This brief comparative rundown was more informative than the typical 25 minute video of a rambling narcissist. Thank you!

the guy of the video LOVES the Salkantay Trek, it is so clear! I did the Inka Trail and have to mention that it was amazing. It is not crowded since the government regulates the capacity of people, is well preserved since is the original Inka path that the Inkas built years ago, you barely walk next to others doing the trek because each one has their own speed and "the crowded" depends on how many people are in your group. My group was just 12 and it was perfect. You don´t share your group´s space with other groups so you never actually realized that you are 500 people walking at the same time. Each group has their own space way apart from each other. Also, they closed in February because is rainy season and it is dangerous to do the Inka Trail since it has many stairs and they are tiny, you definitely need to use trekking sticks. Also, is more demanding since no one carries the bags for you, in the Salkantay trek the horses do that job. More young people do the Salkantay trek since is cheaper and more accesible than the Inka Trail because you can book it once you are in Cusco. Even during the Salkantay trek, you have a "drink night" and also have the opportunity to get refresh on the river. Another important point is that the last day of the Salkantay trek you sleep in a town called "Aguas Calientes" and from there you walk or take a bus to Machu Picchu next to the other tourists...which is equal to TONS of people. As someone mentioned below, in the Inka Trail you cross the "Gate Sun" very early in the morning so you don´t have to access with many other tourists... the experience is very spiritual. Both are different ways to get to Machu Picchu, both are good, depends on what you are looking for.

Thanks for this useful and interesting report about the 2 most famous trails. One comment about an important fact which has no been indicated in your report : the INCA TRAIL offers the opportunity to reach Maccu Piccu from the top of the mountain, and crossing the "gate of sun" . There, you don't have to access with thousands of tourists from the valley (train, road, bus, souvenir shops, etc...) which is 3 times more spiritual and fantastic than ALL other trails which are NOT reaching really maccu piccu, but just end in the touristic main entrance... That is why i choosed Inca trail, even the cost is 3 times more expensive. Inca trail allow you to use the historic inca route, crossing MANY ruins. Other trails will not allow you to visit ruins but seeing amazing scenery and landscapes. If the interest is about INCA history, ruins and spiritual route, INCA TRAIL is the right choice. Thanks again

There is an other path, crossing from the salcantay trail to the incatrail passing thru the inca chirsska pass at 5,200 mts a then you take the incatrail.

So you can start Salkantay without a guide, then cross over to Inca still without a guide ? My main reason for Salkantay is not needing a guide as it makes it far more affordable. Also would it be possible to do Salkantay up, and then Inca down without a guide or are they very strict with checking ?

Rawa Lee the inka trail usually usually costs around 450 - 600 dollars including everything, you just need to take care of your clothes. I have payed 450 two years ago. All travel agencies include the same. The salkantay is around 200-250 dollars and you can book it once you are in Cusco. :)
Hope I have answered your question.
