Thank you so-so much for your review on this air purifier. I just opened mine, and wanted to find out how to properly operate. Your review is so precise & detailed making it so easy to operate. Thanks for sharing info on plasmawave setting. Awesome review
This was a super helpful review especially considering my instructions were missing but everything else was sealed. I was wondering how to turn off the Plasma Wave technology and also appreciate your recommendation to vacuum it every 2 weeks. I forgot I had this and just opened it up, your review made the process easier. Thanks!
Yes, vacuuming is a must if you live in a dusty area or have pets that have hair that get stuck on the pre-filter. Sorry for the late reply and hope alls well!

I don't vacuum the filter every day. I think it depends a lot on how dusty/smokey the area you live in is like. If it's got a lot of dust, etc. then I would vacuum once a week? If it's less dusty/smokey, I'd try to do it once every few weeks.
Thanks for the review 👍. How has it held up and how often do you replace the filter? Will this help with preventing cooking odor from being absorbed into carpet? Thanks.
Hi sorry for the delay. I replace the carbon filter every 3 months and the HEPA filter every year. I have had it for a few years now and still love it. It seems to help with cooking but I always turn on my stove wall mount fan when frying/making stir fry so I don't notice many smells.
Thanks for watching! I think you can use the highest setting if it's really smoky where you are but I usually keep it on Auto. Auto is also great because at night it will turn itself off so the light won't be so bright in your room :). You'll also save more energy on Auto I believe.
Thank you for demonstration and instruction on the use of this air purifier. I am having problems turning off the red flashing light. I changed my air filter, turned it back on, and you said poke a pin into the little hole which I did and it still did not turn the flashing red light off, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks! I clean it about every 2 weeks and I definitely see a lot of dust, features, or fibers caught on the mesh filter so I think the purifier is working.
Great review and thank you. I am getting mixed information about the dangers of plasmawave technology from the interwebs. But, as they say, the interwebs is the interwebs. Thanks again!!

Hi, I live in WA, too. Just thinking about getting an AC instead of my portable Delong unit, because my Delong is too noisy to use. In addition, I recommend you check your portable ACs' User Books, my Delong has intake entrance on the machine. I can't prevent polluted air from outside when the portable AC is turned on, which means If I run the purifier and Delong together in summer, I won't get clean air indoor. I have been keeping the plasma wave on as of the past year and so far it's been working pretty well for me actually. I now vacuum a lot more regularly (probably once or twice a week) so maybe that has helped too... hard to say. Thanks for the comment and feedback about your device too! After a few years, still been really happy with this filter and it's going well!
@@WellnessJourneys one thing I dislike compared to HR900 is not a able to turn off the status indicator light and keep it in high/turbo mode...! Hello I bought it recently as well. I keep it in auto as well. U know the indicator light also has green which I never saw it. Also want to point out its 65 watts when it’s in auto mode it only take 10 watts to run.
The more expensive versions of winix have a true carbon filter with small pellets inside. They last longer and are more effective. One of these is winix zero pro. I have it for a couple of months and got to say, less dust and room smells better. Buuut, it's not a miracle device as some may think.
Wow, thanks for that recommendation and sharing that info. I tried looking it up and it doesn't seem to be sold here in the USA. What country are you located in if you don't mind me asking :)?
Thanks so much for your subscribe, I hope to continue to make more unbiased and unsponsored reviews :). I'll be making a video soon about how to replace the filter as well. I'm sure the filters are working because the old replacements always come out looking really dirty!
Thanks so much!!! Really helpful as we are about to set up (I'm skipping the WiFi for now as I am technically challenged, but my daughter will likely download the app ). We just got one as a gift from in laws at Costco as my daughter has terrible allergies and the one we are using is about 10 years old. My concern is it will go in my daughters bedroom . Should we use the Plasma Wave option? Thanks again for the video!!!
