    June schedule is murderers row. Dodgers, Padres, Angels all on the road then 2 series with Astros & Marlins. After June we will know exactly what this team is.

    The best threat in their division is themselves… they are their own worst enemy and if they get over that hump, they can win the World Series

      I said the exact same thing. Its themselves!!! They just need to go out and play their game and yes 100 percent by the trade deadline they need more offensive firepower because no way come playoff time this team will beat the Dodgers or heck even struggle vs Brewers with the offensive line-up we have rite now. We have already seen plenty of games where we barely score again!!!

    Suggestion for the SNY graphics people: the orange bar at the bottom of the thumbnail looks very similar to the RUclips already watched progress bar. Sometimes I think I already watched a video so I skip it until I realize it’s part of the thumbnail.

    On 8/1/21 the Mets had the lead in the NL East by 4 games. Beside the Braves the biggest threat to the Mets is themselves.

    Pop doesn't equal runs....moving base runners equals runs. We don't need guys hitting 30+ homeruns. I'd like to see a few guys with 75+ RBI's and .290 BA. We're playing good small ball right now and we're winning....should tell you something.

    • @michaelsherron5750
      @michaelsherron5750 2 года назад +1

      In the Playoffs hitting, getting on base moving the runner over and RBI's are the biggest keys over hitting it out of the park. That PLUS shutdown pitcihng.

      JD Martinez would be perfect. A pure hitter with good slugging. A hard out (like most of the lineup). Would slot into cleanup spot perfectly.

      @@matthummel1279 So you wanna move Pete out of the clean up and put JD Martinez in there???

    • @matthummel1279
      @matthummel1279 2 года назад

      @@Sabo3081 I guess have him and JD at 3-4. I'll let you choose coach ;) We are really going to need slugging and JD Martinez has that along with a hitting philosophy that fits this team. He consistently drives in runs and would hopefully not cost the farm given his age and contract.

    • @Sabo3081
      @Sabo3081 2 года назад

      @@matthummel1279 I am not denying JD Martinez as being a great pick up. I'm just not going to move Alonso from clean up. He is in a groove right now and I wanna ride that wave. Let him continue to drive in those runs from the 4th spot. I like the Nimmo, Lindor, McNeil and Alonso top 4. I wouldn't change that.
      Slide him in at 5 or 6 and I will be fully onboard.

    The need for a "power" bat in this lineup is overstated.
    That's not to say that the lineup can't be improved or that we shouldn't if it's feasible, only to point out that the type of player who would represent any type of improvement over what we already have would have to be elite caliber thus extremely rare and expensive.
    Last thing we need is another .255/30hr high strike out sinkhole sitting in the middle of this lineup.
    We just let that guy walk and seem to be better for it.

    The Mets need more pop. I wonder what the price for JD Martinez would be. He would be a perfect fit and I wonder if his price would be modest given his age and contract. Hell maybe Eovaldi too? This is admittedly all contingent on the Red Sox continuing to struggle and becoming sellers.

    Don't wish for more "punch" in the lineup. They've won playing small ball, which is how the game was designed. Ninety feet at a time. Don't get me wrong; I'll take the home runs. But this team has a history of NOT producing runs with RISP. Now they are, and I love it. As my dad used to tell his Little Leaguers, swing for the singles and the home runs will come. How many HRs were hit during the 7-run 9th in Philadelphia? One? For two runs? And everything else was base hits. Go figure. Small ball works.

      Completely agree. They said themselves that Alonso is really the only power threat on this team right now, but still they’ve managed the most wins in mlb so far. The recipe has worked so why try to change it?

    Biggest threat are always going to be themselves. Pressure won't come from the Braves, or shouldn't if the Mets play at a 100 win pace. Certainly won't be from the Nats, not for several years. Not Phillies either, their front office have a collective IQ of a coconut (UNGA BUNGA OFFENSE ONLY)
