EP 108 Judas Priest - Heading Out To The Highway
"Heading Out To The Highway" is a song written by Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing that was recorded for Judas Priest's 1981 album "Point of Entry". It was released as a single later in the year and was the first Judas Priest song to reach the Top 10 of the US Mainstream Rock chart.

For this track I used my Johnson/Harley Benton P-bass clone which has been fitted with an EMG P pickup. It's strung with flatwounds and I have recently fitted a bridge cover which has had foam stuck to it to act as a mute. This deadens the sustain and is perfect for replicating Ian's bass parts in the song which are in the main quaver (8th) note patterns. I also played it with fingers as I'm currently working on my plucking techniques.
The backing track was created by removing the bass part from the song using the Moises.ai app and then the result was imported into Reason. The count-in part was created by editing the first two bars of the automatic metronome track that Moises creates. I recorded the bass into Reason using a PreSonus USB96 audio interface. Processing wise, I applied some compression to help level out the signal and then some chorus to provide a bit of fattening. I also cut a lot of the high frequency content using a low pass filter in the mixer section of reason and also removed the very low frequencies using a high pass filter. This helped provide separation between the bass and the kick drum.
The footage was filmed using a Samsung A52 smartphone. The onscreen tab was created by synching the Guitar Pro file with the audio track using Go PlayAlong 4 and capturing the result using NCH Debut. I then added the titles (which were created using the Postermywall.com website) and edited everything together using DaVinci Resolve 17.
