ABOUT TIK 📝
History isn’t as boring as some people think, and my goal is to get people talking about it. I also want to dispel the myths and distortions that ruin our perception of the past by asking a simple question - “But is this really the case?”. I have a 2:1 Degree in History and a passion for early 20th Century conflicts (mainly WW2). I’m therefore approaching this like I would an academic essay. Lots of sources, quotes, references and so on. Only the truth will do.
As a viewer has just pointed out, there's an editing mistake. The date in the corner doesn't update and stays the 31st of January. Sorry about that. Obviously the 6th Army surrendered on the 2nd of February.
Salute !
I think a reupload might be the best choice while its not too late
Lol. So many possible mistakes ... and yet ur videos are premium quality. Anyone that watched ur series should be given a Master Degree in "1942-1943 Stalingrad History". U being the professor of course.
20:19 - Yes, the two buildings are similar in style but clearly _not_ the same. The Executive Commitee Building has an extra balcony, on the third floor, while the Univermag Department Store's two "towers" are deeper and significantly taller. Thank you for an exciting episode. Your Stalingrad series is a masterpiece. DOn't stop till it's complete. Cheers from Denmark.
@konstancemakjaveli I don't think this particular error is worth a full re-upload. It is what it is. Obviously if I decided to do the three "all-in-one" videos for this series, I'll correct it there.
I like how the last official message from Stalingrad is a meteorological report and he just signs off like a shopkeeper closing up for the day.
Poor translation. Original in German is much more somber. I.e. meteo station is closing down (for good) , and we are sending (our last) greeting to fatherland.
Germans are terrible at emoting somberly
At a nice balmy -25F
Victors sure love bastardizing history, somber indeeed @@aleksazunjic9672
Just like a BBC Closedown and at 29:20 the 22nd Panzer Division left Gast's Pioneer Battalion behind.
We need to throw you a massive party for this colossal accomplishment. You worked like such a madman on this that you deserve your own Get Out of Jail Free card.
probably equivalent work worth of 2x PhDs 💪
Right? The quality and output of original history content is more than almost anyone . If he’s also making these maps and editing everything on his own that’s incredible
Yep.
I second this, can we set you up for a meal or party to celebrate?
I say at least 50 get out of jail free cards for this hard work.
Very interesting episode today. My aunts husband was one of the 40'000 or so soldiers that surrendered and survived. Sent to a GULAG for many years, he finally came home after being declared MIA and KIA. She opened the door, saw him standing there, turned around and said "you have to leave now" to her new husband.
Side note: As a kid I played chess with him, and he had some strange GULAG-only rules, and was a master at using his Knights. First game he won easy, the next I sacrificed everything to get them both, turned out he couldn't play without them, and he surrendered (again).
@@MrNPC is meant that the new husband had to leave. Embarrassing situation, indeed ;-)))
Do you have his name, by chance? Of course, it's none of my business.
@@wolfthegreat87 you don't seriously believe this story do you?
@@sah1746after the last part of the story i very much do
@@sah1746 I'm generally optimistic. If I can get a name, I can search the archives and see if what he's telling me is true.
Dang what a twist, I really thought Paulus would pull it off
Great work TIK 😍
BRO SPOILERS
If only Steiner had followed orders.
If madman Hitler had promoted everyone in 6th army to field marshal, they would have been unbeatable.
@user-os1gu5qb3c Tim Curry be like "Nazis!"
I went back and started watching from the beginning. It's amazing the difference between the start and now. So much more polished presentation.
Thank you, I'm glad you think that - I do too. This has been a massive learning curve for me
I will do that, thanks for the idea. It is years since I watched the early episodes. I was very impressed back then, and I am very impressed now. I am eager to see the difference.
What a stunning series, we're seriously lucky to have you TIK
As much my old-fashioned self adores books, this video format is clearly superior for the story you wanted to tell. Being able to narrate over the interactive map is a paradigm changer.
I totally agree! It's so much easier to see what's going on rather than trying to keep it all in your head as you're reading the books
It's hard to believe it's finished, but congratulations and I know how hard this was!
I believe there is one more episode, number 51, where the northern pocket surrenders.
