I never knew that either. It’s crazy how your artistic style comes through in etch a sketches too! Like, I figured that it would be more blocky and less detailed but as usual, Peter finds a way to take something ordinary and make it extraordinary.
I'm sorry, Peter, but I refuse to believe there aren't many, many small people in there working hard responding to your every twist and turn of the knobs to make your drawing become reality. Let's hear it for all the hard working little folks!
There's something about the impermenance of the Etch-a-Sketch that makes it almost more special and valuable to use it to create something that will ultimately be shaken away.
How did I not find this video until now? Thanks for not using insane power tools to cut it open in order to figure out how it works. This makes my heart happy.
This has given me an idea, moreover a challenge for you, peter. i think you should try Rubik cube art. get a white Rubik cube and doodle on each side, but over time, turn the sides to where you can continue drawing something completely new until each side of the cube is done.
My inner mechanic scraped about an inch square clear... big enough to see the inner workings and the cone-shaped scraper and little rods attached to this magical thing, and the silver powder that eventually leaked out from around the knobs- possibly aluminum powder or hopefully not mercury...
Peter, I wonder if a tiny metal ball inside instead of the gears and dials and using a magnet on the end of a stylus would work the same but with more freedom. I wish you a happy holiday. I'm very sick these days but I'll be better. Happy New Year 2018. Hugs!
I had honestly never thought about what might be in an etch-a-sketch. Never had one as a kid. I've only had the pleasure of using one like 2 or 3 times.
I always thought they used magnetism too, this is much simpler and the clue was in the name all along I guess. Always amazes me to see Etch-a-Sketch art which is actually good.
Wait, it’s scraping metal away from the screen??? I always thought it was some sort of magnet thing as well? Usually I’m the one to point these kinds of things out but not this time I guess... I actually feel kind of dumb now honestly
Always wanted one but had to make do with its lowly cousin, Magnadoodle, that I got from a school jumble sale... It didn't last long because I pulled it apart to see how it worked🤓
So glad it finally happened. I was almost gonna send u one myself!! I would ask for you to try this every twitch live stream (which I’ve missed tons of bc of my new job) BUT this is as good if not better by far than I could have ever imagined and I saved myself the price of an etch a sketch to see it happen. - Karina rose

Yeah! Awesome one, love how it starts off in my head as tiny circuits and becomes a vast industrial city.
Debbie Ebbiebobebbie damn you’re fast

Henry Ambrose Ya. If you really want to keep the art, you either have to give up or leave it on a shelf and never touch it again.
It looks like a futuristic city
I like drawing futuristic cities, I need to draw more of them :)
Now THIS.. this was EXTRA EXTRA EXTRA impressive
How did I not find this video until now? Thanks for not using insane power tools to cut it open in order to figure out how it works. This makes my heart happy.
the narrative to this video is quite good
ShrubCast I agree. But then again, the narratives to most of his videos are pretty good lol

The stutter at 2:31 made me lol classic
One could make a knock off of Etch-a-sketch and call it Shake-n-Scrape.
Ayy I've been waiting for you to try this!
someone was nice enough to send this to me! I haven't used one of these since I was a little kid :3
Arcadian. Same
I see a highly Advanced Metropolis with a floating island above the city. It's littered with neon lights.
I asked if you knew why a Etch a Sketch works, and it seems you do. Like I said, Peter is one smart cookie :)
The etch-a-sketch has a deep history
Literally 16 hours ago I was like "what if peter drew on an etchasketch"
Love the Milton Ericksonian visual word etchings. Brilliant!
My inner mechanic scraped about an inch square clear... big enough to see the inner workings and the cone-shaped scraper and little rods attached to this magical thing, and the silver powder that eventually leaked out from around the knobs- possibly aluminum powder or hopefully not mercury...
That's very cool. I had an Etch A Sketch, when I was little, I don't know what happened to it.
Your sketch is very cool.
Your voice is so calm and relaxing
Peter, I wonder if a tiny metal ball inside instead of the gears and dials and using a magnet on the end of a stylus would work the same but with more freedom. I wish you a happy holiday. I'm very sick these days but I'll be better. Happy New Year 2018. Hugs!
I had no idea an Etch A Sketch was so deep.
i recently got a bunch of etch-a-sketch videos in my recommended videos. peter, did you also get etch-a-sketch videos in your recommended videos?
I put duct tape over that part of my screen
Peter Draws prove it ;) ...( Instagram)
Oh, I hated to see you shake it! What an awesome drawing-type-thingy. Your talent astounds.
I had honestly never thought about what might be in an etch-a-sketch. Never had one as a kid. I've only had the pleasure of using one like 2 or 3 times.
Just when I start to feel better about my doodling, I watch you do this, and I feel totally inadequate.
Nostalgia.
My heart sunk when you shook the Etch-A-Sketch
All those tiny people working inside of each drawing device that you have ever used must think it an honor to have worked with you.
Everyone must accept the tiny people doing their hard work to allow this amazing art happen
I always thought they used magnetism too, this is much simpler and the clue was in the name all along I guess. Always amazes me to see Etch-a-Sketch art which is actually good.
Who are the people who dislike I don't even understand Peters the greatest how can you dislike him
Very good art short film!
Oh my, I had one of these when I was a kid and it was an achievement even to draw a square with it!😀
I AM 20 GODDAMN YEARS OLD AND JUST NOW FIGURED OUT HOW ETCH A SKETCHES WORK. I THOUGHT THE SAME DANG THING PETER. JESUS.
Well, you taught me something today, Peter. Up until this point, that's how I thought Etch-a-Sketches worked. Thanks. haha
i thought the same thing i thought that the screen was magnetic and there was a tube feeding the magnet shavings up to show what you are making
"It was widely accepted that there was some sort of light-hearted fairy magic at work" 😄
anyone else shed a tear when he shook it 😢😂
U took etch a sketch to a new level 😎
Good job, Peter.
What does it smell like?
All I want for Christmas is your artttttttt
Thank you I was trying to figure out the name of this for years which I had played with once during my childhood.
Although your show great talent - your monologue makes your video worth watching.
Lol I thought the same thing about how it worked. Btw, while we're on the subject of old toys, I think it'd be neat to make a video with blow pens!
It didn't last long because I pulled it apart to see how it worked🤓
if you turn it upside down and shake it it only takes a few shakes
So glad it finally happened. I was almost gonna send u one myself!! I would ask for you to try this every twitch live stream (which I’ve missed tons of bc of my new job) BUT this is as good if not better by far than I could have ever imagined and I saved myself the price of an etch a sketch to see it happen. - Karina rose