The WiFi isn't hard to set up but I personally haven't used it since it's pretty easy to turn on and off by pushing the buttons on it. I just leave it on Auto the whole time: in the dark, it turns itself off after a minute or two so it's nice when you go to bed. Regarding the Plasma Wave option... I'm not sure, you could turn it on when you're out of the room and then turn it back off when you're in the room. I personally have been using it without the Plasma Wave option because I haven't had enough time to look into it. winixeurope.eu/winix-plasmawave-technology/ is their website where they have information about it and you can decide if you feel it's safe or not!
@@WellnessJourneys Thanks again . It’s up and running . We will research the Plasma Wave and make an informed decision. Look forward to watching your other videos as it’s really great to see how to use these things before diving in without a clue.
@@jbstonesfan glad to hear it's running for you- I feel it works pretty well, especially during fire season! I heard the Plasma Wave is useful, if you try it, let me know! Feel free to subscribe to see future videos if you haven't already.
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. I leave my filter running all night, I put it on power level 1 or 2 throughout the night because I have bad allergies (I put a little cover over the light to not bother me or be bright in the dark). I do not put it on sleep mode at all for the one that's in my room.
Yeah, the filter was so helpful during the fires, might be good to get one while it's not fire season so you have a bigger selection to choose from. This one is Costco specific only, but this brand makes a lot of other ones, too.
Loved your review! It is very complete.I just got mine yesterday and after putting it all together I plugged it in without downloading the app. I was relieved to know that I hadn't messed up. I was wondering if you've done a follow up review on this model?
Glad I could help! I haven't done a follow up but my 4 purifiers are still going strong. I have bad allergies so I find them super helpful. I replace the black carbon filters 4x a year and the HEPA filter once a year, they are a bit pricy but the Winix website has sales of 30% off a few times a year and that's when I buy my replacements since they aren't cheap. I'll consider doing a follow up review since it's been years since I initially bought it and still been quite happy :). Thanks for stopping by and subscribing- have a great day!
@@WellnessJourneys I am subscribing so I won't miss your follow up review. 2 questions: Do you use the Plasmawave option? I also bought the Dyson v11 torque yesterday. Do you have a review on this? TYIA.
It's been really good for odors and smoke, I like leaving it on the Auto setting since it knows to turn on a higher level when needed. I can't speak directly on cigarette smoke since no one in my household smokes, but we do find it helpful if we're frying or cooking food with a little bit of smoke, it helps a lot.
Hey there! I loved your review on this product. I had just purchased it and had many concerns after readings about the plasmawave technology being a health hazard. I decided to go through with the purchase since they told me that I could turn it off and be fine, they stated that the Ozone should be under 0.05ppm for safety and stated that theirs is at 0.001 which is even lower. I still won’t be using it to ensure the safety of my family though. Lol. Are you still using yours? If so, are you noticing any positive changes to the quality of the air? I know this is an older review but many people still find it very useful!! Thank you!😃
Ozone considered bad. Negative ions considered good. Flouride undetermined. Nuclear fission bad. Nuclear fusion better. Take control of your life Stephanie, others need not know of your current paranoia yet I do hope you feel better by venting.
@@geraldhenrickson7472 I don’t have any paranoia, I was simply stating what I was going to do for myself and what the company had explained to me. If I had an ounce of paranoia I wouldn’t have bought the air purifier in the first place. I’m sorry if you must have had a bad day to come reply on my comment claiming that I am paranoid and that I was venting, I was simply explaining to anyone else who may come across this video review. Thank you for your concern though, have a blessed day. 🙂
Thanks for the kind comment- sorry to see that the person was being rude to you above. I don't always check my comments because I have not been on RUclips as much these days since work has been busy. I still use my Winix every day, I find it helpful because when I am vacuuming the mesh filter, I see a lot of dust, fibers, and little feathers stuck on it. I also think it helps because the carbon filter seems to catch a lot of odors as well. If you're unsure of the plasmawave technology you could also turn it on when you leave the house so you don't have to feel worried, or you can not use it at all.
could you explain why we might want to not use the plasmawave while at home? is there a setting to increase the strength of the air purifier without also increasing the strength of the plasmawave? Sorry if you don't know! I know you're not customer service! I just don't know where else to ask for now. Thanks for the great video!