Only real ones stayed until the end
Its been like Christmas every time they have been published. A magnificent work.
Yep!! I've watched the entire series multiple times!! Can't wait for all 50 in one episode!!!
How could anyone not watch the lot! It makes my Mondays
Yes, my battalion surrendered last.
It is the Gulag for us.
One of the greatest sagas of youtube military history comes to an end. Thanks for all of your efforts.
It's not over. There's one more episode
This was quite the achievement TIK, 50 episodes of riveting story telling that got me hooked since the beginning. One of a kind!
Dude this is BEYOND EPIC work on your part TIK. I’m a YT premium user and this series is saved to my phone so when my internet goes out (happens a lot sadly) I can still watch these.
You deserve a freaking medal for your hard work. Have a great day man, you deserve it ❤
Wow, thank you so much for the hard work, TIK! Your videos are of higher detail than any other WW2 military historian I could find on youtube.
The end is here, you made it, congratulations, I doubt anyone will match the quality and detail of this epic exposition of one of the greatest military operations of all time. Might even have been worth your suffering getting it done! ;)
high quality stuff TIK
I am just going to say, the meteorological station being the last is the best. Makes it sound like they were doing the best job of anyone there. Keeping us updated on the weather to the last. Way to go man.
I'm wondering where that weather station was actually positioned to last those extra hours.
Probably nobody told them until it was plainly obvious and they just went "Oh well...".
German weather reports were regular daily transmissions (roughly always at the same time). They simply used the opportunity to send final greetings . Btw, translation is not very accurate, perhaps because it is not possible to translate nuances of German language to English
I think the Met Office will be the last to fall when Britain is overwhelmed by extraterrestrials/zombies.
Or Muslims @@windalfalatar333
I remember back when you had just started this series, it seems so long ago now. You've come a long way Lewis
Can't believe its ending after 3 years
The End of the Legend! 50 Episodes! Amazing!
This series has been a companion for most of my PhD. They are both ending around the same time. I feel sad and joyful.
Damn, that's profound. All the very best for the journey ahead!
Well done TIK! This series has truly been a piece of history. Thank you for your detail and dedication putting this together.
Absolutely epic. Congratulations sir.
Congratulations on this MASSIVE accomplishment. I would have never ever imagined that it was possible to produce such an in-depth video series about this epic battle. I salute you!
Thank you Sir for seeing this to the end, its been a master piece, watching it from Nairobi Kenya
Your conclusion that Goebbels wrote the message from Paulus to Hitler on the 29th-31st is the most logical answer. Great series TIK.
Thanks for the hard work!
Beatiful and very well-done series. I appreciate you using Soviet & Russian sources too to provide a full and unbiased picture.
Quality stuff. Love it. Will be patiently waiting for everything regarding Stalingrad 🥳🥳
Thank you ,TIKhistory.
Kind of sad this is coming to an end. It’s been something to look forward to for such a long time. A tremendous effort!
17th season...
It's been a hell of a ride.
Thank you for painstakingly, and with long suffering finally finishing the most detailed Stalingrad documentary currently available.
2:56 crazy how the Croats held that circle. They probably had no idea that East to them was another pocket.
Thank you so much TIK. The best documentry series I've ever had the pleasure to watch.
Grant would be proud and in awe
Damn auto type I ment to say Glantz would, d be proud
I can’t believe it’s almost over. What an accomplishment! Take a bow brother! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
THANK YOU for the countless hours you poured into this series. It stands alone as the greatest Battle Documentary In the history of RUclips, possibly just the best ever. Period. A new bar has been set. Congratulations 👊🏻🙏🏻
Tik, we could practically smell the gunsmoke. Thanks much for this deep drill-down on Stalingrad. I'm satisfied I know the battle better than most military historians after watching your series
I can't describe with words how proud of you I am @TIKhistory
Can't tell who's more relieved, the germens who were about to surrender or TIK being almost done with the battlestorm.
Thank you Tik for your endless dedication
TIK, I am so glad you finished this. I read so many books and none of them ever brought this battle to life like this. It has seriously changed the way I envision the Second World War, the eastern front, warfare in general. That’s how comprehensive it is, that is is so revealing.
I’m proud of you for finishing this epic.
