Hi, there. Thanks for sharing. I'm eager for more of the story to be told when my book releases. Thankfully, there are a lot of qualified experts beginning to work on solutions, but it will take all of us. To note: this affects both folks inside the industry/digital media landscape as well as everyone at-home watching. Let's create a safer and better world for all of us. xx

A good example that I have seen the past years is this RUclips channel called “Ryan’s World.” My younger brothers used to watch this channel and I know these kids think it’s cool especially Ryan gets to play all these different toys to review. But in reality his parents that are seen in the videos with Ryan are really marketing themselves to get sponsorships and money to review and play with toys. I honestly don’t know if Ryan even goes to school or get education because the parents are really using him to work to make content online. I never understand why parents force their kids online when there is no privacy and there danger on social media. I’m sure this poor kid probably wish he had a normal life without being influenced online growing up.

My mom is over 60 years old and has been weirdly obsessed with watching family channels for YEARS. Almost every time I visit she’s trying to tell me about these random families she watches as if she knows them. Then she gets all weird and defensive when I tell her those kids deserve privacy and a life of growing up without strangers becoming attached to them. It’s so weird. I think it’s bc she’s old and lonely and reminds her of a life having young kids. I just think it’s bizarre.

It sounds like she’s lonely if anything that’s very sad. Maybe reliving her happiest times 😢. Not weird but it’s psychologically an issue. But no more worse people watching anyone’s lives. Why do any of us do it? Culture - we are the problem and so is the culture of saying kids are adults and can mutliate themselves now. Everything is messed up. Leave kids alone in general. Let kids be kids. Simple. Leave sexuality out of it and leave them off camera except for home videos.

This is the reason I stopped watching family vlogs long time ago. Some of those kids have been exploited since they were in their mother’s womb. Those kids seem unbothered in front of the camera because that's all they know. The parents used them to make money. They quit their jobs and made their kids to work. If the kids refused to do that, the parents would threaten them by saying they couldn't have toys, or no TVs, or (the extreme one) the family would not have money so they would be poor. Those parents made their kids feel guilty if they refused to be on the camera. Parents who exploit their kids on social media are doing child labor. The government should make a new law for this. Kudos to Illinois for doing it. I hope other states will do the same.

Have ever any "family content creators" ended up being decent people at least?
Because if i think about the ones i know... The answer is no.
Even if we part from the "no one who exploits their kids are decent people"

It's so weird when parents made their underage children social media accounts. Why? What's your Motive behind it? You're okay with strangers follow your underage children?. I don't remember which acc, but there's a lot of creepy comments about their daughter but parents don't do anything about it and keep uploading their daughter. Mind you, the daughter is toddler.
Do your job as parents, please

The way i see it, if the content doesnt work without the clips of the kids, then the kids need to be compensated. And if the content works without the kids being in clips then... leave it out. Not worth them being embarrased by it when they go to school.

I highly doubt that kid knew about hat comedian, let alone scrolling through social media to chime in on his opinion.
The kid would probably be playing outside and with friends than being focused on making videos

what's also interesting about this whole thing is how men/fathers don't get called out for doing it as much as women do- the hate women get for including their children in content versus when men do it is wild. (not defending it at all, kids shouldnt be on set or social media, just interesting to see the misogyny there)

Not enough people are talking about how Matt Rife was that bothered by a child that he actually responded AND used a sexist joke to demean another content creator. “Comedians” are so soft these days

    • @amberrose3073

Because most people understand that he is just that a comedian who made a bad joke and understand the blame should lie in the mother who tried to use her child to start beef with a comedian who’s kind of known for inappropriate jokes. Put the blame where it’s deserved
