    * note: as it appears, there are some species of Phalaenopsis (not Vanda) which seem to produce keikis from roots, the stuartiana and schilleriana. There are a few claims on the internet, never seen it myself, but it may be possible! www.orchidboard.com/community/species/39308-phal-scilleriana-root-keiki.html thanks to my viewer Paul Daniel for pointing out ☺️

      As someone from the Philippines, I do confirm that they grow new plants/keikis from roots, especially if they're mounted 🤗 and they're also prone to clumping here!

    I cant explain how excited i am. I remember last time u tried this was eagerly waiting to get updates as i was following some thing like that at that point of time.But i found my way. And i have been growing them in moss in small plastic baskets. And spray the roots every day 1ce until they are nicely wet i tried semi hydro and water culture. Didnt work .and i live in the tropics. Best of luck with this project . And again i am gonna wait like a child waits for cartoon show for the update of this project.🤩

    You make it look so easy Dani. Vanda orchids are hard for me to grow for some reason. I kept it bare root, maybe that was the problem. You have inspired me to try another one.....potted this time. Thanks.

    Hi Dani, so happy you chose the Vanda seedlings to highlight. I purchased one last April from a nursery on Amazon. She was a part of 4 other species and they were all seedlings. Almost a year later she is thriving. She has grown three new fans and her root system is beautiful. So I'm on the five year journey with you! 🌺🌸🌷💮🕊🐦

    Just in the nick of time. My vanda seedling is severely dehydrated but I have 2 healthy roots with growing tips and two green leaves. The other 3 have dried up and fallen off. I converted it from a hanging basket to spaghnum moss and a plastic cup. So informative. Thanks, Dani.

    Danny! I tried this when you did the last time, and I have kept up with the ones that survived. I have about 5 left of the 12 or 13 LOL....What I ended up realizing is that they need WAY more water than a normal vanda that is bare rooted. I ended going to the leca/semi hydro route in the end which is proving to be perfect. But the catch is that I bought tiny 3inch slotted clear pots that I put upside down in a wide glass jar. I guess I would call it the "air cone" to create more space inside of the pot. The vanda seedling will sit on top of the air cone and then leca is put all around it to secure the vanda seedling. I recommend you try this strategy with a few and see if it works for you in your growing environment. I am hoping that because they are growing this way from the seedling, when they are blooming size they will end up flourishing in a pot. Hope it goes well! :-D

    I read Phalaenopsis stuartiana can produce keikis from the roots. But it should be alive and attached from the plant though. I saw some posts on facebook. I read that that's the only phal species that can do that.

    What a wonderful project for the New Year. It will be very interesting to see how these Vandas develop. In fact, I would like it if you would do more videos on Vandas. I have a very large collection and would like to know things like - at what point should I remove a keiki ? (Or can I leave it to grow into a massive Vanda with the mother plant?) More precise information on the different types of vandas would be appreciated as well. And, I like your idea of ordering a flask and working with the plants inside. This has always interested me, but I don't want multiple plants of the same variety. Lastly, thanks, as always for such Great Videos!

    I work for a small orchid nursery... They deal mostly seedlings. As a part of merit, I can get seedlings from them (most of them are free)! So I have a LOT of seedlings (vandas, dendrobiums. Blc... etc)! We pot them in sphagnum moss only. And lots of them come as plugs, not flask. They are more established and easier to deal with. Yours might be plugs. And also yours look very end of seedling stage. Who knows? It might become blooming size in 2 years and not 5 years...

    • @orchidsbythelake
      @orchidsbythelake 4 года назад

      Hugo Hernandez water when it’s dry. As simple as that. And you need good air circulation. My place has fan on 24/7. When you pot them in sphagnum moss, make sure to make it as fluffy and stable as possible. You don’t want it to stay constantly moist especially vandas and Dendrobiums.... their root may rot. (Especially winter time) but when they are dry, don’t let it dry out too long.

    Hi!
    I really like your videos😁! I just watched your "orchids in bloom - december" video. I think the purple noID Cattleya might be a purple variety/veeery close relative of Cattleya guatemalensis which is a natural hybrid between Guarianthe aurantiaca and Cattleya skinneri for itself🤔.
    I also have one question for the expert: Is it normal for Cattleya roots to stop growing after repotting😶😶? I repotted the plant because all new roots grew straight outside the small original pot I purchased it in. It has been three weeks since then and all the root tips are still green, but haven't done anything... It gets 24°C at daytime and 16 to 17°C at night with a relative humidity of ~50%. I hope you can give an advise!