I was here when the best documentary of ww2 came to its glorious conclusion.
TIK you are a gigant.
Been a great series learning about the details of the Stalingrad battle.
What an amazing achievement this series is! I've been an avid student of the battles on the Eastern Front for over 40 years now, and yet there was so much new info and perspective here that I feel I only scratched the surface.
I have an operation coming up after which I'll need to rest up for a couple of weeks, and now I know 'exactly' how I'm going to occupy my time!
24:50 "Commit sudoku", a nice touch
Honestly I believe you have done colossal work and a great thanks for it. For me whenever a new Stalingrad episode would come out it was a moment of happiness. I would just buy two beers switch off the phone and enjoy your in depth analysis. This has been my "ritual" for the past year or so and I am really thankful for this. Just know you are amazing and your critic of narrative has been a central point of many conversations regarding history and not only. What I want to say is that you have impact on people both talking about myself and people I come to have conversations with, shout out to your video about if history is real.
Thank you,
Your average viewer
Well done. Excellent work. This will stand for many many years.
Thank you. After watching the next and last episode, I intend to watch each episode again. Wonderful series. Wonderful presentation.
Extraordinary work Tik. Thank you very much!
If you were a member of the academic elite, you and this series would receive numerous awards. You impress me with every episode. Thank you. God Bless.
Frankly, this.
It doesn't get any more detailed than TIK's videos. Fascinating!
Whenever you post anything and whatever time of year, it is, it is for me. Like opening a Christmas present. Bravo for everything you have done. 50 years ago I did a lot of Dr. level work in philosophy of history, which more recently has led me into narrative history, but it also supplies a backgroundfor appreciating what you do
thank for your dedication completing the series. your analyzing skills in history is superb.
I’m obsessed about this battle so when you started this series I was super excited and you haven’t disappointed. Thanks
TIK, congratulations. Such a monumental achievement!
I remember my father (russian) voicing that Paulus was adamant that he didn't surrender, and understanding the facts now makes it as clear as clean water! I thank you ❤❤
Nothing but Respect for Tik and his assistants.
Wow! Your best piece yet, I always loved learning about Stalingrad from your videos.
Wow. The journey is almost done. In the end, it was really all about the friends we made along the way
Thank you, Professor. It was a very educational series.
We're finally here! Congrats TIK. An amazing project this series is.
What an achievement. I absolutely love the channel.
Congratulations! Thank you for giving us this amazing series. It is a great accomplishment.
Funny trivia: the battles of Cannae and Stalingrad were 2158 years apart, but they were both devastating defeats for an attacking army after encirclement, and both times the losing side was led by a commander named Paulus.
That's not true, the roman army at cannae was led by the 2 consols Lucius Aemilius Paullus and Gaius Terentius Varro. Unless you're talking about a different battle of cannae
@@posham219 Are you seriously going to make a point out of the fact that one Paulus had an extra L in his name?
Thank you, Lewis, for this amazing Battlestorm and a huge effort. All I can say is that I have watched every minute of the series.
Congratulation on a wonderful work. This Battlestorm has been a bliss to follow.
i had to laugh out loud when that Weather station sent that last message out of the pocket. A stark mirror to "All quiet on the Western Front", making the surrender of the 6th army somewhat feel just like the late shift of a radio station is simply closing down shop for the night.
Absolutely Surreal.
Phenomenal work!!! TIK IS KING!!!
Paulus claiming that he didn't surrender, but that he "was captured", reminds me of a guy who said "of course I didn't sell the horse! I just exchanged it for money, which is a completely different thing!"
This has been an incredible journey.
The amout of work applied here is fantastic.
I want to thank you for every effort you made to give us this series! I will after the last episode go back and watch it all again. History now has a much more precise and finely detailed account of this entire campaign. Thank you so very much, jim
An incredible piece of historical work. Thank you for your dedication.
Thanks TIK. It's been such an epic series over such a long time that it will feel strange not have any more episodes after the next.
there is no way to tell this story any better. what a masterpiece
Loved this series and learned so much. Couldn't the battle have been said to last until March 15, 1943 when Kharkov(Kharkiv) fell ? It ended back where it started on June 28 1942. Would love a high level coverage of how the Germans escaped from the Caucuses.
