ℹ️ About the Episode:
In this episode, the boys are left alone and Caleb is concerned for his survival. Marc suggests fasting, but it's not well received! Thankfully, Trish provisioned us, and her spice Blends came in clutch! When we visited Mount Rushmore during Season 1, we skipped Devils Tower. It's impossible to make time for everything, and Devils Tower seemed kinda predictable. Fast forward many years later (with a focus on National Parks and Monuments) and it turns out that Devils Tower is a bit of a sleeper park. Perhaps we were there at the perfect time of year or our expectations were lower than normal, but we loved it! In the shoulder season, we were able to get a first-come site at Belle Fourche River Campground, which is directly below the monument. If you have a big rig or want full hookups, there is a KOA directly outside the park entrance. Visiting Devils Tower can easily be done in a day, even paired with Mount Rushmore-but if you can stay one night, it will add to the experience.

The Prairie Dog commentary was hilarious!!!
OK. I just gotta say it…has ANYONE noticed this funny little tidbit?
Your pet-names for Trish (on the phone) change all the time and it cracks me up! “Jet Set Babe” 🤣
Unexpectedly meeting Marc and Caleb was one of the highlights of my 2022 "shoulder season" trip to the BlackHills, Mt. Rushmore, and Devil's Tower. I'm glad the weather cleared for your hike around Devil's Tower. In the brief time I met him, I was most impressed with the respectful young man that Caleb has become. Trish and Marc, you've done an excellent job in raising your three children; and I'm sure you're proud of them all, as you should! I look forward to seeing your future adventures and also learning new RVing tips from Marc.
"Joe from NM"
Good to hear from you and great meeting you. Thanks for your support too! And the tip for hiking from the campground and seeing the Prairie Dogs. This episode was brought to KYD through you! See you down the road.
You lucky duck !!!!
So fun!
Devils Tower is such a cool location. Seeing the tower while watching Close Encounters is sooo neat.
OMG that prairie dog narration was so funny! I’m still laughing😂. And I Loved Caleb giving the little guys a heads up that rent was due.😂😂
Viento State Park near Hood River, Oregon! Just off the Columbia River. And I-84. There are railroad tracks on both sides of the river, Union Pacific on the Oregon side goes right next to the RV/Trailer camping area, and Burlington Northern hugs the riverbank on the north side in Washington. I love trains and fall back asleep easily, but the wife doesn't. Camped there once and there was a guy who got up around 1 am and used just about every curse word there is as he threw all his gear into his rig and then left. It's amazing when you're close enough that the vibration from the trains going by shakes your rig.
It's so cool that you were able to get Bane from Batman to do the voice over for the prairie dog segment!
Marc 😂 Nailed the David Attenborough impression! Had us dying over here
As much as you missed Trish, come on that had to be some great father - son time! I love the Prairie Dog commentary that you did, and Kaleb trying to collect rent from them.
Such an episode!
The scenery was amazing, and the voice-over by the absent Trish, and Sir David Attenborough, was a nice touch.
The time-lapse at the end was pretty magical, too.
Keep On Truckin’
Particularly impressed by your commitment to the prairie dog voice over. As always, great show.
I never comment on RUclips, but that prairie dog voice over was so amazing I had to pull out my phone and show my appreciation! Great video, as always. Thank you! 🙏🏻😊
GREAT video, as always! I absolutely fell in love with that area of SD last year. I had planned to pass through in a couple of days, and ended up staying over a month. It was just so moving. Safe travels, friends!
The "barking" of the prairie dogs sound just like my dog's squeaky toys........that part of the video perked up all of my dogs ears, complete with the head tilts!
The prairie dog voice over is hilarious!! Happy Sunday KYD family!! Great job Marc!
I’m telling you, the humor in this family is second to none ! My cheeks hurt by the end because of my constant grin and that’s with every single video 🥰
Sorry Trish missed the wedding 😏
Ranchers hate those prairie dogs, those holes are deadly to horses and cattle who step in them and get injured. My girls had a coach that went from Minnesota to Montana to spend the summer killing them, my girls took turns being their nanny, in an RV with their 4 children 😳
Blessings
I took my high school art club up to Yellowstone, Devil's Tower and Rushmore last May '23 and traveled that exact route from Bozeman. Super gorgeous scenery! We still talk in class about how cool Devil's Tower was! It's nice seeing your take on it!
