This is what I imagine when you say Mega Drive sound. It isn't the best but has so much character and doesn't aged one minute. It is so 1980's, with grungy synth, metallic drum sampling, clear, loud and proud. Mega Drive is like cool kid from 1988, that still behaves like cool kid from 1988 even today, when SNES is like grown adult, that settled down, have kids and isn't childish anymore. And that is so boring.
l had this game when l was a kid and l got my ass handed to me all the time, the farest I've ever progressed was at the unforgiving 4rd stage and l just gave up, this game is freaking brutal and if you can beat it without cheating, then every video game in the world is a joke to you. but man the music rocks!
Played this on the Megadrive back in the day, now my cartridge is busted so I grabbed it as rom and played it on emu, still as freaking hard as I remember, playing on "Hard" difficulty is rediculous, your hitbox covers half the screen, u get hit by everything...
@thomasekule really well with my megadrive 1 it ran all my games very fast but it seems that for the 2nd system it runs sonic 1 and hell fire soundtrack a lil slow. As for truxton I'll look into it.
I guess someone already explained to you why that is, but it has nothing to do with cleaning the cartridge. It depends on wether you have a PAL or NTSC system. At least that's what I remember someone told me years ago
@jupiterofthemonkey It depends on which version of the Sega Genesis or Mega Drive you are running. A gen 1 system will play the music at the speed in the video. A gen 2 or above has different soundchips so the music plays at PAL speeds. I have the actual cartridge and Genesis systems from gen 1 on and have noticed this difference.
:D And... I disagree with both of you xD IMO both Hellfire and Zero Wing sound great and the fact that both use a different sound driver = variety in sound = win!
Having problems clearing any stage in a hardcore, new generation, game? Play this... Success Garanteed Works with the Ninja Gaiden beat from stage 1 as well
+Lemont “L-Monty” Johnson oh, someone else claims it was original hardware versus sega 2 that made the speed difference. I had, both, so i could be forgetting the difference. very possible.
+Lemont “L-Monty” Johnson It could also be that you are playing on a model 2 Genesis. The game was made / tested on model 1 hardware which plays music incorrectly in certain games. Since Hellfire was designed to playback correctly on the flawed model 1 hardware, when played on a model 2, which plays with the correct timings, the music is sloth-ified :(
There is a glitch to get infinet lives. You have to do it at the main menu. You have to literally smack the game a little until it stops then you have to reset the game and thats it.
123doomdoom You must’ve been using a Model 2. Hardware changes between the Model 1 & 2 cause the music to run slow in this game and Earthworm Jim most notably.
Kugee Had A MIDI Version of Stage 1 To Stage 5 In Full & A Snippet of Stage 6 Before Reverting To Spooky Music. EDIT: First Comment On This Video In 2020!
Best rendition of this awesome tune!! Well, the PC Engine CD version took a different, more "dreamy" approach but it lost the edgy feel of the original and the game itself turned out rather mediocre, with worse visuals and dumbed down gameplay whereas the Mega Drive version is even EDGIER than the arcade, with improved synth and a dope, distorted snare drum and the game itself is cleverly ported, with several gameplay tweaks such as color changes when cycling through the different weapons or added "Hellfire Beam"! Toaplan ports on Mega Drive are usually labors of love anyway and Hellfire is one of the finest of the lot and was an instant classic as soon as it hit Sega's console in 1990.
Totally disagree with you, the PC Engine version is superb (one of the best CD ROM soundtrack of the platform). As I previously heard this "studio" version, I find that the megadrive version which is closer to the original very cheap with its poor sounds and sometimes hard to listen, especially on this track, which has originally false notes. Question of taste, but the PC engine version is still a masterpiece.
@Taszu60 Your useing the european megadrive 2 system. this worked fast on european megadrive 1 console but when I got the 2nd version it runs slower. I think the megadrive 1 system runs all games in NTCS mode 60fps like the US version.
A music which shines on the "metallic" chiptune of the Megadrive ! Vibrant !

Hahahahhaha
Epic game.... played it from 1992 till now.... it still brings a smile to my face!! This is how videogames should be....
Concordo realmente
That game was so hard, when I was kid, i dreamt about finishing it...
One of my absolute all time favorites!!!!
man this song is so awesome.... I remember this song and this game!!!! so awesome...
I dont know many songs on guitar but this is like one of the only tunes I ever learnt its that bad ass.
Just listening to it makes me feel like a hero
My favourite game for the Sega. I wish I could get it working again.
2023 anyone?
I keep plugging in my Sega Multi Mega to play this, sonic and streets of rage :D
And about what video uploader said... It, indeed, was one of the hardest if not THE hardest sshmups of the console... or all time

Still got my Japanese version as my Megadrive was a Japanese import and this was one of the first games i had... good old memories :)
Best Shoot'em up ever!!! I love it!!!
For 16-bit music this is a FUCKING TUNE!!!
Best of those 2D space fighter games ( don't know the name of the game genre) EVER! this brings back memories.

Awesome track that should've used the same sound driver as Zero Wing.
I disagree on that as Zero Wing for Sega Genesis should have used the same sound driver as this game.
:D

@@ryzmaker11 i agree with Alianger
hey guys, i ve made a ym2612 remix of this song if you wanna take a look

@@Jac2Macno way, this game should have used the Cube driver like Zero Wing did.

@xRocketzFighterx Not all. I got some few Genesis games that runs slower on the PAL Megadrive 1. Truxton for instance.
Am I the only one that realizes that this sounds like "Judas Priest - Hell Bent For Leather"
I does sound similar
i dont hear it, people also say TMNT sounds like number of the beast but I dont hear that either
@@SevenCompleted its the guitar in the chorus right after he sings "hell bent, hell bent for leather."
No, you're not, but it's just a small part that they have in common. And this actually rocks harder that "Hell Bent For Leather". :D
you left out a layer on the music export, i miss some top accord layers!
I must have been playing the PAL version because the music was not this fast.
+Lemont “L-Monty” Johnson possibly. The american version was definitely this fast, and has always been to me since day one! Love this track!

Yes, you played american version on European console. (in other words NTSC on PAL system)
@@WhatsOnMyShelf It actually makes it sound bad.
It is not properly converted to PAL. Mod your console so it can run in 60 Hz and play the game in that setting and the music will play correctly.
There is a glitch to get infinet lives.

what a heccin banger god damn
I live in America dude. I don't know why the music is slow.

I love searching for pointless shit back from my youth. Great tune!
0:08 - 0:11 best part!
Now this is incredible.
Twin Cobra on Genesis should have used this sound driver.
I always remember the song played slower for some reason
Mines at about half speed too. Always has been.
this one was the best tune!

I Love It ❤️😎👍
theyre called SHMUPS (shoot em ups) or SSHMUPS (space shoot em ups)
shoot em ups or in ups?
@ultramegaunknown Yeah i think my cartirdge has ALWAYS played it half as fast :L maybe its supposed to be that way
Loved music; hated title. I keep thinking of he'll!

looks like natols from zero wing
sounds just like Zero Wing music
it is an awesome tune, but it doesnt rock as hard as some of the stuff from Thunderforce 4
@ultramegaunknown Try to clean the cartridge :)
