    • @Elliottklassen
      @Elliottklassen 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@teeemm9456 I mean, I get your point, but Coleman has been far from untouchable in the 60m, seeing as he lost this year to Lyles (not at worlds, but earlier) and last world champs to Jacobs. I'd say something like Holloway in the 60mH rather than the 110mH or Swoboda in the women's 60m vs the 100m. One athlete that is actually untouchable in the shorter distance and another who goes from average amongst pros in the longer distance to one of the best in the shorter.

    2:10 shows you why the slowest, heaviest player in the NFL is still more athletic than any normal person. I love watching people talk about "Oh I could take this guy" or "I could outrun him he's slow" NAH BRO. 360+ pounds of bullrush will come at you WAY faster than you can ever react.

    • @PessimisticRavensFam

      But you also got to account for the fact that he’s much older.

    • @teeemm9456
      @teeemm9456 6 месяцев назад +15

      Normal person? He's mid 50s and obviously not in "athletic" shape. Normal people have categories too, some 40 year old dude that played rec sports but maintains a decent workout and weight can probably still beat most of the big linemen with cleats and a little practice in the 40YD. Now drop it to a 21 year old in the same situation, and he'll do even better.

    • @leafan101
      @leafan101 6 месяцев назад +2

      Fair point. But also, if it is just about speed, I, a recreational sports player and former college hockey player, would definitely be faster than a lot of the heavier guys in the NFL. They are not paid for their 40 yard dash, and neither am I, but at least I know how to run and weigh 200lbs less than they do.

    • @spdcrzy
      @spdcrzy 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@leafan101 faster? Yes. More athletic? Probably not. There's a difference between being athletic and being "fast". NFL athletes are EXPLOSIVE, even the slowest ones. They generate a lot of accurate power very, very quickly - and make it look easy in the process. Running is one thing, but accelerating from zero to running that quickly with that much mass isn't a skill that's present in any other sport.
      COMBINE that with the stamina and closing speed some of the leaner guys have, and that's a deadly skillset. That's why a lot of football guys will talk about the "motor" - the ability of a player to generate an explosive amount of acceleration VERY quickly. Running backs are a great example. They have to ramp their power production up and down very quickly and shift LOTS of weight at unreasonable angles while keeping their vision open and slipping blocks.

    • @leafan101
      @leafan101 6 месяцев назад +5

      @@spdcrzyAgain, your points are fairly reasonable, but probably not inclusive enough. It is hard to actually define the words "athletic" and "explosive". Tour de France cyclists look as thin as rakes next to most athletes, yet if you were to measure their peak power output pedaling on a bike, there isnt a single NFL player who could even come close to that number, despite their legs being 5 times as thick and despite the fact that in a leg press, the nfl player could push like 10 to 15 times more weight at least. It is all about specialization, and the NFL is probably more specialized than most teams sports, though is definitely more generalist than most individual sports, like cycling. Another example would be skating vs. running. Despite being similar activity from a cardiological point of view, the way the muscles are used is distinctly different. You could teach an NFL player all the technical skill they would need to skate fast in probably a month or two. But the fact is, it would take a long time before the muscles were trained properly. An NFL who never trained in skating would take months or years before they could approach the speed of even an amateur hockey player who has been skating since they were a kid. And vice versa. And in the more specialized sports like cycling, it might take 5 to 10 years of training before the muscles had adapted enough to compete even at the amateur level.
      In sports, it is important to recognize that being great in one does not necessarily equate to overall greatness. The most generalist sports like Rugby might be more adaptable to more things, but they will never equal a specialist in their own turf, like a NFL receiver in speed. A specialist like a cyclist will be so well adapted to their sport that it is pretty much impossible that anyone not training in the sport since later childhood could ever catch up to them. Somewhere in the middle, skewing to one side or the other depending on position (QBs to the generalist side, D-line to the specialist side, for example), are NFL players. It is pointless to argue about relative athleticism: all athleticism is relative.