This was such a fantastic high-quality series. I salute you!
What a series 🎉🎉🎉 so many sources cross checked in so many languages.... Thank you, that changed my vision of Stalingrad.
I truly believed that the last "stalingrad message" would be a big thanks from you and afterward would have come the meteo forecast
great works for this series, congrats
Thank you for your hard work, I will miss the anticipation for the next Stanlingrad episode...
Thank you for all the hard work and dedication.
Stalingrad series is a gem!
Cheers mate!
This was awesome mate. well done. I was never interested in the soviet side of WW2 but your videos on this changed my interest.
Magistral work! Bravo TIK!
Fantastic work on this series. Thanks for your time and effort.
One more chapter in a monumental tour de force of history. Thanks is not enough for the work you did, TIK. I highly appreciate the effort for accuracy, for facts, for telling the story while informing your audience what may or may not have happened or how. Professional academic!
It's amazing to realize in 2023 that you just get to watch for free what most likely will go down as the longest and most epic documentary in history
(not saying I don't sub on patreon, I do on and off when I can)
This entire series has brought me great enjoyment as a fan of history, sad to see it ending somewhat but so glad it got made. I am eager to see the next battle storm.
Congratulations are in order. I can't think of anything adequate to say. Thank you so much for all your work.
I am impressed by the meteorological station sending one last report before shutting down. I wonder if any of them ever got home.
Hi TIK - your assessment of how Paulus plays this out makes more sense to me than any of the other accounts. Having read everything but Glanz from your list and a few others, I am convinced that while Paulus may have considered "Sudoku" he would have put that aside. Paulus was a staff officer before he was a field commander, after all. Not that this is the whole story but once he was left in Stalingrad and abandoned, from everything I know about the man, this was his play. He was only promoted to Field Marsal once the die was cast which was basically a poke in the eye with the expectation he would take one for the team. Too bad we can't ask him today.
Thank you for this epic story!
Que enorme trabajo!!! Felicitaciones!!! Un lujo poder acceder a tanto conocimiento. Gracias y mil gracias!!
One of my German cousins was a Luftwaffe officer who knocked out 12 T-34's in Stalingrad with an 88. He did this alone, after his flak crew was annihilated. He's mentioned in Beevors book. Lt. Herschmann, but our spelling changed since 1730 coming to America.
Congrats TIK. This is history in the making. What a wonderful job. Thanks for this Masterpiece.
Tik thank you for this brilliant series. It took 4 years. But for one man to do this series on this epic battle with the detail maps is amazing. Congratulations
A great and professionally made series. TIK, you deserve an Oscar for all that effort. Maybe a DVD box set?? 😀😀
Wild to see this battle conclude. Paulus still surrendered.
This was a fantastic journey. I'm glad I could have witnessed it and wait for the videos on Mondays. Watching then was one of the best part of past 4 years.
I thought I knew something about Stalingrad, the series has shown me how little I knew, thank you. The weather report is a wonderful bit.
Thank you very much for the hard work to create this magnificent document. And also thank you for making me discover some great books about the battle ( Island of fire, the death of the leaping horseman etc...). I'm still waiting for the last volume of Glantz's opus though...
I've been trough your Curland pocket document, great work as well. As I'm in an Ostfront mood this year , my Christmas present would be one of your beautiful job done on Barbarossa and typhoon ....please...Santa Tik ...I've been a good boy this year.:-)
Simply incredible, I especially love the little bits of personality you add. The little fake joke quotes and the satirical nature you have is historian nirvana for me. Simply cannot wait for the next project, simple Q and A you do with donators questions, or whatever you decide to tackle next.
I absolutely appreciate your critique of information sources, reading between the lines, and arriving at sensible conclusions of what actually happened, why, where, who, and how.
I look forward to rewatching this series in the future. You told this story perfectly! Even knowing the outcome of the campaign, each episode was exciting and made me want to question the culmination of the campaign!
Thank you so much! Best historic series i ever seen!
Epic TIK. Just Epic. Congratulations - well done.
Another great episode! I hope the final episode will show where the prisoners where taken to, how many of them actually made it there and which Soviet forces quickly packed up and joined their western front.