The prairie dog commentary may have made this my favorite video. I’m dying 😂
Enjoyed the prairie dog commentary 🤣 And the Brady Bunch reference, “pork chops and apple sauce.” Didn’t know anyone else still said that 😅👏
Yes, I think it was Peter.
@@thesimmons186 Exactly! That’s how we remember it too! 🤣
When it's time to chAnge! 🎶
@@KeepYourDaydream You’ve got to reArrange 🎤👍🤣😂
Peter Brady would be proud Marc. clapped 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 and laughed 😂😂😂 while saying yesss … because I said “and applesauce” right after Tricia said pork chops 😆😆 … thought it was going to be a nostalgic moment missed.
Great Video ! Boy Jet Set Babe leaves you to cook for yourselves for a few days and you both end up sniffing trees ! Hurry back Tricia !
Best comment award goes to.... B G463🏆
I think the fasting was getting to Marc 🤣
You drove right by our Belle Fourche campsite, only problem is we were there in September 2021. You are following our path in reverse from that trip. Nice to be reminded of the great time we had. Devil’s Tower is one place that has a unique feeling when you are there. One of my favorite stops!
Prairie dog clip was classic. Your hired😂
As soon as you all can, set aside a night to re-watch/watch 'Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind' (1977) in which the Devil's Tower has a key role (and you'll never forget those five notes)! Fantastic vid showing the Tower at its best! Thanks SO much for it! Hope Miss Trish got majorly comped for having to spend so much time at the airport!
Oh I have a connection to that movie. My sisters husbands mother (God bless her soul) made a lot of the miniatures for that green screen. 😀
@@robynidyllwild6755 That's amazing she did that! Too bad that is becoming a lost art for big productions!
Much like the Giant's Causeway in Ireland, it almost looks as though people instead of nature had built it! Glad that Marc, Caleb and Charlie got to see it up close!
Another amazing video and the prairie dogs was hilarious with Caleb trying to collect rent. I hope Trish made it to Phoenix eventually and I hope she got comp for sll her troubles. Ya'll be safe
We just loved the bozeman airport! So easy and cozy. Sorry her first flight was cancelled.
46 years ago a buddy and I went on a cross country motorcycle trip. We had Honda 250's; 4-cycle glorified dirt bikes. Went to Rushmore, skipped Devils Tower. I corrected that mistake this year in my cream colored Mercedes with a trunk full of money (a Sprinter with a really expensive solar/battery system under the fixed bed).
Excellent Alan Watts-esque delivery on the prairie dog.
Started my journey. Watching this at the first campground site. Thx again KYD!
This is cool. When you dropped Trish off at the airport there was a Core Mark truck in the background. I drive for them in Iowa.
Yes. we stayed at Bozeman Hot Springs! One of our favorite places, not so much because of the campground but the hot springs were awesome! The Black Hills is the place I love to go most. We go almost every year.
We loved the prairie dog segment! We've made many mistakes stamping our passport book too! 😂
Me too
That hike around Devil's Tower is a spiritual experience. A special place for sure.
I loved seeing you Trish, Mark, Caleb, & Charlie! Enjoyed this entire video! Loved seeing the Prairie Dogs, hearing about them. Devil's Tower was neat. I liked hearing about it too. The scenery was pretty. The campgrounds looked nice you've stayed at. I hope you all have a good week.
The trees you were smelling are Ponderosa Pines. Some people think they smell like Vanilla and some people say Butterscotch 😊
Yes, I was going to mention that too about the Ponderosa pines.
Love Devil’s Tower. The prayer cloths blowing in the wind is really special feeling.
Thanks for bringing us along!
You are absolutely right! The aroma of the Ponderosa Pines they come in four flavors: Butterscotch (you're dead on with referring to the butterscotch candy's) and Vanilla are the most common, but also rarest are Chocolate and Strawberry (reference the old Nestle's Strawberry Quik aroma). I'm not kidding :-) I am so glad you stopped and smelled the Ponderosa's!
