The "Handout Prep" question got me thinking about my own prep. With locations, I tend to start with a map and then seek art that works with that image, rather than the reverse. Trying to make a map match your art can eat up a ton of time!
Re handouts - great advice. AND also if you are a player and your GM provides handouts… consider that is how they have fun/ enjoy the game and show appreciation. So much advice is aimed at the GM- need more advice for how to be a good player.
Deadlands games are (in my experience) really memorable. One thing my old marshall taught us: he made a quotations archive as we went. So many funny one-liners, bits of dialogue, and so forth, and over years of gaming, it just developed to an insanely long list of instant comedic nostalgia. This is a good recommendation for any TRPG, though! Save the best lines for later. (But i'll spare you our inside jokes)
A compromise idea for a handout vs. notetaker: I have several sets of blank playing cards (lots of companies make them). You can make a set of NPC cards (or item cards) for your note taker to keep. Just put the name of the NPC on the top ahead of time (maybe a couple descriptors at most like species and where you met them). Cuts down on the nuisance of transcribing fantasy names and gives a place to write notes for the players. Get yourself some Magic card sleeves for a 3 ring binder and you have a photobook of your Rogues Gallery.
QUESTION: My prep time-eater is that I love to make docs/pdfs of NPC & location art, as a picture says 1000 words. I find this practice inspiring and my players respond strongly to this added enthusiasm and imagery. Do the other DMs out there prep like this? What kind of "extra" prep do you find satisfying?
how is glo in the dark mini's not in the youtube title? should of been the lead story lol. great episode! ill have to check out the Ray Winneger video, sounds interesting
The glow-in-the-dark effect on the minis is probably an accidental discovery. The clear resin they use for some of their minis glowed under a UV light already. They maybe just used a more transparent paint over it.
I definitely misinterpreted CR as challenge rating, as if an AI is being trained to balance encounters because we can't seem to figure out a way to do it elegantly or easily for new DMs. I was actually super interested in the results, lol.
In regards to that 'man on the street' giving you snapshots about the comic book retail industry 'on background:' If it's Parker over at the Daily Bugle, I'd question the source - his boss is a @&%$ and I think he's finally falling under his sway. If it's Olsen over at the Daily Planet, it's probably more credible, but realize that a lot of his legwork is done by his Big Blue Boyfriend and he lets Jimmy take all the credit. And it's not like the Big S is a real reporter or anything...
So many good memories of playing Deadlands. The other players and I would always wear our cowboy hats.
Haha, we also wore cowboy hats for Frontier Scum (Mörk Borg hack) 🤠
Oh, that is awesome.
Yeah its a great game for cosplay and props

How many ticks does it take to get to the center of a random encounter?
We consulted a candy company, and they said...

Fantastic idea! Thanks for sharing, Michael!

We can't all be miniatures fans, though Teos tries to change that. Yes, the Winninger video is really interesting!
Thanks
Teos, I was crying for you to stop that joke before you got in trouble with your wife. LOL!!!!
But🤣 we have ground rules also.💍

We believe they actually glow in the dark and are more than UV-reactive, but we shall see!

We will speak to our reporter and make sure he behaves!
Let’s hope it’s Lane. She’s got a noise for a story and knows how to tell it. And she always keeps her sources confidential.
@ now if she would only learn how to use spell check
did Ray give credit to Stranger Things for 5E sales uptick?
It was not something he mentioned, though he did say there were many factors.
👍
Thanks, Chris!
I’ll make my silly comment just as soon as I finish my handout to show what happens as the comment’s payoff. 📜💬🤪
We appreciate this greatly.
