I would have liked to hear comments about the ride, handling, noise and comfort, compared to the previous generation Model X. This one has a new suspension, supposedly better sound isolation, and so on (assuming those features are similar to the changes in the latest Model S vs. the previous version).
We have a Model S and Model X Raven/Perf and now have Plaids also - working on selling the Ravens. Here's a quick take: The new suspension is much tighter and sportier than before - more taut, but still comfortable. The sound isolation is definitely improved - but not quite as big a leap as you might think. But the dual pane glass and a few other changes do make it more quiet. The stereo - IMHO - is a BIG improvement. Gone are ANY loose parts that could rattle or distort the sound. Everything is beefed up to handle the full 1000 watt output. The new materials are super nice- on the Plaid you'll find metal and Alcantara where you used to see plastic trim. The new carpet is deeper and more luxurious. Everything, every material is just a step better or nice, while still being familiar.
I own both a 2019 GLS and the new X (albeit long range, but except for the tri-motor drivetrain, it's identical). I can confidently say that it is a very comfortable car, and the ride is smooth. To be more specific, I think the two have very different types of comfort: the GLS is more of a couch; it has a plush ride that feels like pillows over bumps, which does mean, however, that there is a lot more lean, pitch, dive, and roll, making it less comfortable in that regard; in other words, the X deals with the bump in a more noticeable, yet much faster way. The seats are more conventional in the GLS and seemed almost too simple at first compared to an S class, but you never get fatigued. In the X, the seats are pretty much thin marshmallows if that makes sense; not too well bolstered, but you can sink into them when sitting properly. As for sound insulation, it is quieter in the X due to a lack of engine noise, and as for wind and tire noise, maybe maybe the GLS is quieter, but we are really splitting hairs here. Keep in mind I have the smallest available wheels on both cars: 19s on the GLS and 20s on the X. I noticed that the noise cancelling feature in the X isn't really noticeable until you listen to music: the 22 speaker sound system blows the GLS's Burmester out of the water with the right EQ calibration (which I found was by lowering everything to the minimum and heightening what you wanted to be more pronounced; that way the speakers aren't forcing certain noises out; they simply inhibit what you don't want to hear as much of); the sound system in the X is closer to a pair of open back headphones than it is of a stereo; you feel the sound of each instrument; no mushy middle sound, and a lot more bass available. I can't speak about the sound insulation and the suspension compared to the old X since I've only test driven it once back in 2015, but I think comparing it to the best similarly priced 3-row luxury SUV is a good reference point. Hope this helps. Edit: after a 7-hour road trip in the X, my points still stay true, although I will accentuate that the suspension is more taught and large bumps are more pronounced than in the GLS. I tried to take notes on my lap with the computer on the seat next to me in both cars now that I have done a road trip in the X as well, and while I had no issues in the GLS when I did a road trip in that car, I did get some back fatigue in the X, and my writing was a little more sloppy. I also want to point out that the suspension was in "low" during this road trip and I should have set it to high.
Great introduction and production, your reviews are leagues above the majority. Still not sold on the yoke, the brakes or the quality control of Tesla but they are growing on me.
Tesla has never been something i have been interested in. The quality has only gotten worse and the design is awful and literally 10 years old, nothing new. Those cost too much for how little you get. For the same price, get a Mercedes EQS or the EQE
@@poplaurentiu4148+ Rivian is on the same level as Lucid, in better words, trash. I want a car made by people that know what a car is. Those are just some Chinese people that just put plastic on a battery and sell it for tens of thousands. And 300 miles of range on a off-roader?! Thats pathetic!
@@polardabear Quality has only gotten worse ?!? You are criticizing a design because it is old ?! So a design became ugly just because it is starting to get old ? "cost too much for how little you get" ?! Just say you don't like Tesla because to each their owns. No need to do the bullshit talking. Some we prefer the general performance of a model S Plaid instead of the I imagine the luxury confort and perfect fit and finish of an Eqs. Plaid offers the best 1/4 time of production cars while costing 130 000$. And with few mods you can even have fun at track and destroy some supercars. And all that in a daily car that is confortable and that you can use for your vacation with your family. For 130 000$ there is no other car that can offer that. But of course if you don't care about doing the 1/4 mile faster than a Chiron, you don't really care about canyon driving, you don't like the look or the everything on screen or you don't care about supercharging network etc. Go for the Eqs.
@@polardabear you gotta remember when you buy a Tesla u also buy access to their supercharging infrastructure. Teslas not only can go farther than any other electric vehicle including the EQS but also have supercharging stations almost anywhere you go. @@Delitor Stopping power is always tied to the capabilities of the car, NOT the intended use case. If the justification of crappy brakes is "you shouldn't be on the track", then it's equally fair that a plaid trim with +1000hp shouldn't exist either.
Y’all are missing the point. It’s not about the track. (I know Thomas said you don’t want to track it) but it’s like the steering yoke. In a panic stop, will it?
One of the best points made, that yoke steering wheel would probably cause more problems if someone was trying to dodge an accident than not. I get it though that once the mind gets used to it that may lessen the chances. But still, it's just a design that I think goes too far. It's bad enough all buttons have been removed that a person has to depend on everything being on a screen.