We live about 40 min from Custer where Buffalo Ridge is. Always fun to see home country on these videos. Have fun.
Definitely need to have family movie night for Close Encounters of the Third Kind. We think the trees have the scent of Vanilla, too. They have a much stronger scent when the sun is shining on them. Safe travels.
We stayed at Devils Tower campground a few years ago. There were a large contingent of Native Americans, having a week long meeting there. At night with the tower lit up, a sky full of stars, and beating drums in the background this was an evening I will always remember.
❤ the Mark David Attenborough piece!
The prairie dog segment/commentary was hilarious!! 😂 It has me cracking up!!
Like watching Mutual of Omaha and the Brady Bunch, great commentary, who knew Prairie Dogs were so funny! Sorry Trich missed the wedding, getting stuck at an airport is the pits!
I absolutely love your prairie dog portion of this video!! Thank you so much fun! I enjoy you all you make my day
The son, "you never say that to mom."
And even more I just realized how much I love you vids!
Such beautiful scenery
I absolutely loved mine and Pop’s trip out west and our trip to Devils Tower and Mt Rushmore. Love love loved the prairie dogs! Disappointed to not know about smelling the trees! Next time! Stay safe
Love Devils Tower hike and your prairie dog adventure was great. Mary💕Fred
Bravo. Love how your style has evolved. Unique. Positive. Well done.
Thank you!
Marc I have to say, you are a master. Your voiceover was impeccable lol. Deana
I really miss it when Trish isn't in the video. Glad to hear when she narrates! (and can't wait till she's back) We went to Devil's Tower on the 4th of July and it was crazy busy, so I guess it matters when you go. Thanks for the great video!
From what I saw the boys did great and Charlie looks happy. All is good
Enjoy!
always funny to see the small panic when Trisha is traveling lol, she's spoiled you all with her amazing cooking! sorry for the travel nightmare as well Trisha, thanks for another amazing episode KYD!
Haha that impression of David Attenborough :D
Loved the bit on the prairie dogs.
Real exercise in Trish Appreciation.
Caleb is afraid you won't feed him again, so he is fending for himself while you are doing the pork chops. Haha.
So nice to see father and son time spent together adventuring. And with Charlie the Wonder Dog of the world love Charlie he's awesome
Prairie dogs are so cute!. Thanks for the video! I loved the music on the video❤
Marc’s commentary (prairie dog) made me laugh out loud. Literally! 😂
My husband is Native American and sat in the bushes 😂 and played the drum for hours. When he looked up he had a large group of onlookers enjoying the concert he was giving. I just giggled….love Devils Tower ❤️
hahaha. I love the commentary on the animals! That was awesome!
Omg!!! Was that you talking when doing that impression I loved it you could do story reading for kids so well love it 😀 ❤
Lol. Yes, "Marc Attenborough" Reviews say, "Cringingly funny"
Great bonding time!! Does Caleb keep his YT pg up to date? We need a Caleb's top show. You guys have covered a lot. Wonder what Caleb's top picks would be from a kids perspective!
He vlog'd the bike ride for school credit. Hopefully that gets him back into it.
Trish you got me at the start of this video with your refrigerator overview! Your boys cannot survive without you never fear. I have to listen to the same type of review from my wife and then get scolded when she returns because the food has spoil in the same refrigerator. Your boys love you.
I was there this summer when everywhere was 15 degrees hotter than "normal" so didn't hike. I loved the entire area around Devil's Tower and Sundance, WY. Gorgeous country!
I had to rewind to see what Trish's name was for this episode. So funny how you guys do that. I love your videos. I've been to Devils Tower, Needles, and Mt. Rushmore but not the way you guys do it! Great video.
Great video. Trish’s missing the wedding. Too bad.
Devils tower is my back yard, love to see you guys here. Loved the prairie dog commentary
My family was guilty of sniffing trees at Bryce over the summer, lol.
