Thank you so much for sharing with these fantastic women. Those of us who have experienced religious life quickly understand the wild misconceptions people have and, it's most refreshing to see them address these sometimes ridiculous ideas. When a monk was seen chopping firewood, teenagers fell all over themselves and one insisted that the only thing we do is pray. They had no clue that the Benedictines built the basic infrastructure for medieval Europe. A sad commentary on our current situation. Pax
As a former religious I can tell you that the biggest misconception about religious life is that the clothing equates with holiness of life. I've known sisters who didn't wear a habit or wore a modified habit who were excellent religious. The converse is true as well. What makes a religious (and religious communities)holy or not holy is integrity in living out the vows and observance of their rules and Constitutions. Thank you for the vide, though. Hopefully it will cause some reflection about the true nature of religious life. Thank you.
The "losing your individuality in holiness" thing is something I think about a lot. I worry that, whether through sanctification or in Heaven, I'll cease to be the me that I know, and essentially lose my personality. I fear we'll be like a "hivemind" in Heaven like robots without any thinking. But as a pretty humorous guy, I think I'll keep my lighthearted sincerity as I go on in life. As a guest once said on this show, Heaven is all the good and beautiful parts of life, and Hell is all the discordant and horrible parts of life. So in Hell, we're the worst versions of ourselves (angry, lustful, greedy, etc.) but in Heaven we're simply all of our good qualities with none of the pain or badness.
It takes a cursory look at the life of the Saints to see Gods marvelous diversity in his creation. For those are people whom truly became what they were called to be and set the world ablaze.
All very true. Interesting point about the call to a celibate life kind of "over-rulling" the call to marriage but that someone could, in a sense, have a call to both. I will have to ponder that one!
Some nuns these days don't wear any habits just ordinary everyday clothing, the 2 nuns we used to have in our parish had white under their head covering, one ended up in an old people's house and the other was ordered back to the Convent in London, sadly here in England, nuns are an ageing stock, just like the priests, the younger generation just don't want to take the vow to be of any religious orders, and the few that do is just not enough to replace the ones who have already passed on, a number of places of worship have closed and many converted to things like clubs or houses ect, some are pulled down for redevelopment of the grounds to car parks ect,

Maybe that, will catch on in Beloved England. God, richly bless you🙏🙏🙏
Is being a Nun a lifetime commitment? Or might a woman come in and out of being a Nun for the course of her life? Maybe she does it as an older woman or a younger woman and then before after she has a career and family? I'm curious.
When joining a religious order you would not probably plan on just staying for a short period. You can leave the order before you make final vows though ( which is after a certain period of time in the order. )
A married woman can be a nun if her husband is deceased and once her kids are older and able to care for themselves. Also, a woman can always leave the covenant, but it is a more difficult after she has made her final vows. But, women who enter the covenant do so planning to stay there their whole life.
So it may work differently in different places. But from my understanding, you technically can from where these two are from. Although it is disliked(that's why the discernment process takes quite a long time)
There was a science fiction comedy television series in America back in the 1960s called the flying nun, I think they showed a repeat of it in England, late last century, so the answer is only in science fiction or in an aeroplane or helicopter in real life,
People who desire marriage, sex, and children should not be abstinent: “To the unmarried and the widows I say that it is good for them to remain single, as I am. But if they cannot exercise self-control, they should marry. For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” This is why Paul didn’t enroll young women into the order of widows. Forced celibacy is one of Rome’s worst ideas. Not even the first Pope was celibate/unmarried.
Lack of self-control is not the same thing as natural desire. For how can you exercise the virtue of control if you don’t even desire the object/situation you seek control over in the first place. Many saints have written on this. Aka the famous prayer of St Augustine ( “ make chaste but not yet”)…and why even though he struggled at first , he eventually persevered and became a celibate bishop. And every Christian should be thankful for his perseverance for he played a big role in putting together the New Testament.
@@sfrance8036 "For it is better to marry than to burn with passion.” Burning with passion is natural desire. Paul told husbands and wives to only abstain from sex for short periods of time because of the risk of temptation. Imagine telling Paul that people with natural desire have embraced that temptation permanently and are going to abstain forever.

Very good use of your time.

There is difference between a hijab and a nuns habit is the latter is a choice that is willingly accepted
Yeah of course because the media tells us to believe that and the media tells nothing but the truth.
@paxChristi123what about what’s happening in Iran?
Many wear hijab of their own choice although in some places it is forced
