I met Chuck back in '85 when he had his shop in Upland,CA. I drew the phantom view of his 550 for the brochure when I was a student at Art Center College. He was just completing car #75 and gave me a thrilling fast ride it his own car with a racing VW motor in it. I came back later and he was building his 911 powered car with a double tubed chassis. Great guy and I'm happy to see he and his son are doing well.

Ordered my Beck Spyder last week. In about 2 years from now (July 2023) I should be taking delivery. Big thanks to the Becks and Hines for their continued commitment. They build the stuff dreams are made of.

What was the process like? And if you don't mind telling us what the cost was. I want to order one as well and have it for my 50th birthday as a gift to myself.

What I love most about this and the other Chuck beck video, is that he and his son seem so genuine. Chuck is a living legend. He could tell you guys to get bent, but instead they trailer a car for you to do a video on. Chuck seems so happy to not only tell a story or two, but show off his passion. He seems to enjoy it as much as you guys do. I love watching these videos, and thanks to Chuck and his son for allowing us such an intimate look at their cars. Great video guys.

My dad bought a Beck in Santa Clara CA in 1989 from the Beck dealer at the local gas station. A few years later when he had moved to Menlo Park he had a get together with other locals at his home, 4 or 5 Becks present. Dad was proud that he finagled a real Beck bonnet emblem away from Chuck.

7 years ago I was at Cars 'n Coffee in Atlanta. I had just moved there. I pulled my 550 Spyder up to others in the lot. I introduced myself. I said, "Hi, I am Chas". He said "Hi I am Chuck". Another owner told me his last name. I about fainted. I then secured his autograph.

The guy I sold mine to, in Arizona tried to take me to Court, because it wasn't able to pass smog. in Arizona, and In Cailifornia it was registered as Special Construction, and no one wanted to insure it. It ran Hot all the time and didn't handle as well as My Honda accord. 16 seconds in the quarter mile, at 87 MPH...I was in it 19K in 1987, and sold it for 13K...so no harm,no foul.... I wanted one at age 11, and bought it at age 43.

I grew up on a farm driving VW Beetles since I was seven. I can only imagine how much fun it is to have a mid ship air cooled 120hp motor in a 1200 pound car. There is nothing so fun as a purely analogue light stick shift car. This one also looks terrific. I doubt they can be brought into Canada, but if so it just replaced the Shelby AC Cobra as my dream ride.

So... as Mr. Beck recited the figures, we weren’t prepared for exactly how the car would be. It was an experience that compares to nothing outside of the original. It tops our list of impractical cars to own.

It is a little like owning 4 cyl Yammaha XS 1100 Special for many years. Sudden death if something goes wrong. Fair weather motoring only for a couple months each year in Toronto. But it delivered the most memorable driving experiences. Thank God I lived and sold it on.

Original 550 Spyder cars had the key on the right side from Porsche. Just emulating what was already done.

I had beek's kid build me a car, in 1987, and it was not what I thought, as It was not that fast, with 100 HP built VW engine, about 16 seconds in the quarter mile, and ran hot in anything but cold weather. paid 19 k ALL IN, and sold it four years later for 13k, in a bad market. Every one has one for about 5000 miles and then wants out, as it can't be seen well and was a Death TRAP IN NORMAL TRAFFIC, "The happiest day was when you bought it, succeed by the day you sold it" just like when talking about small Boats. The car in this Video, had 135 hp, and that made it a 13 second car...
