The original base game felt more tangible, since you spent more time in a normal (albeit abandoned) house. This one has far too much time spent tripping out in spooky space, to the point where you become numb to it.
There's another game called Observer from the same developer that I recommend checking out. It's cyberpunk themed with similar gameplay. You could play that if you like.
I like to imagine Happy Cat disappeared into dust with the rats and did not get burned alive. Also - Soma for spookums? Cool underwater robot horror that makes you think. Franbow and Oxenfree are neat if you like Point & Click style games.
I think it's interesting that the game (both main and Inheritance) hint that the wife was also becoming abusive as well, avoiding the daughter, hating her as a symbol of whats wrong in her life, and in that one drawing how when the dad turned into a monster in the drawing the mother did to.

I think it's supposed to be to emphasize the feeling of being "small" like a child, things at the top of the screen look taller unless you're looking directly at them. It's a cheap way of creating the desired effect. I don't like it either.
Well guess what? My suggestion of trying Fairy Fencer, Halcyon6, Hand of Fate, Kings Bounty, Renowned Explorers or Sentinels of Multiverse still stands (although now that i think about it, you will both have to get Gauntlet to play it together, so scratch that)
I just wish they would give at least half a fuck about the story because it's really interesting. I guess they went in with an 'oooh jumpscares' mentality and just waltz through everything to get to the spoopy bits which is a shame. That's fine for a fnaf/slender tier shit but for a game with a strong narrative like this is kind of disappointing.

You guys should check out Albino Lullaby, it's really weird and doesn't rely on jumpscares. I think it would be perfect for you guys