I’m going to start calling you “Mark Attenborough”! That was fantastic! Caleb: Did he ever pay his rent?!
That was a clever idea for them to come up with the Passport books, they can make a little bit on the books, and it inspirers people visit more of the parks.
I had left the Buffalo RIdge Camp Resort one day before you got there. The highlights of my weekend was the Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park on Friday the 30th, and I hiked up to the face of the Crazy Horse Memorial on Sunday the 2nd for the Fall Volksmarch.
The prairie dog segment. Dear Lord that was great
Awesome *Tower exploring adventure, father / son duo‼️ What evolution expressed from ground up .... This video was fun to watch even though Trish not there, but nice small pieces of narrative. Keep the paths going guys with open road a rolling ..... 🛣️🚌⛰️🏞️🌲🌳🌄
When we were at Devils Tower,we had a rat pack puppet we picked up in Moab. We placed him on the ground near the prairie dogs, they were not pleased with the visit to say the least.
We called them Prairie Puppies. We took that ferry in the other direction when we drove 4000 miles to go 2000 miles. Only travelers and RVers would understand. It was at night and on though water. Memorable!
I have heard of tree huggers, but tree sniffers is a new one.
I loved your Prairie dog commentary. Lovely accent! Ha!
Mount rushmore at night is really cool.. there are turnouts along the road on the side of Mount Rushmore and you can the side of Washington's face. hope you had a great drive!!
😂😂😂😂
The English Aussie Santa Grandpa accent during the Prairie Dog narration had me dying 😂😂😂
Jose
Good explanation of how it sounds!
The issue with the train and highway is funny. I have family in Thompson Falls out by the Clark Fork River. A train runs through that community too. Very loud. Lots of trains still moving freight around in Montana.
If there wasn't an intersection, there would be no reason to honk and thus, no issue! One night, 4 trains when through. 😳 Wide. Awake!
Omg, the section on prairie dogs. lol
The story on the Prairie Dogs was priceless 🤣 Poor Charlie looked so sad when Mom left 😢 Safe Travels guy's ❤🤍💙
Charlie kinda always like Sarah Mclachlan music should be playing in the background 😂
Yes , stay at the hot springs camp ground . We were there in July. It was a great place.
Ok. I wasn’t ready for this episode to end. Enjoyed
So sorry about Tricia’s flights and the whole weather situation. That is flying, hurry up and wait and be super flexible. And Denver, never plan to fly out of Denver in the winter. Way too dangerous due to weather. The prairie dogs are fun. They sound more like a mouse! Your narration was fabulous. Ha, fasting is good.
We clearly did not get the experience, we stopped for a couple of hours but now realize we need to slow down our travel and enjoy the sights. Great dad & son video and real live air travel nightmare in 2022.
That happens to us too. Sometimes, we're just not in the mood to slow down.
I love your accent! But tg I read in the intro that you are Marc Attenborough! Love Devils Tower and every time I go I look for the aliens or at least mashed potatoes!
If you're ever up in Washington state you need to go to Central Washington and go to the Columbia National Wildlife Preserve. They have a rock formation that is similar to Devil's Tower it's not nearly as tall but it's still pretty impressive with the hexagonal Basalt magma rock formation that was exposed by erosion of the Columbia Basin
we stayed in the NPS Campground at Devils Tower. Quiet and got to see the full moon come up over the tower.
The best campground at Devil’s Tower is the KOA right at the base of it. You can watch Close Encounters movie outside while sitting there looking right at the tower. Stayed there last year on a trip out to WY/SD. Very cool experience.
Your like Willie Wonka going around smelling the trees. Great video
Bozeman fairgrounds is a great camp spot. Just. Few blocks off the main historic area. Great rates, and the farmers market on the weekend is incredible. Love Bozeman.
I'll check that out too!
I live Devil's Tower. Walked the trail around it. Easy hike.
Felt like I was watching National Geographic with the prairie dogs lol
Hahaha ... another great video from my favorite RUclipsrs. Loved the Nature Documentary on the prairie dogs.
😁😁😁 loved the prairie dog narration.
I always enjoy your videos always super nice. Thanks for the time you put into your videos.
