Step 2: Open the virtual machine settings you created and click Add Hardware, then click Network Adapter and click the OK button.
Step 3: Run the virtual machine and check if it is connected to the #Internet.
Step 4: If there is no External Switch in the virtual machine, it will not be able to connect to the internet.
Step 5: Now, turn off the #VM and open the virtual machine settings.
Step 6: Add a new Network Adapter in the Add Hardware window. And configure the Network Adapter you added as External Switch.
Step 7: Run the Hyper-V VM and open Internet Explorer to test the internet connection.

this video definitely worked for me. so good job on that. It would be great if Microsoft made connectivity a bit easier though.

hi..this works, partially. when I change my server VM IP to a static one, I lose internet connection via external switch adapter. seems like my VM can only access internet of my local machine if the VM has a dynamic IP. please help

The default gateway probably needs to be the IP of the host... And the VM IP, mask, and Default Gateway all have to identify the same network.

if you made an external switch then what is the point of the first internal switch you made it? it doesn't make sense, you could have just made it external in the first place without all that hassle.

NightCoreStudio I tried that to begin with and it didn't work and so I tried this method and for some reason things worked. it's kind of annoying to get stuff working for sure.

It allows you to communicate with the other virtual machines without causing an IP conflict with machines on your home network--he probably did this because most people naturally use the 192.168.1.x ip scheme when they create their own networks. You can probably skip this step if you A) have no other machines on your network. OR B) subnet and assign addresses that don't use the default scheme of most wireless routers

Such Set up causes issues with port forwarding with some routers. (Google WIFI here). G Wifi seems to balance the DHCP status with one of the VM or the Host but never all at once.

Same here. I'm trying to connect to the internet from a Linux VM in hyper V for 3 days trying a couple dozen "solution" and none work. I want to use VirtualBox but this corporate PC I'm using must be using virus software that uses virtualization which is preventing me from choosing 64 bit OSes which pretty much negates every Linux distro today. Try installing Oracle Linux Server 7.5 32 bit. There is no such thing, only 64 bit. So I gave hyper V a shot and I can install 64 bit Linux just fine and even the network status says connected but if I open FireFox I can't access any website, including google.com. I never had to tweak any network settings using VirtualBox. Frustrating. In task manager under performance there's a value called Virtualization and it should display Enabled, which mine does. Any way, I'm not having any issues using 64bit Linux other than no internet.