@@VaunShiz what do you mean, misleading? I assume they normalize drag by some control speed of wind, and use finely calibrated equipment to calculate the amount of drag induced by the shape. Never thought I'd see the day, but Tesla is becoming the Corvette to the sports car world. Phenomenal performance for a bargain, but you have to look away from the build quality. I'm glad you guys mentioned the driver's door being off, but I saw it immediately in the earlier panning shot. Door handles were off, c pillar was misaligned, non uniform stitching.
It’s like that for my 2018 X. So many panels are horribly aligned 😅 it’s quite bad. Those Falcon doors, lol what alignment? Tesla really doesn’t seem to know the meaning of the word. @@LOVE-VIBES-X-PROJECT-CARS Any other SUV you want to get that comes close in performance will either be significantly more expensive, or significantly slower in a straight line. EV SUVs that come close to this performance doesn't even exist at this point. This is also true every single car that Tesla makes. No other EV in the respective class of the Model 3, Y, and S come close in performance, range, and charging infrastructure for the price. It's at a point where even comparable gasoline cars are often times more expensive. But as the OP said, the trade off (for the customer) is the build quality is not great in comparison to its competitors, hence the comparison to the Corvette.
@@rousseau327 ...... First question is why would you be buying an SUV for performance. Second question is if you're not looking for performance and you're looking for good build quality and a simple A to B suv what makes this a bargain to say for example a Toyota 4runner or Rav4
@@LOVE-VIBES-X-PROJECT-CARS Your first question is completely doesn't make sense, because people buy performance SUVs all the time from BMW, MB, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, etc. Why would you buy an SUV for performance? Because you have kids, you like the extra space, you like the extra ride height, or maybe you just like how an SUV looks, but you also like to go faster than anyone else with a normal SUV. The fact that Lamborghini made the Urus should tell you all you need to know about demand for performance in the SUV space. These buyers could have easily purchased a mid-tier X5 or GLE, but they went with M and AMG versions of it. Just because YOU don't care for performance in an SUV, doesn't mean other buyers don't. The fact that you're even bringing the Rav4 and 4Runner into this conversation is completely idiotic. Those cars are also bargains. They even more of a bargain than the Tesla is, cause they're way cheaper, very capable, reliable, and have good build quality. That does not mean the Tesla Model X is not a good bargain as well compared to other performance SUVs you can buy. Just because the 4Runner is a bargain relative to the Model X, doesn't mean the Model X isn't a bargain relative to a more expensive SUV, such as the Urus, or a Cayenne Turbo.

Agree with Tom on the need for brakes to match to Plaid version vehicle capabilities. Tesla needs to act on this advice. The Model S Plaid now has track mode - it and the Model X Plaid need track capable brakes IMO.
@@PassportGaming Because basic research is hard for car reviewers. The production quality on this channel is sublime but they miss a lot of little things.
@@alanshaji6 plaids should come with better brakes as stock, they are the sport versions after all. Forget the weight, anything that can accelerates quickly and has +1000 hp should be able to stop really well over and over again. For a normal model s or x these brakes are okay, they are pretty quick, but the brakes will get the job done. But you can't double the power and not touch the brakes. These are sport versions and they NEED better brakes, the cars are too heavy for them. Every other manufacturer does this, compare a normal bmw 320d to an M3, it doesn't just have a more powerful engine in it, everything is upgraded with the engine.
The idea behind not changing the external design of the car is that it costs more money and takes more time to do. Tesla wanted to get these refreshed model S's and X's in to production and to the consumer quickly and so re tooling the entire body shop, which would have taken a lot more time and money, was not an option. So tesla said screw it and stayed with the older design.
I have never purchased anything to support a youtube channel I like. The other day I ordered a hoodie from you guys. That is the highest compliment I can give you from some random fan lol. Thank you for the great content!
Also here's a thought, Tesla. Place the physical controls around the perimeter of the screen like a cell phone. Red for warmer, blue for colder, concave for volume down, convex for volume up etc.
I recently had an idea for hard button vs screen control: keep hard controls minimum (volume knob, and a couple others for HVAC). Then keep a blank slate area close at hand. Upon that slate you can place buttons/dials with neodymium magnets and wireless power. Simple toggles/switches dedicated to particular functions that YOU want. Some people want instant access to specific radio settings, others may not care, and want a heated steering button. Maybe a premium dial with an oled screen you can program to micro adjust drive settings, suspension height, or whatever. But you choose what additional dials/buttons you want, and can change them as you wish. Strongly stuck to the slate with magnets, and powered wirelessly. Maybe just a flat surface vertically under the screen, or horizontally near shifter.
I don’t know how you two don’t have your own TV show yet, you could be the Canadian/UK version of Top Gear. Always enjoy your content, thanks again for a great video
Good on you guys for calling out Tesla about the lack of brakes. Building a super car isn’t just about the acceleration or speed. You need a whole package.

