Great dive footage and great practical advice on diving through shipwrecks. I didn't realize how much can go wrong if you don't know what you're doing. But when you speak of "buoyancy dialed in" does that mean not too much air in the lungs? And if that's the case, then how are you going to make the swim-through to begin with??? 😕

Hi! So when I said bouyancy dialed in I meant more your weights on your belt than your in breath. Correct weighting changes all the time depending on your wetsuit and what depth you are diving. After that though you want to be positively buoyant from the last third of your dive on the way up. I always say the deeper you go the less weight you need as you will become more negatively buoyant as you descent deeper and your lungs compress(wetsuit will also compress) You should always be comfortably able to exhale on the surface and not sink. For entering any confined area underwater you would want to have full lungs. For some of the more shallow swim throughs as I said the wheel house in this ship- what I suggest is to not slow down inside if you are quite buoyant. Often times then you will float up and get a bit “stuck” on the roof. Also don’t top swimming until your fins are all the way clear- as you could float up and scratch your head/shoulder/calf as you exit the wreck! I see this happen allot. Hope that helps and answers your question! 🙏

Side note! If you do float up or have an issue where you need to touch the wreck- ideally don’t touch it at all- but if you do have to and you don’t have gloves on then avoid putting your whole hand down anywhere. Minimize points of contact and instead try to use one or two fingers. Incase you touch fire coral atleast it would be two fingers and not a whole hand. Ofcourse you avoid this as much as possible but if you do get a bit stuck going through a doorway etc it may be necessary to use your hand to help you get through- so avoid large areas of contact as much as possible! Or wear gloves. And always have a buddy spot you! Super important. Never swim through a wreck you don’t know or you don’t know for sure the exact point. Go with a guide aka me who can show you the route 😎

@@tridentfreediversbarbados Thank you very much Hanna for all the information. The more I learn about the science and subtleties of freediving the more I want to take the plunge, instead of just watching your videos (as fun as that is!) 😃
