I'm brazilian and I don't know why these guys are so undervalued in my country, they won almost every tournaument in this past 10 years, they are probably the best volleybal team of all times and the cursed media still insists in giving the majority of attention to those soccer mercenaries players who play for money.

Ricardinho Garcia (fantastic), Sergio Escadinha (best libero), Giba (just the best), Andre Nascimento (the best left player), Dante Amaral (today the best player in the world), Gustavo Endres (the king of the Block!)... and still had Anderson, Rodrigão, Andre Heller, Murilo Endres... omg that team
you can see the importance of a high pass here. the Brazilian setter is able to look at his attackers/blockers and know exactly where to set the ball. Brilliance

The liberos ability to read the server is ridiculous. You hear about reading hitters but never servers. Half a second before the server makes contact hes already taken a step in the right direction.

well his son didnt play that much in the olympics as far as i know and he had some good serve substitutions, every time he served the americans had to go to their second options, but dont get me wrong i absolutely hate that ricardo isnt playing for brazil right now, he was just amazing...
@DatSexyBeast100 He's called a libero. Basically he is the Defensive Specialist that's always on the court. He can't attack or set in front of the 10 foot line. Probably the most essential player on the court
I think that dante is a better attacker, he gets higher, but i think that giba is a more complete player. he can pass, hit, block and he makes insane digs. so i would go with giba.

Brazil played with three of their starting players from the Olympics. Giba, Sergio and Murilio. The US played with three of their starting players. Stanley, Lee and Lambourne. Still Brazil was the best team there. and everyone was changing their playing style.

Historically Brazil is no doubt the best (unless you count the Soviet Union, they'd be the most dominant overall but it's just Russia now), but in the past year USA has been completely dominant up until now, and Matt Anderson, 6'10" OH isn't healthy and they're reintroducing Clay Stanley to the national team. Brazil is prolly the best in the world right now but the USA has a lot of newer players and a new coach so you can't judge them yet. It's too early in the post-Olympic season to judge.
You can't say anyone is best yet, lots of teams had players retiring (especially USA) after the Olympics, and they're all still trying to find the best starting lineup. A lot of teams are also bringing on young guys, so they haven't become as much of a team as they will be in 4 years. In the USA they're also adjusting to a new coach with a new style. Both teams are amazing, no need to compare who's better after only a few tournaments.
Maurício was better than Ricardo, and it wasn't the end of Brazil's volleyball after he retired. Ricardo is better than Marcelo, no doubt, but it is proved that everybody in the team can be replaced. Can you think of a spiker better than Giba? Will it be the end when he retires? I doubt.