Some people are worried about the plasmawave technology being unhealthy. I don't think there's any evidence that it's unhealthy but people are concerned out of an abundance of caution. If you turn off the plasma wave you can still turn the filter level to the highest setting with the plasma wave off. If you click the arrow buttons you can adjust the level of the filter (even when the plasmawave is off or not). I think I show how to toggle it in the video. @@WellnessJourneys I see! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this thorough response to me! Both this video and this comment have been super helpful! I really appreciate it!
Still running well with no issues, I do clean my filter and bought replacements off of Costco (and also bought it off it's website when it was having a sale).
FAQ: (1) winix filter replacements, (2) usage during fires, and (3) potential power outage issue 1. Replacement filters Heads up everyone, Winix does occasional sales with the most being 30% off the replacement filters. The filter for this specific model C545 (Costco exclusive) is Filter S - 1712-0096-00. If you buy from their website this was one of the sales I saw "We want to THANK YOU for being a Winix customer! We are offering a discount of 30% off your filter purchase with code FILTER30! Remember, replacing your filter is essential in maintaining the best air quality for you and your family. Be sure to get the most out of your Winix this year with a fresh filter set!" 2. Fires I've been getting a lot more comments and questions on this video since California (and a few other states) are currently experiencing fire season. Here's some health info as of this years: "While wildfires are a natural part of California’s landscape, the fire season in California and across the West is starting earlier and ending later each year. Climate change is considered a key driver of this trend. Warmer spring and summer temperatures, reduced snowpack, and earlier spring snowmelt create longer and more intense dry seasons that increase moisture stress on vegetation and make forests more susceptible to severe wildfire. The length of fire season is estimated to have increased by 75 days across the Sierras and seems to correspond with an increase in the extent of forest fires across the state. NIFC predicts portions of the Coast Ranges, Sierra, and Cascades in California increasing to above normal fire danger in June and July and continuing through September." (from the State of California) "Use a portable air cleaner that is the right size for the room. Run the portable air cleaner continuously on the highest fan setting if you can. Pick one that does not produce ozone. If you have central HVAC, you can also install a high-efficiency filter (MERV 13 or higher) in the system. Run the system’s fan as often as possible to get the most out of the filter. During periods of heavy smoke, plan to replace the filter in your air cleaner or HVAC system more often than recommended by the manufacturer. If you notice that filters appear heavily soiled when you replace them, you should consider changing them more frequently." (from the EPA) 3. Potential power outage issues Some people mentioned their devices not restarting after a power outage, there's a phone number on the back to call or contact them online. You'll need proof of purchase and serial number and they can likely send you a replacement device!
@@Discovery123. I'd actually recommend getting 2 per floor, their official recommendation is one device per 360 sqft. I think it definitely depends on your budget if you can afford another one or not! I definitely noticed the air quality in the house has been better- especially when I vacuum the pre-filter (I see a ton of dust and feathers and hairs). Hope this info helps! Please subscribe if you find the videos useful, I'll be reviewing more home health products in the future and another video when it comes around to replacing the filters!
I clean the pre-filter (the dark grey plastic piece) and throw away the black piece (carbon filter) every 3 months. I change the white thicker HEPA filter every year. Hope that helps!
This was really interesting to see. The only reason why I've held off getting one is that some say air purifiers have a lot of radiation, but I have yet to look into it.
Sorry it was confusing! So inside of the filter already has 1 year supply inside. But they give you an extra pack with it so in total it's 2 years worth of filters included. Pretty good deal.

Have you had any issues resetting the air purifier after putting in a new one? I replaced the air filter and hit the reset button, but then it'll still start flashing red after a few minutes :(
@@nurseae4586 Search on RUclips winix c545 filter reset. Basically stick a paperclip in the hole with the circle arrow and hold for a couple seconds and it will reset.
