Actors have unions and contracts that protect their image in ways the law doesn't naturally cover in the US. Unless Robin is in a union or had the foresight to have Matt's production company sign an image clause, claiming damages due to fraud will be an uphill battle. If Matt actually paid her the $15,000, she can't claim she was defrauded of money. And she can't claim slander because the words that damage her financially are coming out of her own mouth. They don't really have a claim for Fraud as they did not "Mis-represent" her. The documentary just shows their conversation as recorded. Nothing in the interview makes her look bad beyond her own beliefs. She is a fool, and thus looked bad in an interview. Trying to sue for that is absurd. They could say that the interview was fraudulent, but they paid her for her time and the contract obviously would stipulate that they could do whatever they wanted for the film. The only thing they could argue is that the documentary had a different name in the advertisement, which is up for argument if that is fraud or not. It's still a documentary, your interview is largely unchanged. The fact the documentary isn't "anti-racist" is subjective and opinion based. It would be a VERY flimsy fraud case.
They couldn't even really sue for having a different title on the advertisement. Having a different, "working title" whilst in the middle of production is standard practice.
All of her writings should prove that she was not misrepresented.

The word "racist" has been so diluted that it holds virtually no meaning anymore. Difference is Robin Diangelo is not an actress and ironically that makes claiming fraud more difficult. Actors have unions and contracts that protect their image in ways the law doesn't naturally cover in the US. In cases where actors sue a production company about their image being damaged in a film they are in, it is strictly prosecution based on breech of contract.
Unless Robin is in a union or had the foresight to have Matt's production company sign an image clause, claiming damages due to fraud will be an uphill battle.
If Matt actually paid her the $15,000, she can't claim she was defrauded of money. And she can't claim slander because the words that damage her financially are coming out of her own mouth. She can't claim they tricked her into saying things she doesn't believe because certainly all her publications are congruent with what she said. Not to mention, Matt can possibly claim he was conducting investigative journalism, which comes with certain protections under the law.
Good point - What Matt was doing isn't all that different from what James O'Keef does with his hidden camera reports, and it's hard to imagine anyone suing him for exposing what people actually believe.
