Just look at how big the PDC World Darts championship has gotten ever since Priestley won it 30 years ago in 1994, now 30 years later, all different types of darts players from all different countries are playing against the best players in the world. Just think, if the PDC wasn’t around, we wouldn’t even have televised darts like we have today! Circus Tavern & Alexandra are the home of world darts!!!
It's amazing how in his first win MVG was getting booed, now in every single match he plays unless it's a special player for the fans against him, he hears the Oh Michael Van Gerwen chant. What a story
I think to be fair they were just supporting the Wright comeback as they wanted the match to continue and to see a classic. Wright was priced as big underdog going into that final, MVG had just beaten Adrian Lewis 6-0.

Question is, if he could do it in front of a crowd. He was strong mentally back then, had great season. Now he seems quiet fragile when it comes to deal with pressure.

Crazy that Taylor picked up 14k for winning in '96. I think you get more than double that for winning a euro tour event now
I mean, I looked it up now, at the upcoming PDC World Darts Championship, you get 15,000 GBP just for making it into Round 2. Round 3 gets 25,000 GBP, Round 4 gets 35,000 GBP, reaching the QF gets you 50,000 GBP, the semi finalists get 100,000 GBP each, getting into the final is rewarded with 200,000 GBP and the 2024 World Champion gets a cheque worth 500,000 GBP.
Fallon Sherrock gets that in appearance fees (No, it's not completely true. But it sounded good)

its unbelievable how Darts as a sports turned professional over the decades. Its amazing on which level the top 20 players are compared to what they were back in 1995 or 2000
Even crazier to me is how Phil Taylor was still showing up in the finals or winning the titles, shows just how class he was
Phil with his average in the 1998 finals would win against any single one of the 2020s finalists.
Now you can add:
Luke Humphries (2024, 7-4 vs Luke Littler - finishing on double 8)

that 2003 win by John Part was the darting equivalent of climbing mt. everest. Taylor was on an EIGHT world titles on the trot winning streak, had won the pervious two finals 7 - 0, one of them against Part himself, and would go on to win the next three on the trot after as well
Living in China, staying up until 4/6am to watch the final is so damn easy when they throw as well as these guys! I can't bloody wait for this Friday! And since everyone is quite inconsistent at the moment, I think picking a winner is a hard task! I don't envy the bookies!

The fact that Phil is a 14 Time PDC World Champion & 16 Time overall and the next closest is Van Gerwen With 3 is wild. He was so Dominant. You have to feel a little bad for Dennis Priestly he faced him 5 Times in the Final.

Actually, over his entire career, Phil Taylor averaged a 101.28...by far the highest average ever. And that's while often playing with substandard darts and boards compared to modern ones.
Plus he has the highest average ever played in a WC final
he still holds the highest average for a world championship final of 110. pretty sure he averaged 107 in 2 world finals as well about 15 years before anyone else did it again
And still has a tournament record of nearly 112 that’s another record that will never be beaten

The match referee also gets a jolt and his announcement of Taylor’s victory gets interrupted for a second or two, which I strangely find hilarious. “GAME, AND THE NINETEEN NINETY-…” (BLAM!)

First one to beat the Nuke after the Worlds. Littler has earned his spot to play against all of the seasoned veterans. He's beaten every one of the World Champions of the past since the first of the year. Think about where he will be in 5 years keeping this pace. Littler has everything to his advantage. Age is huge at this time in the PDC coupled with his past performances since the Worlds. MVG should feel good winning this title. He about lost this tournament. Great job Littler! Phil Taylor showed no mercy to Manley, white-washed him twice. Did it to poor Priestley too just once.
Taylor dominated in a time where it seemed like the competition in the PDC felt a little scarce and he took great advantage of it. Not to doubt his skill in any way.
These days, the PDC competition is incredibly heated and there's so much more in the pool that it can be anyone's game, at any time. Which makes the back to back wins of Lewis and Anderson impressive in that sense that the competition around them was heating up.
As to who will be crowned 2024 champion? It's anyone's guess, but I don't really see Michael Smith defending it very well after the year he's had this year since winning his first. It's either going to be MVG or Humphries who has been making quite a statement in the past few events.