@@nurseae4586 Sorry for the delay, I use a paper clip or a needle and hold it down for about 5-10 seconds and it will reset and the light will turn off.
It's normally $129.99, but at the moment they're offering a $30 manufacturer's savings valid 3/10/21 through 4/4/21. While supplies last. Limit 2 per member.
There's a little button that looks like a wifi symbol (kind of looks like a pyramid made of curved lines). After you plug in the device, you can just hold that button and it will turn off. If there's no light on, it means the wifi is off.
I got one of these a while back it’s been about a year just replace the filters because it was making a weird noise and it’s still making that noise and it doesn’t operate like it used to anyone else have this problem
Dang, sorry to hear that, maybe something got loose or fell into the air purifier. I haven't had any issues with mine making weird noises... have you tried messaging their customer service email? info@winixinc.com Let me know what you hear back.
If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
Nice review, but would be helpful if you explained what each mode, such as night mode, did. Also to hold the camera still over the instructions so that pausing and reading if needed as you suggest would actually be possible.
Sorry to hear you've had a bad experience. I did buy the filters on their website when they had a 30% off sale so it was a bit cheaper, but I agree they should sell the filters at a lower cost since we've already bought the device... I don't actually work for the company and am not sponsored by them in any way, but yeah, agree with you.

Why does the light change colors????
How often do you turn it on, or do you keep it on all the time?
I got 4 or 5 that are messing up even with a surge protector. Im tired of exchanging them
Thanks so much!!!
And yes, thanks for tuning in, I plan to release more product reviews coming up. If there's anything you're interested in, feel free to comment and I'll see if I can do more reviews in the future :). Feel free to subscribe to see future videos if you haven't already.
I have a Winix 5500-2. I take it that this unit is a smaller and more portable model, not sure how it compares in terms of performance
Do I have to use Wi-Fi. And the app
What color it good. If they turn orange that what mean
Is the Plasma Wave the Ozone feature?
Can Winix c545 automatic switch to sleep mode in the dark when Wi-Fi function is ON?
Sorry I'm not sure what you mean. I leave my filter running all night, I put it on power level 1 or 2 throughout the night because I have bad allergies (I put a little cover over the light to not bother me or be bright in the dark).
I do not put it on sleep mode at all for the one that's in my room.
Why do you need to download an App?
Glad I got to see this one. We're definitely in the market for a new filter when we move back!
TYIA.
Never could figure out to to connect the WINIX to my Wi-Fi. I just got all frustrated and gave up.
Hello. Is this one any good for odors and most importantly cigarette smell?
It's been really good for odors and smoke, I like leaving it on the Auto setting since it knows to turn on a higher level when needed. I can't speak directly on cigarette smoke since no one in my household smokes, but we do find it helpful if we're frying or cooking food with a little bit of smoke, it helps a lot.
Great demo! Just bought one myself 😂
@@stephaniepounds7962 That person's comment was harsh and gratuitous. You just had a question. I'm sorry about that.
@@josephmcgann2985 Thank you very much! I truly appreciate it! I guess they were just having a bad day. Thank you for the nice reply! :)
So is it still running perfectly no issues?
Still running well with no issues, I do clean my filter and bought replacements off of Costco (and also bought it off it's website when it was having a sale).
When I increase the auto flash on the left of the word auto turns off. Why?
FAQ: (1) winix filter replacements, (2) usage during fires, and (3) potential power outage issue
1. Replacement filters
Heads up everyone, Winix does occasional sales with the most being 30% off the replacement filters.
Be sure to get the most out of your Winix this year with a fresh filter set!"
2. Fires
I've been getting a lot more comments and questions on this video since California (and a few other states) are currently experiencing fire season.
NIFC predicts portions of the Coast Ranges, Sierra, and Cascades in California increasing to above normal fire danger in June and July and continuing through September." (from the State of California)
"Use a portable air cleaner that is the right size for the room.