I do hope they release carbon ceramics for the X like they're going to with the S. They'll likely make a huge difference. Also, incredible video as always!
Or just in general bigger break pads. Contrary to popular belief, carbon ceramics *dont* improve braking capability, they just last longer under heat. This car wont be used much for racing, so it wont need constant high speed braking. Thats why i believe, that just bigger break pads are needed for WHEN you need the breaking
@@sesto194 Oh, I know that, but the carbon ceramics for the S are significantly improved over the stock brakes in every way (bigger rotors and pads, more pistons, and come with high-temp brake fluid), so I just meant release the track pack brakes for the X as well.

They already have outside of the US. Americans still get cars from the old Fremont factory, whereas the rest of the world mostly gets them from Shanghai.
Probably because they're a relatively new car company. The first Model S came out in 2012. Combine that with the fact that there's a lot of demand for their cars.
Tesla owners claim not to care, yet NA Hyundai Ponies and gen 1 Excels had better quality of assembly even with lesser grade materials. Subpar assembly is to Tesla what IROC is to Camaro.
And the fact than you're paying that price mostly for batteries and not luxury trim or features. The tech is updated on the fly, so the cost isn't really going there. As has been beaten to death, these are not luxury cars.

Same can't be said with the EQS and you will be having a hard time with long trips. Further more the EQS is a slouch when it comes to acceleration and handling compared to almost any tesla.
Oh yes, as a father of four I was always after a 1020hp six seater with a steering "yoke" and no brakes!😂...and all for the low low price of $175,000 CAD🤣
The brakes are fine. Are you going to the track with your 2.5 ton suv? No you arent
@@Delitor Stopping power is always tied to the capabilities of the car, NOT the intended use case. If the justification of crappy brakes is "you shouldn't be on the track", then it's equally fair that a plaid trim with +1000hp shouldn't exist either.
@biblereader i have never in my whole life seen someone with for example go to the track with a dbx or a bentayga
@biblereader no? What are you talking about lol
I hated the yoke at first and even found a 3rd party replacement but now I love it. And the white seats are easy to clean.
The yoke doesn't feel that bad for normal driving.
You get used to it and I actually really like it now

@@YTU37 That's the point, you see, my 2010 Prius Gen 2 "egg" was the 2nd best production CAR at .25, which this (bigger) SUV has equalled in 12 years time. Great strides indeed.
@@scottstewart5784 cd is dimensionless, which makes it a bit of a "gotya" measurement in the car world. The cd of the tesla and of the prius may be the same, and yet the drag of either one could be substantially more, as you've still got to multiply cd by total frontal area to know anything useful. Most likely the Tesla has a larger frontal area, but either way the point stands.

Passenger fender isn’t lined up too great either, and varying other issues all around the car. However, still a great car.
Explain how this is a bargain. Like aren't these things almost 6 figures to over 6 figures.

Model S plaid now has package for better breaks costs 20k extra
Strange considering they have the most

I own this. It's been 2 months. Absolutely love it
Also here's a thought, Tesla. Place the physical controls around the perimeter of the screen like a cell phone. Red for warmer, blue for colder, concave for volume down, convex for volume up etc.
If you hold your finger on the “button” you can slide to each extreme

Why can’t Tesla get quality control right?
Their customer base doesn't care, so they don't have to get it right
They already have outside of the US.
