learning English is so me learning Hangul. After more than decades watching kdrama and stan a kpop group, I decided to learn myself the Hangul to understand them and read their language. He's confused between B and V while "nae" and "dae" is confusing me and the "ra" and "la". Learning is no ending.
I hope he gets to hear this, I am learning Korean now and going through the same kind of challenges. Just keep on practicing and it will get into your head overtime. And be kind to yourself during the learning process. We are in this together so no need to feel embarrassed.
He only started in Flower of Evil as villain. He was a main lead before he accepted the villain role in Flower of Evil. He started to wear his hair long and suits him well. He used to wear his hair short in most of his leading roles before. But hey short or long hair he still a very gorgeous good looking guy.
For new beginner i think they should emphasize that exact pronunciation should come later. First, you must have the vocab. Second, just speak, forget the grammar whatnot. This is crucial to help we gain confidence and trust to ourselves. If we're not native, speaking not fluently or in same accent as native should never be an issue. Just learn and slowly practicing in your daily life, you'll get used and brave to speak it like your own mother tongue. Practice do make everything perfect. Goodluck All to those wanted to learn🌹
this part is so funny, like the wolves and how he is so eager to pronounce each word right is relatable, been there..😁 you're going to be good in speaking English with that much vigor.
I learned way more about linguistics than I ever did before when I started tutoring someone from China for fun. I did it as a way to become friends with someone overseas (I was feeling lonely during the height of the pandemic last summer). I've had to learn about and teach sounds I never realized existed. American English has two "th" sounds (the words "thick" and "that" have the two different "th" sounds), as well as 3 different "u" sounds (i.e. luck, look, Luke). I also learned that we have 3 different types of changes to a "t" sound within a word: complete omission (i.e. the word "twenty"), a flap-T (i.e. the word "water"), and a glottal stop (i.e. the word "mountain"). Teaching all these nuances of pronunciation is so dang hard because I'm slowly understanding how to teach them! Also, my friend can't stop adding schwas at the end of certain words and it drives me nuts!
Absolutely, I have done the same and they point out things that i have never paid attention to. Simple things that make me think and also make realize i may not know it like i thought
I know they want to make a show entertaining and when something seems to be boring they want to switch it up and do some funny stuff, but I hope this won't discourage this actor (and others who study) from learning English and trying to perfect his speaking skills. Learning languages, especially as an adult, is something that has to be respected, not made fun of. Good job, Kim Ji Hoon!
I think he must have thick skin, because I've seen various clips of him on these shows and they are always alternating between adoration and mockery for the sake of humor.
I reckon its easier for Koreans all together to learn with a kiwi (new zealand) accent because we dont bother with "r" all together..lol .. I men we do pronounce it in some words but most of the time we dont like "r".. lol
As an Asian myself I agree! Tbh Asians would be better off learning the Brit / Aussie / NZ (not to lump them all together but ykwim) accent because Rs are dropped, the Ts stay as Ts (rather than softening into Ds), and so on. Also the singsong cadence of e.g. the HK accent and Korean accent matches the British accent quite well. Too bad the American accent is the key Western accent portrayed by mass media
@@TheHothotheatlive UK accents aren't the same as Aussie and NZ. We don't have sing song intonation and our word pronunciation is completely different esp if you were to learn standard RP i.e the Queen's English.
"Super hot"... Yes you are baby 😂 If you need extra lessons, holler! I can make myself available 😁 I swear, this segment had me crying and cackling at the same time! Yes, I am an English teacher, and yes, this scene hit too close to home 🙈🙊🙊
It's the tongue position.. when you pronounce 'L', the tip of your tongue is positioned behind your upper teeth. And 'R' is when you pull your tongue in the middle of your mouth and it touches your upper teeth molars.
The "hard R" can be very hard for non-English speakers, but even in America in the Northeast especially around Boston even native speakers do not pronounce the "hard R." "Car" sounds like "cah", "star' sounds like "stah," "more" sounds like "mo-ah" and so on. Most American's are use to many different dialects among English speakers (since I'm American I don't know about Great Britain dialects much, but I know they do have different dialects. And I'm not sure about Australia.) People in America in the south (stretch out their vowel sounds) sound different than middle America, people in the most northern middle (Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan) pronounce words different. Example "bag" sounds like "beg" "don't you know" sounds like "doen- cha noe" "mom" sounds like "maam," etc. And people who grew up in California have a really kind of high slight nasally tone but say things kind of slow and stretched out. So don't stress too much. Those who care and pay attention will understand what you are saying, but it is awesome to see such passion to pronounce words correctly!
For a beginner like him, the emphasis should be on making the foundation solid. Giving him a really complicated sentence like that doesn't make sense. It will make any student feel demotivated.
I'll teach him English - no problem. Liberated: 리쁘라이튿 (ㄹ🔊 갈까). Powerful: 팧워 f을. Funny how I couldn't find any Korean words starting with L or R except for ramyeon/lamyeon
@Little White Rabbit the thing is the student aimed for perfection...yes he did well pronouncing but he noticed still that it was different from how the teacher pronounced it...you don't trick your student by saying it is perfect when it is not just to end it. Be honest in saying, well it is correct and needs a little bit more so it can be perfect.. Besides the student is still eager to improve it so why not give it to him.. I don't mean ill by noticing what the teacher did I was just a bit bothered that she stopped when the student is still eager to exert effort to pronounce the word perfectly.
That's just a compliment to boost his confidence because he is a beginner. I started learning English since I was 6, and of course it's hard for me to learn a foreign language. My American teacher also complimented me like this so I could feel more supportive and wanna practice more to the most perfect pronunciation. It's not a big deal though
@variety byun that's true. Even though I learn English from American teacher, classes's time is limited. I still can improve my accent by learning through English movies
That's any teachers job. He wants to also make sure he says it perfectly. If she said" Okay that's good. but it really isn't. Then she's not doing her job. Plus him being an actor. He'll probably travel a lot more to english places. where he would need to speak it a little more clearly. I think he did a pretty good job. but like he said he wants to speak it better.
An English accent should be much easier if pronouncing “r” is the main obstacle haha (I read some comments saying Australian too but some vowels in the Australian accent can be hard to imitate)