If you notice that filters appear heavily soiled when you replace them, you should consider changing them more frequently." (from the EPA)
3. Potential power outage issues
Some people mentioned their devices not restarting after a power outage, there's a phone number on the back to call or contact them online. You'll need proof of purchase and serial number and they can likely send you a replacement device!
Can I put two of this in the house? I am thinking of put one on the 1st level and 2nd on the upper level. Thanks!
Yes, I would recommend having multiple if you have two stories, I would put one upstairs and one downstairs. How many sqft is your place?
@@WellnessJourneys Thank you for your answer. I have over 2000 sq ft.
Thank you! Made set up so easy!
I thought you just throw away the air filter after it's dirty...didn't know you can clean it for reuse.
Yeah, the nice thing about this device is you can turn off the Plasmawave feature which should help with that!
All things radiate lest you could not see them. Energy equals radiation. Its the frequency and the amplitude that matters.
@@geraldhenrickson7472 bouncing off a photon is not radiation
I didn't see how to turn it off in vid? Isn't the radiation equivalent to like a microwave which is minute ?
Thank you for your help ❤😊
Confused?? I thought u said at the beginning it comes with 1 year supply but at the end I heard 2.. which one is it?
Sorry it was confusing! So inside of the filter already has 1 year supply inside. But they give you an extra pack with it so in total it's 2 years worth of filters included. Pretty good deal.

Have you had any issues resetting the air purifier after putting in a new one? I replaced the air filter and hit the reset button, but then it'll still start flashing red after a few minutes :(
I have this issue too. I wish someone would reply
@@nurseae4586 Search on RUclips winix c545 filter reset. Basically stick a paperclip in the hole with the circle arrow and hold for a couple seconds and it will reset.
Sorry for the delay, I use a paper clip or a needle and hold it down for about 5-10 seconds and it will reset and the light will turn off.

Thank you so much for this!
Wait so why were you given 2 extra pieces with it? Are those just extra the white main flow thing and the black thing for replacement?
You use just 1 white (HEPA filter) and 1 black (carbon filter) to set up, they provide extra filters as well though.
Very good, hope you tell the cost
It's normally $129.99, but at the moment they're offering a $30 manufacturer's savings valid 3/10/21 through 4/4/21. While supplies last. Limit 2 per member.
Also, it is occasionally out of stock online but you may have better luck going in person to the store to see if it's in stock.
Thank you
Really useful!👍
How To Turn Wifi
There's a little button that looks like a wifi symbol (kind of looks like a pyramid made of curved lines). After you plug in the device, you can just hold that button and it will turn off. If there's no light on, it means the wifi is off.
Thank you, I just bought one 😁
I got one of these a while back it’s been about a year just replace the filters because it was making a weird noise and it’s still making that noise and it doesn’t operate like it used to anyone else have this problem
Dang, sorry to hear that, maybe something got loose or fell into the air purifier. I haven't had any issues with mine making weird noises... have you tried messaging their customer service email?
info@winixinc.com
Let me know what you hear back.
Made it so easy thankyou
If you’ve never used an air filter these are great. ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_dppjvjF8BYEmPSDTcgCUdRsgWYLXNHN I ended up with three after starting out with one. The noise level depends on the 1-3 settings with how hard you want the machine to work. You can also upgrade the filters and get one better for pet hair and smells which is a must have in my home. I noticed the air seemed lighter and easier to breathe when running the machine for the first time. Works great every time. Highly recommended!
Thank you. Clean 👍

Hi. What do you mean? I'm not sure what you're referring to.
Thanks! Good review!
Nice review, but would be helpful if you explained what each mode, such as night mode, did. Also to hold the camera still over the instructions so that pausing and reading if needed as you suggest would actually be possible.

Good stuff.
Very helpfull
Nice video. Unfortunately this is a crap unit, and in my case never goes below 1.0, and paying $59 for cheap filters is extortion.
😃🌹
Why do you have to turn off the plasma button when your at home and what does it do
Plasma mode creates small amounts of ozone which can be harmful. It's not a dangerous level It's just an extra precaution.
