    Enjoyed the video. The drone work is a great feature. I would encourage you to read David Roberts "Lost World of the Old Ones." Hopefully it will change your thoughts and dialog some. Not a fan of the new age music which has no relation to the featured cultures then or now and might mislead the uninitiated.

      Even tho it's harder to get a nice picture,I'm glad they installed the fence. I've seen photos of people leaning on ruins and it is common for people to touch or do pencil rubbings on paper over petroglyphs etc...

    I always appreciated the actual hand prints placed onto a rock face, probably with a blooded hand. The iron in the blood leaving the permanent stain.

    newspaper Rock road... There is a very nice canyon ranch on the flats along the south side of this road... I wish I had the balls to go there and visit the owners for a nice chat..... Do not wanna get shot at though!.... A few miles west from this rock, up the road, there are some vermilion cliffs where people are always climbing the face, free and some with ropes. Crazy to watch. Like ants. Further, to the end, there is a park area with petrified sand dune mounds which makes for an interesting fun day hike around what was an edge of a dried up lake, I think.... BEWARE the pack rat nests though and touching things with bare hands then mouth.. you CAN easily pick up Hanta virus here in these west desert sites. Pack Rats are the vectors. Neat trip up this SOUTHERN CanyonLands N.P. road.
    was there in early May, 2013. Then on to Butler Wash and next day, Natural Bridges Nat. Monument....

    It's interesting to see that they rode horses, but we've always believed that the first horses came here from the Spanish conquistadors. Also, we know that the Indians chiefly drug their supplies from two limbs pulled by horses but the petroglyphs very clearly show wagon wheels, but no wagons. Something ain't lining up. Any explanations offered?

    • @storiesbyalex
      @storiesbyalex  4 года назад

      Rand, thanks for watching and your comments. Throughout the world there are many variations of the circle with hundreds of simple or intricate designs within the circle. This one just happens to look like a wagon wheel. Or perhaps the petroglyph is historic vs very ancient as there were several different native groups that placed their symbols on the boulder. The first set of petroglyphs are believed to be 2,000 years old. Therefore, we cannot tell for sure what many of the symbols mean because these symbols were placed there without any known history of the meaning of many of these petroglyphs. They have been lost in time.......................alex

      @yousurf374 3 года назад

      it is quite possible that modern peoples (last 300 yrs) had added to these pictogrpah/petroglyph sites... no way to know if so, or not. You could add one tomorrow, but be an idiot for doing so........ LOL.

    • @yousurf374

      @@storiesbyalex concentric circles could be days walk from the center site "YOU ARE HERE".... shows direction to go possibly river squiggle cutting through, marks for villages and amount of days to get there. I had wondered of the wagon wheel one... may be a more modern scratch onto the rock, by Nat. Amer. or whomever.... no way to tell. Could be from 1850 for all we know.

    • @storiesbyalex
      @storiesbyalex  6 лет назад

      Hello StarFlower, some footprints are those of animals. Also, some of the lore and storytelling of native cultures involved people who could transform themselves into animals. But, this is speculation on my part as the actual meaning of many of these symbols has been lost in time.......alex

    • @musicalala

      Some Shamans had polydactyl, meaning they have extra digit on their feet or hands. It was considered special and you were revered for this. Imagery on petroglphs and pictographs could be a reference to Ancestral Puebloan Shamans.

      and we do not know if any modern men/women, whether native amer or pioneer passing through , or wandering mormons had added art to these rocks ... Hope not, but we shall never know. I like the ones that suggest a space traveler......

    What do you mean by Birthing rock?

    • @storiesbyalex
      @storiesbyalex  5 лет назад +2

      Cwb0051, the name ascribed to the large boulder is because of speculation that one of the petroglyph images on the boulder depicts a birthing scene. Perhaps, only the person producing this image could say for sure what its true meaning is and that person has long since departed.....................alex

    Bow and arrow didn't come into use in Americas til after Spanish took over.

    • @storiesbyalex
      @storiesbyalex  4 года назад +1

      Hello Susan, thank you for watching the film and your comment. There are several dates where the history of the use of the Bow and Arrow in North America are documented through analysis of artifacts found during archaeological research, which all pre-date the arrival of the Spaniards. There were at least four waves of bow and arrow use in northern North America. These occurred at 12,000 , 4,500 , 2,400 , and after about 1,300 years ago. These earliest dates (12,000) is from the natives in the Alaska region..........................alex

      for all we know, some of these scratch images were put there in 1880, or even 1920..... maybe even by some white pioneers, just to put a mark on it. NO WAY TO KNOW ..... hELL, TOMORROW, there could be three stoners passing through on tour, get stoned, and put their own markings on the rock. Who would know but for any secured photos and analysis diagrams from earlier archaeology. Even you could go there next week and put up a pictograph, with a pointy sharp rock or knife.... you would be an idiot to do so, but generally, that road is not traveled much most of the time, being a dead end way up.

    • @gergled2846ify
      @gergled2846ify 3 года назад

      There were also images of riders on horses with bows. There were no horses here since prehistoric times until after the arrival of the Spanish, so those would date to around 500 or fewer years ago.
