    I can't get over how thick those cylinder walls are. That is an engine that was truly built to run forever(-ish)

    Another great video showing the how and why of taking your time to do it the right way. Looks like you might just save those pistons and liners for another block.

    Don't you just love it when something like that happens? Who knows, with your patience and know how you might even be able to salvage the whole engine. Wishing you the best of luck. I'll be watching; thanks again.

    That's a good sign, isn't it? The crankshaft is moving,.so you might get more serviceable parts that previously thought, that's always a good thing.
    Thanks for this report on progress.
    I'll be waiting for more.

    Mr. Squatchly: when using one nut above the other to remove any bolt, for we mechanics this is called a jam nut. Usually when used to hold a loose position, the jam nut is only 1/2 as thick as the holding nut when used while the engine is running or building fab.

    Don't you love those Sweet little Surprises,,,, I discovered by using a 50/50 mixture of Acetone,& Synthetic ATF which is half the molecule size of Any penetrating fluid on the market,,, this will penetrate anything even if it's fuse together,,, I'm restoring a 1960 F100 4 by 4 I have yet to twist off or ruined one nut and bolt on this vehicle by using this mixture,,, Excellent video, methodical breakdown.

    • @FadedPaintGarage
      @FadedPaintGarage 5 лет назад

      I use this mix now all the time instead of PB Blaster, it's awesome. Though I'm using regular ATF with Acetone not synthetic, might have to try synthetic now.

    Thanks for the update, there are many times i've found this old stuff throws you a nice surprise instead of a bad one. That block might still get the gallon of flex seal and some gorilla tape then L.O.L it looks like you got way more snow here than we do at the moment In Manitoba , but that could change again this week, more's in the forecast. Take care

    If that #1 is still stuck, it's in the perfect position to dump a cup of diesel in, light it, and let it burn out. The heat from the fire is often enough to break the piston free. Only caveat is it's inside and doesn't look like you can roll it out easily... So don't burn the shop down.

      @super6954 5 лет назад +1

      I tried it on a 4 cylinder Fordson E27N motor that all 4 were stuck and fluid wouldn't run down past the rings, I was told use a mix of diesel and motor oil for a better hotter fire. I tried carefully jacking the pistons using a bottle jack and hard wood block in the bore and chain round the block to push against.
      It wouldn't budge even with removing the rust I could see. I heated it for a while with the fire in the bores, and it did free off and turn over after moving it with the jack and swapping a few cylinders to push the other way a few times. The block was frosted junk like this one, i just did it to see if it would work I've never tried it again.
      A buddy of mine filled his Perkins P6 cylinders with evaporust type liquid after cleaning the worst rust and water out, that worked to after a few days. his motor had sat out 20 years with the head off, so was a right mess before he got it.

    Irregardless of a job having a good thing happen is always a plus. Maybe just mabe that block maybe repairable. If no damage is found on the blocks inner walls about 5 lbs of brass rod might be installed to reseal the O'l girl... ??????
    I came across a D-2. On long Island over by Ilwaco Washington, the head was off it it's been there like that for years. The casting looks like the track shoes. Dark rust and growing thiings on it. That one was a cable blade. Best of luck to you...

    That's great! Sounds like you can likely save the pistons and probably cylinder liners.
    I don't know much about blocks with removable liners. When you pull the liners, will you be able to see the back of those cracked frozen-out water passages in the side of the block, or are they still farther away?

  • @sshep7119
    @sshep7119 5 лет назад +1

    I used to deal with rusted solid muscle car era blocks a lot. I have always thought about using a thinned out fill of penetrating fluid, and putting a small vibrating electric toothbrush in the bore for a bit of time. I always wondered if the agitation of the fluid would help work the penetrant into the small spaces that the penetrant would not diffuse into normally, almost like a sonic cleaner. I can't vouch for it, as i never have tried it, but if things go south what is there to loose. The science behind it makes it seem at least plausible. I hate to see stuff like this engine go to scrap.

    You are pretty fortunate to be able to move that. I am not patient, but I get it. If you can salvage a piston, rod and sleeve, that is a win with these old engines. Is this a wet sleeve engine?
