Sebene is a term used in Congolese Rumba music to describe the instrumental section of a song where the singing ends and the band creates an energetic section to encourage the audience to dance. The word sebene comes from "seven," which refers to the dominant 7th chords of English-speaking Ghanaian palm-wine players. During a seben, the drummer signals changes, guiding guitarists to shift parts in sync with the lead player. The typical Congolese progression for sebens is I-IV-V-IV
