Disassembling and Modding Roswell Humbuckers from a Harley Benton Fusion III

  • In this video, I strip down a pair of Roswell humbuckers from a Harley Benton Fusion III. Then, just for fun, I swap out the slugside coils with some handwound ones of my own, replace the magnets, reassemble, and re-pot. Soon, I'll put the pickups back in the guitar (to which I'm doing a few other things ...) and we'll see how they sound in the next video.

    I have zero intentions of modding my Roswells (I intend to replace them for something completely different) nor do I have the parts and tools to mod them but I was glued to my screen for the whole 12 minutes! Great video!

    Perhaps I'm not the audience you intended to have, but I came here trying to find how the cable of the Roswell pickups was soldered to the bobbins and you showed it quite clearly.
    I'll convert a Roswell PAF's cable from 3 leads and common black lead + shield to 4 leads and separate shield. Thanks for showing it's an easy task (unlike other pickups I opened).

    Why are true tapped humbuckers as rare as hens teeth? in the mid '80s I had an Ibanez Roadstar II that had true tapped humbuckers which gave me the thinner single coil but without any 60Hz hum, I regret letting that instrument go, I should have at least put the stock humbuckers in and kept the tapped ones.

      I guess because true tapping adds a tricky extra step to the manufacturing process ... but yeah, I agree!
